Lol! mr. Holbert has that camera angle places as such, that it gives the appearance on TO, that he's departing at "jet speed" or something! so odd..... yet we know that bellanca couldn't be doing more than 90 or so, thru the first 100 ft. climb. look at the ground and relative Structures as he's just rotating and climbing. you'd swear he's in a Business Jet by the way everything is "Slipping past". great vids.
Thanks for the cool video… I need to fly out to Catalina and work on my radio station which is in that old hanger… I plan on renting a Piper Warrior… BTW the buffalo burgers are excellent too
Wow, that was a smooth landing. I took this trip with my uncle who piloted the small two seater Cesna back say 25 yrs ago and the runway didn't look like this; I see they paved it...seems like a nice deal. Love the video! Thanks so much for posting it; it's bringing back fond memories.
I thought the runway in Catalina was going to be smooth after it was repaved...it didn't last long did it? lol... I love landing there, good challenge.
i heard a familiar tail # today on socal and then heard a familiar voice. 01B is out of corona ( 01B is out of corona) ya you said cable (my bad). thats wierd, i just now heard you on your way back on 21.3 your videos are a great.. they help me with my communications and since we are out of the same airport its even better. i look forward to your new videos
Great clip, well prepared, and put together. Going there next week after i get my private pilot license, anybody knows how the parking works there, hourly rate, or to park for a day? thanks in advance!!!
Uh... no, if I "love the music," then it can't be a bad thing, right? Logic my friend! Si vous saviez n'importe quoi au sujet de moi, vous sauriez que j'aime la France et la Martinique!
Fantastic video. Question: how do you mount and stabilize the camera in the plane? having a pax holding the camera hasn't worked out nearly so well for me. Thx.
don't know about VIA, but VOR is a nav aid for pilots, it stands for a very high frequency omnidirectional radio range, it basically helps you hold a course, so you can fly from VOR to VOR stations untill you reach your destination.
Thanks for the info. Your videos are great ! I get a kick out of flying out to KAVX on Flightsim which is fun. My understanding is that flying with an insulin issue is not totally completely out but the obstacles that have to be dealt with make it pretty hard for even the most perfect diabetic to pursue as a hobby!. Really enjoy your videos..their great ! Greatly appreciated ! Thanks again.
Im' thinking that insulin dependent diabetes since being a kid rules out any chance of an FAA third class medical but man I'd sell my family into a slavery to fly out there and land @ KAVX. Anyone know if locally in So-Cal there are any commercial operators that fly out there that take passangers back and forth that cannot fly themselves ??
thats my dream i just started flying and my dream its land in catalina island but i live too far away i live in el salvador san salvador msss comalapa and ilopango airport but next time i go over there ill have my license
dec. 2006 i had the chance to travel and Catalina was a pit stop. i arrived in Long beach early morning and took a fleet across the water to catalina (got motion sickness) but it was worth it the island is so homey and well perserved. thank you for sharing that clip it's hard to find anything on catalina. (i lost my memory card on the island) so have no pictures to remember it by. once again thank you!!!
I was involved in a couple red hot Maydays with 105's in the late 70's. Both resulted in loss of aircraft but the pilots survied. Both just outside of R5601 (Ft Still, OK).
There is a plane at our FBO that is booked about 80% of the time (no joke!) The last thin FlightAware has for it is something back in June '06... beats me!
Just discovered your videos and I think they're outstanding. To think...I sat at home at my computer in south Georgia and visited Catalina Island with you. Thanks.
This was my favorite video yet. Fantastic views of approach into Catalina. One slight suggestion for the future...maybe turn down music volume a bit so its easier to hear talking. Are you at all concerned flying a single over water??
My error, the video on my website has a lower music volume. Over water, yes but there is always at least 25 boats between the mainland and Catalina. This day there must have been 100. Note I went to 6,500 too.

Via means "by way of" and is a controllers way of telling you which route to take (ex. direct, VOR, NDB, etc.)
