Going through my own medical nightmare has not only opened my eyes to the reality that each American citizen is being bamboozled into believing the government is looking out for us. I had to go through it myself before I believed Michael Moore. Now I know our government does not care if we live or die, as long as they get their kick backs from the health care industry. Hurray Michael Moore for having the guts to stand up to the status-quo.

Their job is defending our borders and upholding our constitution. Universal healthcare will be nothing but a universal mess.
Health is a public service. The federal government built our interstate highway system, thats a public service. We have enough bombs, lets spend some money saving lives rather than on ways to kill more people faster.
I agree with you about the bombs but health is really not a publc service, especially not a federal one. Over 70% of all money they take from us stays in DC to support the department while 80% that's voluntarily given to private organizations goes to the people it's intended for. Apply those numbers to medicare and the millions of dollars that's spent on it.
There's a scene in this movie where the birth of the British system is explained. They decided, at the end of WW2, that, if they could spend all this money in order to kill people, why couldn't they use a lot of money in order to save them? The idea that gets lost in this is that while this bill may cost 1.5 trillion over 10 years, our defense spending will cost us 5.1 trillion over the same time. So the US should be the country known for destruction, not construction in the minds of teabaggers.
All lobbyists should be hunted down by ALL Americans, especially Health Care lobbyists. These parasites are the middlemen between corrupt fudge-packing politicians, and fascist corporations. These terrorists need to be made an example of. Us Americans may have problems with health care, but what makes the US great is the history and the land and the people. Like the US make great stuff like games such as Gears of War and Hollywood. Look, leave the space program alone. 15-16 billion a year is only less than 1% of the federal budget. Compare that with any other government agency that get ~5 to 10x more that that. The problem is not the amount of money, but how it used and spent. If the other agencies can't effectively much with the money they have, 16 billion more won't help one damn bit.

I apologize if I sounded intrusive but how long did you have epilepsy and how often did you a have seizures? Did medications help you stop or minimize your seziures? What would you suggest I should try after having Grand Mal seizures for over 10 years? My point, universal healthcare is a fraud. Franch, canada etc etc have poor educated doctors and waiting lists that are 5-6 years long that provide healthcare to only their citizens. I have Crohn's Disease. It's a a disease that in forieghn countries is easly and cheaply treated and rummored to be cured in some. Sence I have it I can't get any insurance. My pills cost 5 times as much as it's in canada. It's not just insurance it's pharmaces. It's more profitable to treat many diseases than cure them no matter how you look at it.

We have terrific library systems. New mothers (& dads too) are entitled to 1 year mat. leave with unemployment benefits. Your new moms head back in what, 6 weeks? Correction, $21,000. That's still a large chunk of change regardless. You could move here - make the same - pay less - and get a private insurance company for a heck of a lot less than what your paying. We have public schools which are great - 2 of my kids enjoy a great education here. We have great insurance. And we can own our home. I think that's a better deal.
maybe the public schools are great on your side of town. i know home ownership is definitely on the decline here. I definitely can't afford my insurance because I was a fat kid who became a fat adult. I can't say the school lunch diet of Dominoes Pizza, french fries, and fruit punch every day was a smart choice, but I also can't say there was much option.
Don't move to Canada. That wasn't the point. (Just visit -you are fun tourists.) You love your country, the same as we love ours. Make the changes that you need to. Government involvement in health care is a wonderful thing. Lobby congress to legislate the necessary changes. That should be one of the biggest points in your upcoming election. 1 last one. Went to the USSR in '89 for our honeymoon. On our 1st day my husband was just recovering from an ulcer. He passed out in the Kremlin & they called in an ambulance. It came with a doctor! We couldn't really communicate, but she took Jan's vitals, gave him some drugs, patted him on the cheek & left. (We later flushed the drugs.) But the point is - we were tourists, & it was FREE! We'd been there about 7 hours at that point. And if the USSR could do it ...
Pt. 3 I just thought of anther one. I had my tubes tied 20 years ago. Day surgery, full complement in the OR, and back then they weren't even charging for parking. In fact, I think they even gave me the meds for free too.
Pt 2. I shredded my thumb tendon while breaking my wrist, so I needed a tendon transplant. I had to wait a few months for the day surgery, but a leading plastic surgeon did it. And we didn't even have to pay for parking because it was a quick surgical pick-up! My company insurance paid for the meds.

I'm a lucky Canadian. I busted my wrist in '04 and spent 14 hours in the hospital. They had to bring in an orthopedic surgeon & a surgical team to set my arm in the OR. The cost - $20 Cdn for the upgraded cast (I wanted pink) and, of course parking. That's all folks. Oh, and the pain meds, which my work plan covered.
The only solution in the U.S. is NOT TO GET SICK. Unless you are rich, of course. If your in college, you better cross your fingers because the trip is killer expensive and to top it off, health insurance is often not the first thing to come to your mind. You are young, right? health problems are for the future, right? Wrong. I learned this the hard way, having graduated with a 3.9 GPA yet discovering heart abnormalties - it's been four months, still waiting for care without being able to work.

Over 70% of all money they take from us stays in DC to support the department while 80% that's voluntarily given to private organizations goes to the people it's intended for. There's a scene in this movie where the birth of the British system is explained. They decided, at the end of WW2, that, if they could spend all this money in order to kill people, why couldn't they use a lot of money in order to save them? The idea that gets lost in this is that while this bill may cost 1.5 trillion over 10 years, our defense spending will cost us 5.1 trillion over the same time. So the US should be the country known for destruction, not construction in the minds of teabaggers.

Look, leave the space program alone. 15-16 billion a year is only less than 1% of the federal budget. Compare that with any other government agency that get ~5 to 10x more that that. The problem is not the amount of money, but how it used and spent. If the other agencies can't effectively much with the money they have, 16 billion more won't help one damn bit.

When Eisenhower spoke of "industrial military (congress) complex", it was largely the liberal demo politicians who wanted to increase the nation's spending on miltary. His successor, Kennedy, partially won the '61 presidential election on biligerent anti-communist platform (charging that the repubs were soft - the Soviets had more nuclear arms than the US). The traditional cons like Buchanan and Paul opposed the Gulf War, Kosovo (ur prez Clinton blatantly breached the WPR), and the W in Iraq.

My point, universal healthcare is a fraud. Franch, canada etc etc have poor educated doctors and waiting lists that are 5-6 years long that provide healthcare to only their citizens. I have Crohn's Disease. It's a a disease that in forieghn countries is easly and cheaply treated and rummored to be cured in some. Sence I have it I can't get any insurance. My pills cost 5 times as much as it's in canada. It's not just insurance it's pharmaces. It's more profitable to treat many diseases than cure them no matter how you look at it.

He get's the same response from a state doctor. "well your alive don't worry about it your fine." Dave - it's great here. I'm a school secretary, my husband is a teacher. No kids (by choice) but if we did they'd go to one of our excellent local public schools. The gov't helps with univ. tuition. We have terrific library systems. New mothers (& dads too) are entitled to 1 year mat. leave with unemployment benefits. Your new moms head back in what, 6 weeks? Read my earlier postings about my surgeries. All true/all free. By the way, how much is your tax rate on $105,000?

Correction, $21,000. That's still a large chunk of change regardless. You could move here - make the same - pay less - and get a private insurance company for a heck of a lot less than what your paying. We have public schools which are great - 2 of my kids enjoy a great education here. We have great insurance. And we can own our home. I think that's a better deal.

maybe the public schools are great on your side of town. i know home ownership is definitely on the decline here. I definitely can't afford my insurance because I was a fat kid who became a fat adult. I can't say the school lunch diet of Dominoes Pizza, french fries, and fruit punch every day was a smart choice, but I also can't say there was much option.

Don't move to Canada. That wasn't the point. (Just visit -you are fun tourists.) You love your country, the same as we love ours. Make the changes that you need to. Government involvement in health care is a wonderful thing. Lobby congress to legislate the necessary changes. That should be one of the biggest points in your upcoming election. Especially with all the wounded returning from Iraq.

To any Americans reading this: I'm not laughing at you or your health care system (and I apologize for any Canadians who are) - I'm just trying to point out that our health system works, and our country is doing just fine.
Having said this, I confess I haven't yet seen SiCKO, but I am planning to.

1 last one. Went to the USSR in '89 for our honeymoon. On our 1st day my husband was just recovering from an ulcer. He passed out in the Kremlin & they called in an ambulance. It came with a doctor! We couldn't really communicate, but she took Jan's vitals, gave him some drugs, patted him on the cheek & left. (We later flushed the drugs.) But the point is - we were tourists, & it was FREE! We'd been there about 7 hours at that point. And if the USSR could do it ...

Pt. 3 I just thought of anther one. I had my tubes tied 20 years ago. Day surgery, full complement in the OR, and back then they weren't even charging for parking. In fact, I think they even gave me the meds for free too.

Pt 2. I shredded my thumb tendon while breaking my wrist, so I needed a tendon transplant. I had to wait a few months for the day surgery, but a leading plastic surgeon did it. And we didn't even have to pay for parking because it was a quick surgical pick-up! My company insurance paid for the meds.
Question: Why are you Americans so afraid of our type of health system? It's the greatest thing ever! And Keifer Sutherland's grandfather is the man responsible for it!

I'm a lucky Canadian. I busted my wrist in '04 and spent 14 hours in the hospital. They had to bring in an orthopedic surgeon & a surgical team to set my arm in the OR. The cost - $20 Cdn for the upgraded cast (I wanted pink) and, of course parking. That's all folks. Oh, and the pain meds, which my work plan covered.

The only solution in the U.S. is NOT TO GET SICK. Unless you are rich, of course. If your in college, you better cross your fingers because the trip is killer expensive and to top it off, health insurance is often not the first thing to come to your mind. You are young, right? health problems are for the future, right? Wrong. I learned this the hard way, having graduated with a 3.9 GPA yet discovering heart abnormalties - it's been four months, still waiting for care without being able to work.

I work in this so called "medical system" the main objective is MONEY and the GREEDY doctors have fallen into the trap. I know doctors that let a patient die because they have an HMO and he knows he will only get a 'capitated' payment ... so let the patient die - there's no more money to drain from him !

Maybe if michael moore had grown up in a country with a better health system, he wouldn't be THAT fat (although he really isn't). A lot of obesity has to do with genes, not only the way you eat. The american health care system is punitive, it teaches nothing about prevention, because even going for a check up at the doctors is expensive. Next thing you know, you wake up one morning and your entire colon is infested with cancer.

Support BILL HR676 - Don't patronize us and say it's not free, "We pay for it with taxes!." Well we drive on city streets for FREE - their construction paid with taxes, they're FREE, - Books at our libraries are FREE, - our Fire Departments, Police Departments etc., are FREE. All FREE services, collectively socialized and paid for with our tax dollars. To argue that Health Care -- a life & death issue for many -- shouldn't be considered in the SAME league is LUDICROUS and ARCHAIC.

We give money to government for streets and end up paying toll roads. Why? We have public libraries, but most people go and pay for books at Barnes N nobles. Why? police all do their job, but if you are a celeb like Moore, you have personal security. Why? Government services are never as good as free market services. Sorry but your way of thinking is somehow "ludicrous and archaic"! The diference between your exeamples is that in healthcare you don't have both systems. It is not a choice between private and public but rather assure that everyone has the basic rights garantied. I think health is one of it. But don't mind me I am just a "stupid citizen" from "Old Europe"...
