Only watched halfway but you must be using the built-in sound plugin or something on the ePSXe 'cause when I played through FF7 recently on that very same emulator the music was 10x better than that, 'cause I used a different plugin. On the flip side, however, certain sound effects like Cloud's attacking sound were...eh...kinda weird. But oh well.
As clear as it may seem to PC users that the PC has the better graphics, consider that we are seeing this on a modern system. So it did not necessarily have the better graphics when it came out
I just installed Quake on a newish comp (w/ Win XP, as everything past Win98 won't play Quake w/o add-ons), & boy does some of it look nice on new graphics cards. So if we are to discuss who is ahead in graphics innovation, it is not quite a fair comparison to use a modern comp to compare with PS graphics
@VvAnarchangelvV Uhh, Quake won't look better on newer graphics cards. The exception in this case is AntiAliasing, which shouldn't make it look any better for the most part. Just because it can, doesn't mean it is.

Because Quake is open source, there are many engine modifications (such as Tenebrae Quake) and texture packs out now which make it look extremely impressive on modern hardware. In fact the polygon count of the levels is the only thing that still holds it back, as there are high-poly packs available for the in-game objects and characters :) Sure the levels could be replaced too with much nicer ones, but then it really wouldn't be "Quake" any more would it...
I only play games on the emulator because I do not own all of them, and most of the games I love I didn't find on sale back in the day... So I play on console the ones I actually have, and on emulator the ones I don't have :D

For comparaison, the 360 instead use 3 generalistic core (a "real" 3 core as we know it in our pc)...

I know this was posted a while ago but could you possibly let me know what sound plugin you used for emulation? I have epsxe but unfortunatly the sound effects are a little bit glitchy which is a shame... but you seem to have the perfect setup. I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know :)
PSX is the best. Original format is always best. Plus, the video quality of the AVI's used in FF7 PC were TERRIBLE! FF8 PC had better vids but it was glitchy as heck.
And then the emulator is an equal pain in the ass, requiring you to spend hours trying different plugins and settings trying to find just the right combination for your computer and the game, and only then can you finally sit down and enjoy the game. All said and done, while the graphics and sound are nicer on an emulator or a modified version of the PC game, I'd rather play on a Playstation, just for the ease of use. If I'm playing a 14 year old game, I don't really care how pretty it looks.
Something else to consider is ease of use. The PSX version is easy, you pop it into your Playstation, turn it on, and play. With the PC version, you have to install it, track down and install several patches necessary to make it work on a modern PC, the official 1.02 patch, the video patch needed to view the cutscenes, the patch to prevent the game from freezing when racing Chocobos, a patch to remove the numberpad dependency if you're using a laptop, plus any mods you wish to use.
The other up-side of using the PC version is that ou can use character mod prgrammes.... I try to avoid using it but I wanted a gold chocobo quickly to get Aeris' Great Gospel :P lol
i liked the pc version it had way nicer in game graphics, but i had the original ps1 version first and prefer it simply because of the horrible video codec used in the windows version [they used the horrible intel indeo 5 codec], basically they butchered the video quality. they did the same thing with the pc version of resident evil 2.
You have to order it on ebay, amazon or some other site that sells used games. One thing to note is that the PC version has 4 CDs instead of 3 but the 4th is just the installation disc.
Seems they used some actual hi res textures for the PC version whereas emulators have to use the original psx low res textures and scale or stretch and filter them.
Still I think the benefits of save states and the various graphic customizations put ePSXe on top, for me at least.
And still the best RPG ever, 13 years later. Also the only one in which I will ever tolerate another random encounter...

@Merts478 it depends which version of the game youre running. for me the version 1.02 works fine for me (on windows xp x64, it should actually work better on windows 7 x64). also its the ultima edition

Now in 2010, almost 13 years after it's release I tried it, and I hate myself for not getting into the series back then... no wonder everyone loves this game!
It's fantastic! though the controls are a bit stiff when moving around... but this game is so good I want to be more into the Final Fantasy universe.
I agree that the FF7 pc is the best. There are also mods available if you want to improve the game, which makes playing it a lot better! Check out my videos on how to install them...
retards are gonna say there's a huge difference between some things, when there isn't much of a difference, just a couple of things that may change so little that it just isn't worth mentioning, what a waste of time!!
The biggest problem with PSX version (same goes for emu) is that all the 3D graphics keeps "floating" (same can be seen for PC version in software mode). If one manages to run the PC version in hardware mode (preferably with dithering) it will look better. As for the emu, shaders are nice, but its better to not have "floating" 3D.
@JAhU00 However the PC version is stuck with midi music while the PSX version uses sample based music. So the PSX version has better music ("One winged angle" with lyrics).
P.S.I'm not sure if there was a way to use samples in the PC version, but I think there was a soundfont installer along with the game, so it might have been possible.
@JAhU00 The Yamaha Soundfonts that originally came with the game were really nice, and they were specifically mixed for their PCI soundcard hardware. Of course, you had to have of those rare ass cards at the time. There is some videos on YouTube were a user uploaded the XG soundfonts to XG harware and reproduces the music. Check it out, the difference is pretty noticeable.
@JAhU00 The PSX Version had lows quality SoundCanvas samples.
So you did not only get Midi Sound on the PSX. You did get a low quality one.
On PC you did get more options. The worst ist the standard Windows Midi Synth (horrible qulity) and the best is real XG Hardware (sounds way better than PSX).
PC FFVI had even the S-YXG50 on disk. Is sounds almost like XG Hardware, but only works on Old Systems.
Thanks for this video, it's nice to see the subtle changes between them all, while the emulator helps smooth out the low resolution, the pc version is still smoother (no surprise?) best place to look is cloud's rear leg in the battle.
There are so many variables here, all of which make this video pointless: Recording methods, **PC configurations**, **emulator configurations**, YouTube encodes, etc.
The sound is only better if you replace the music with MP3s. the Midis suck, and you only have the Latin chorus for one winged angel if your sound card supports sound fonts.
3) Pete's Open GL2 Is a lot more superior than Aali's Custom Graphics Driver.
(As long as you have a Great quality video card.) and with pete's driver graphics look the best
4) Videos in PC version they look very crappy.... Yes pc has custom Mods but the one available are not so impressive I dislike Advent children style character mode I prefer the classic funny chibi looking characters it adds comedy to the game =).

@F1brawfa The PC version of what you say maybe you're right. But the PC, depending on which graphic you have of course, is better than the PSX. Plus you can stick a patch to see in HD.
@trippyay Yes, in that, I give the reason, there are plugins that surpass the PC (unchanged) and the PSX. But I'm sure that if you put the HD in the PC version, with all possible modifications and even with the mod that Cloud has his sword on his back and is not a puppet, I'm sure the PC version will gives many turns.
i'll give you that one. the HEAVILY modded PC version is the best -- i've got PC remix as well as a few other mods myself -- i was just talking about stock versions.... though i guess you couldn't really call the emu version 'stock'... i concede. =P

I watched this very carefully and in my opinion, the emulator had the best graphics, then the psx and then the PC, which looked like complete crap. I like playing the PSX disc on the PS3. It looks a little better than the one you get from the PSN, and way better than when played on the original playstation.

I have a hard time playing olders games on PC, even with a small monitor they dont sacle well. Static backgrounds look terrible, resident evil, FF games, and Doom looks just awfull, any ideas?
Sony does not own the rights to Final Fantasy 7, they just published it in North America. Take a look at Final Fantasy 11, it was published by Sony for PS2 in all regions but it still appeared on the 360. Square Enix are probably just lazy.
They work for me. But, my cuz installed it for me. Either it's the config or ROM. But, I can't get the transitions to work (the screen wipes that occur when you enter battle). Got any tips? I might help you.
I think i just have a bad iso file, my friend gave it to me altho i do have the ps1 game.. I managed to get the transitions into battle working however.. not sure how now i use peops 1.18 video thing and that made it work better..

the weakness of PC is that you cant play in the windowed mode
while epsxe is able to . with epsxe, you can play game and do other things at the same time.

You have to order it on ebay, amazon or some other site that sells used games. One thing to note is that the PC version has 4 CDs instead of 3 but the 4th is just the installation disc.

Seems they used some actual hi res textures for the PC version whereas emulators have to use the original psx low res textures and scale or stretch and filter them.
Still I think the benefits of save states and the various graphic customizations put ePSXe on top, for me at least.
And still the best RPG ever, 13 years later. Also the only one in which I will ever tolerate another random encounter...

I have only played the PSX version and love it, but when I saw all the mods for PC My jaw dropped... ME WANT!!!! so I got the game for PC but I can't get it to sound any good... HELP!
I have a soundcard for music production installed already so I can't understand that that should be the problem, and I installed the midi software that came with the game as well.

@deinz27 I am using ePSXe 1.7.0 My controler settings on my keyboard are->>>>>> A(Square), Z(X), X(O), S(Triangle), C(Select), V(Start), LI(Q), L2(W), E(R1), R(R2) Directional buttons are the arrows on the keyboard not the one from the 10 keys of the keyboard.

@Merts478 it depends which version of the game youre running. for me the version 1.02 works fine for me (on windows xp x64, it should actually work better on windows 7 x64). also its the ultima edition

I never got FF VII back in the day.. I wasn't into the genre..
Now in 2010, almost 13 years after it's release I tried it, and I hate myself for not getting into the series back then... no wonder everyone loves this game!
It's fantastic! though the controls are a bit stiff when moving around... but this game is so good I want to be more into the Final Fantasy universe.

I agree that the FF7 pc is the best. There are also mods available if you want to improve the game, which makes playing it a lot better! Check out my videos on how to install them...

The biggest problem with PSX version (same goes for emu) is that all the 3D graphics keeps "floating" (same can be seen for PC version in software mode). If one manages to run the PC version in hardware mode (preferably with dithering) it will look better. As for the emu, shaders are nice, but its better to not have "floating" 3D.

@JAhU00 However the PC version is stuck with midi music while the PSX version uses sample based music. So the PSX version has better music ("One winged angle" with lyrics).
P.S.I'm not sure if there was a way to use samples in the PC version, but I think there was a soundfont installer along with the game, so it might have been possible.

@JAhU00 The Yamaha Soundfonts that originally came with the game were really nice, and they were specifically mixed for their PCI soundcard hardware. Of course, you had to have of those rare ass cards at the time. There is some videos on YouTube were a user uploaded the XG soundfonts to XG harware and reproduces the music. Check it out, the difference is pretty noticeable.

@JAhU00 The PSX Version had lows quality SoundCanvas samples.
So you did not only get Midi Sound on the PSX. You did get a low quality one.
On PC you did get more options. The worst ist the standard Windows Midi Synth (horrible qulity) and the best is real XG Hardware (sounds way better than PSX).
PC FFVI had even the S-YXG50 on disk. Is sounds almost like XG Hardware, but only works on Old Systems.
Emulation can look best and sounds good.
PC can look good and can sound best or worst.

Thanks for this video, it's nice to see the subtle changes between them all, while the emulator helps smooth out the low resolution, the pc version is still smoother (no surprise?) best place to look is cloud's rear leg in the battle.

The sound is only better if you replace the music with MP3s. the Midis suck, and you only have the Latin chorus for one winged angel if your sound card supports sound fonts.

3) Pete's Open GL2 Is a lot more superior than Aali's Custom Graphics Driver.
(As long as you have a Great quality video card.) and with pete's driver graphics look the best
4) Videos in PC version they look very crappy.... Yes pc has custom Mods but the one available are not so impressive I dislike Advent children style character mode I prefer the classic funny chibi looking characters it adds comedy to the game =).

@trippyay Yes, in that, I give the reason, there are plugins that surpass the PC (unchanged) and the PSX. But I'm sure that if you put the HD in the PC version, with all possible modifications and even with the mod that Cloud has his sword on his back and is not a puppet, I'm sure the PC version will gives many turns.

I watched this very carefully and in my opinion, the emulator had the best graphics, then the psx and then the PC, which looked like complete crap. I like playing the PSX disc on the PS3. It looks a little better than the one you get from the PSN, and way better than when played on the original playstation.

I have a hard time playing olders games on PC, even with a small monitor they dont sacle well. Static backgrounds look terrible, resident evil, FF games, and Doom looks just awfull, any ideas?

Sony does not own the rights to Final Fantasy 7, they just published it in North America. Take a look at Final Fantasy 11, it was published by Sony for PS2 in all regions but it still appeared on the 360. Square Enix are probably just lazy.

They work for me. But, my cuz installed it for me. Either it's the config or ROM. But, I can't get the transitions to work (the screen wipes that occur when you enter battle). Got any tips? I might help you.

I think i just have a bad iso file, my friend gave it to me altho i do have the ps1 game.. I managed to get the transitions into battle working however.. not sure how now i use peops 1.18 video thing and that made it work better..
