@mrsqonk I reckon this is more personal to waters than any other album hes done. He puts so much feeling and nuance into each song, its his baby. I know Gilmour got pissed off with so many references to the iron lady. But waters was havin it full on, its probably what he couldn't explore with the wall. "Paranoid Eyes... Hide! Hide! Hide!" This "Great Humanitarian and Musical Genius" is now touring the World with "The Wall" to "TRY" and "Wake-UP!" the Masses into ALL the Deceitful and Hideously Oppressive Walls being Stealthily built all over the World Today. Read: wake-upbeforeitstoolate(dot)com and and understand, that if the World does not come together as One Voice and now Publicly Expose the Parasites that are Stealthily destroying the World, Walter's work will have all been in vain!
@fabio78ist1 how dare you put downn a band i have grown with for 30 yrs ...you fuckwit die and as for johnwaynegacy he is just a cunt with no feelings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While I do appreciate (and hold in high esteem) "The Final Cut" album, I find this clip an utter rubbish. It should be named "Overview of Transitions Available In Power Point, Interspersed With Some Battle Scenes", or anything like that.
Nothing makes sense, or tells any "story" here. Waters in his lyrics tried to tell us something, tried to teach us his, even if bit "skewed" or "fixed", outlook on life and fate - but what we can see here is just a random collection of "transitions"

brilliant album ,watched this track on video jukebox when i was 23 in 1983 and it stuck in my head that"lost in the haze of alcoholic middle age"my mate has the brown and mild eyes but not the paranoid ones ,great track thanks for well put together upload
"Going over the road for a jar" means going out a having a drink. It really goes back to the time when almost every street in the UK had a pub and it was easy and quite usual to go and have a pint of beer (or two) after a day's work. The town I grew up in had a population of 50,000 and had about 55 pubs so getting a drink was no problem. "Putting on a brave face" in this context is hiding the worries and anxieties (paranoid eyes) and showing everybody that all is well, when in fact it isn't.
IMPORTANT: I need to know the meaning of: "You put on your brave face and slip over the road for a jar". I'm going to do a school thesis about this theme and I'll bring this song, but I'm not sure of what that line means. SO, PLEASE, HELP ME YOU GENTLE GUYS! :)
I truely love this song. I cant believe this didn't make the cut on The Wall. This is still a great album but not even close 2 The Wall. Plus it just has that Wall feel. Maybe its just me but from a true Floyd fan this should have been on The Wal!
@teech16 thousands of years ago primitive mistaken people invented countries, selfishness and power, and now mass-men (sheep, if you want) in the governments are just like the mass-men they sell on tv, and, like mass-men, they have no point whatsoever
I am looking for a film I saw it was exactly like this where a guy on a couch was watching tv and the tv would rock back and fourth like it was on water and this eerie low tones played as the camera perspective slowly zoomed into the tv. It was a lot like 'the wall' and 'the final cut'. I saw it on PBS here in minnesota year ago and have never been able ot track it down. Any one know?
One of my favorite Floyd tracks. It still always makes me have to sit and listen when it's on. Thanks for posting (AND including a shot of the folks in pink triangles who went to their deaths).
Its about a veteran with PTSD, unable to cope , or let his feelings out. One of the many stories in the album. Going on with life after the war, unable to go back to business as usual. Knowing something is wrong, but not knowing what it is, and being afraid of talking about it, cause, you see. Everyone else seems ok. Just hide, pretend, and if no one knows anything is wrong and eating you, its ok.
Actually my favourite song off the album. I realized this when I was going through a rough patch in my life after high school and I was drinking a lot-- I was drinking alone to this song and singing along to it. Roger is such an amazing song writer. During his time with Pink Floyd and after
@BERNIE6164 this was the last album he made officially with Pink Floyd. It is also the Final Cut (pun intended) for the story that was started way back in Wish You Were Here and Darkside of the Moon and took full bloom in The Wall and had its ending in this album.
Roger was definately a giant. His perceptiveness and insight into the human condition and his ability to express this profoundly are second to none in the history of rock. I think he may have become a bit of a meglomaniac at the end of the original Pink Floyd but you must realize 1} at one point Floyd was nearly "broke" so money was a factor 2} I think Roger got sick of pretending Floyd was a "unit" when in fact he was the creative force behind 90% of the bands work. I think this "chafed" him.
this guy is an absolute genious, followed PK for 4 decades now and Roger should be acknowledgedged along with all the ..... Bahts. Moozarts. Litzs etc.
I bought this album when it first came out and it still affects me the same now as when I first heard it and what have we learned? What have we done? We've had the Falklands, two Iraq conflicts, Afghanistan and wars too numerous to mention. Young men and women lay down their lives for our political masters who don't give a damn and the rich just get richer and poor civilians die in their thousands. What on Earth is the point?
@katoness It was a rhetorical question. I am sick to death having watched the likes of Thatcher, the Bushes, Blair, Saddam and all the others proclaiming their bravery, commitment and divine morality in creating and perpetuating these myths that result in the mass destruction of tens of thousands of people. The saddest thing of all is that all too many people actually believe in them either through misplaced loyalty or personal power or profit. What else is there to say?
@teech16 i sadly would rememember you..this is only the endless mankind history, only a too fast to be possible change could give us a real hope..have we enough tim?e..it seems whe have not....
@teech16 I bought this when it first came out as well. It surprises me that even many Floyd fans have never even Heard og this album. I agree with you completely on your comments. Peace to You. To Me. To All......if we can get that far.........
Always wondered if this song was yet another nod back to Syd Barrett; the "paranoid eyes", the delusions of "fame, fortune and glory", the demented laughing in the bridge...
Really nice job on the video. Great images that wreally bring out the power of this song. Timing was great. Only complaint - too many cartoony transitions. Would have been more powerful with striaght cuts to the next ima
"you believed in their stories of fame, fortune and glory.
now you're lost in a haze of alcohol soft middle age
the pie in the sky turned out to be miles too high.
and you hide, hide, hide,
behind brown and mild eyes. " roger waters - 1983
"we've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars,
but we won't. we're slowly learning that fact.
and we're very, very pissed off." - tyler durden - 1999

Actually my favourite song off the album. I realized this when I was going through a rough patch in my life after high school and I was drinking a lot-- I was drinking alone to this song and singing along to it. Roger is such an amazing song writer. During his time with Pink Floyd and after

BERNIE6164 1 year ago
@BERNIE6164 No, Music From the Body came out in 1971
Spadesandsinners 1 year ago
@BERNIE6164 this was the last album he made officially with Pink Floyd. It is also the Final Cut (pun intended) for the story that was started way back in Wish You Were Here and Darkside of the Moon and took full bloom in The Wall and had its ending in this album.
HermitintheRain 1 year ago
@BERNIE6164 i know he made "the pros and cons of hitchhiking" not sure if that was before or after this

What on Earth is the point?
teech16 1 year ago 51
@teech16 the point is to keep themselves in power, that is the elite, which they are very good at doing. While the masses suffer.

HA HA- Right on- another awakened person!!! kudos
PYSCOPOMP 1 year ago
@katoness It was a rhetorical question. I am sick to death having watched the likes of Thatcher, the Bushes, Blair, Saddam and all the others proclaiming their bravery, commitment and divine morality in creating and perpetuating these myths that result in the mass destruction of tens of thousands of people. The saddest thing of all is that all too many people actually believe in them either through misplaced loyalty or personal power or profit. What else is there to say?
teech16 1 year ago
@teech16 I think you've said it all very well my friend.

@teech16 Yeah this is an album that will be relevant for every generation. It's unfortunate that it has to be that way though. :(
