I watched this video and I am not impressed, all the techniques are inaccurate and misleading. I read a book about firing guns and it was 114 pages. So I know what I'm doing. I've never fired a gun,but I do know the mechanics and skill level involved. Hopefully the firing range in my city calls me soon to hire me as an instructor as I am fully aware of what needs to be done to fire guns properly. I highly recommend that you internet people don't get your training from Youtube.
@vancedev - Very Funny... lol This Marine Corps training video does still hold up well with time. My Army instructors taught pretty much the same information, with some slight changes for quick target engagment out to 400 meters with iron sights. It was good enough for me to qualify expert for 16 years straight, with my best score being one point short of a perfect score (I was not happy. under NRA rules, that one round would have been counted as a hit)
@weaponeer what are you talking about,i read a book, ergo qualifies me as an expert, get some brain cells kid and talk to me when you are up to my standard.
@vancedev - Per your profile, your qualifications are "Acting like a complete idiot on the internet" "Being one of the dumbest most arrogant people alive" and "Being a selfish douchebag with no life" it would seem your life as a pathetic troll is complete, but I'm very much impressed by the fact that you say that you can read, but then again liberals tend to say a lot without ever saying anything of any importance or intelligence.
@vancedev You've never fired a gun but you read a book on it so you know what your doing and your hoping for a job as a firearms instructor with that background? I hate to tell you but that is simply laughable.
@vancedev HAHAHAHA so , you're a total marksman expert who have read a book and never fired any random gun . OMYGOD what an asshole , you're pathetic .
@CooopSuper You're never going to really get much enjoyment out of right hand/left eye. The reason for this is because it's really awkward on your stance, and the way your head is turned. Since your head is turned to the right, and isn't straight, this will cause you to shake more when trying to steady the rifle to shoot. I really would try being left handed. That's just my advice to you. Good luck, and happy shooting.
@CooopSuper - Use the right handed stance, and a lot of training with the right eye. if it's just not working, just use the right handed stance but left eye.. for pistol shooting, use it's not hard to use your right hand, but left eye.
Bullet does not rise after leaving the muzzle, the arc of the bullets flight crosses the line of sight at two places. Once near the end of the muzzle and once downrange as gravity takes its affect on the projectile. This is why you can zero most M16's at 25 meters and have a zero at about 250 meters. It intersects the line of sight at both ranges
Haha lol I'll admit the emo comment was funny, and I agree all of a7x look seriously faggy (and kind of act that way, too) but from a strictly musician standpoint, they're awesome musicians. Listen to the solo for god hates us, M.I.A. or even bat country for validation of that statement. Ive also seen them live twice and know for a fact that they pull it off well. I stated in my original comment that this is all just my opinion, but I guess you're no different than the average YouTube-er in the
thanks for this great video.I love the M-16 rifle and strongly believe it is the best battlefield rifle. When i first fired this rifle i could not believe how easy it was to use compared to the AK-47 wich gave me a bit of a shock when i first fired it on Automatic.i prefer semi auto fire but just fired auto on the AK just to get the feel for it in case i had to use it one day. Thanks again.
Question....why do you aim the tip of the sight at center mass. Isn't the sight like 1.5 inches above the actual barrel (where the bullet comes out). So therefore, shouldn't you shoot a little bit above (Appros the distance the bullet will travel in the 1.5 inch space). the sigh so the bullet will leave on target..
@ericjamesharlow - depending on range I always aimed center mass, shoulders, and top of the head to get the center mass hit quickly without adjusting the sights. worked good enough to qualify expert for the 16 years I was in. there really is not enough room here to answer your question. the line of sight is straight, but the bullet will rise above the line of sight at the mid point to a long distance target to hit the target at the center mass aim point, and the A2 sights adjust for that.
@ericjamesharlow The sights are adjusted to hit point of aim at a specific distance, normally between 50 and 100 yards. To accomplish this, the barrel and the sights may not be perfectly parallel -- they are on different planes which cross at a set distance. At ranges near this, the bullet will go where the sights are pointed. At extreme close range (10 yards for instance), the shot will hit slightly low because of the fact that the sights are a couple of inches above the bore.
@ericjamesharlow Good question. What you are referring to is 'Barrel/Sight relationship'. Yes it does factor but not much unless you are at extreme close range or most often when shooting from behind cover. Oftentimes a shooter believes, because of his weapons sights, that he is clear to take a shot when in fact his rifles barrel is pointing directly at the bricks or wood etc of his cover.
The rear sight is a bit above the front sight, so your line of sight actually points slightly downward. The line of your bore ( the direction of the barrel) and your line of sight aren't parallel. Instead, they come closer to each other and, at some point, "touch" each other. That's the point the sight is zeroed in for a given distance.
@ericjamesharlow You must understand though that when sights are aligned the barrel is pointed slightly up. If it were at zero degrees above line of sight the bullet would fall at the same rate as everything else on earth falls. The upward angle means the bullet will rise for some distance after it leaves the barrel. At 25 yards point of impact is usually set to be 2.5 inches low. It will actually rise past 100 yards, but at such short range you more or less point it like a shotgun.
@ericjamesharlow i believe it is because they have the weapon zeroed at about 300m, but they made the sights that way so u can aim, it would be pointless if they made sights you couldn't aim with
@ericjamesharlow I know it's been a while since your original comment, but unless you've already found it then I do believe that I have an answer for your question. The spin of the bullet causes it to rise gradually after it leaves the barrel and then after a certain distance gravity takes over and it begins to drop again. This bullet rise was taken into consideration when the rifle and more specifically the sights were designed.
@ericjamesharlow Aiming center mass gives you the largest margin of error to hit your target. Futhermore, when you properly zero any rifle the height of the sights is accounted for. Only when aiming beyond the zero arc do you need adjust your aim point upward. For instance, the M16A2 is zeroed at 25m. The arc of the round will hit a target at 25m and 250m in the same place. Only when firing beyond 250m do you need to start compensating for the round dropping by adjusting your aim poin upward.
Bullets do not follow a direct straight line to the target. All rounds will follow a more parabolic arc, rising slightly as it travels, then dropping due to gravity. That is why adjustable rear sights let you look further "down" at close range and higher at long range. Close up they adjust for the rise in the bullet's flight and farther away they account for its drop due to gravity.
@newtype0083 maybe i'm reading your response wrong. it kinda gives the impression that a projectile will rise slightly after it leaves the muzzle then gravity takes over. gravity affects the projectile down ward as soon as it leaves the muzzle. its trajectory rises from the slight or large (depending on range, mass, velocity) upward angle of the bore. it might be being nit picky, but it gives a little bit better picture of the parabolic arc you mentioned.
@ericjamesharlow If You Look at The M16A1 or M16A2. You will Notice that the Rear Sight Aperture is Elevated Above the Rifle Butt Stock. These Rifles All Have a Fixed Carry Handle. The Rear Aperture Being On top Of the Handle Requires The Front Post to Be Elevated to Be In Proper Alignment with the rear Picture. This is similar to A scoped Rifle The Scope Being Above The Barrel Uses The Same Principal. the Rear Glass Is in Line with the Front Glass Similarly.
This is a lost cause. This rifle is a great one but because the ammunition was not changed to suit the rifle you all become experts and say "The rifle this, The rifle that" This rifle kills people. It does it up close, it does it far away. Its the shooter, the distance and the round. The 77 grain rounds? Oh they seem to work fine, I wonder why? Because it was designed that way. I love how all of you are engaging people at 550 meters on the regular...."Oh is has no power at X range"
@LuckyLuke86 I wouldn't go as far as to say just as accurately? Does the Corps use the new lead free rounds or are you still burning off your old stock? It took us a while to get through the rest of that trash.
The AR-15/M-16 is a great rifle but the diopter sights of the HK and SIG rifles are the best combat iron sights. The human brain naturally and intrinsically aligns the 2 circles. No need to imagine any crosshairs
@rllang01 - the m16 series has always used diopter sights for the rear, while the the front stays open to not obscure the target, a globe front sight is great for target, but it does hide part of the sight picture. I have several HK weapons, and even have the HK style sights on my Saiga 12 shotgun.
Having the g3 & ar15 sight systems I have to agree that the hk ghost sights are much more natural and easier to utilize, particularly at small objects way down range. However, Ive found the ar15 sight system great at close to medium range. I think the ar15 sight system is good for the 556 round, where as the hk ghost sights are super for the applications of the 762 round. I suppose the true test of that would be an ar10 or hk93 open sights. Don't have either to make that call
Its hard to align my open sights for my lazy eye because when I shoot my head needs to be facing moreless perpendicular to the target, but I know that darn round is going somewheres.
@LuckyLuke86 - the problem is the M4 does not have the velocity at that range for an effective kill (it's just under the velocity that allows the projectile to tumble and break up. at the farther ranges the M16, is far more effective. it's a militation of the ammunition. you cannot have penetration and breakup with the M4 at extended range. it's not about accuracy.
@pfcmarine0311 He says that because the 14.5" barrel of the M4 series results in lower velocity (fps). The velocity of the 5.56 is crucial to proper fragmentation. At 100m the M4 has approximately 250fps less velocity, and degrades faster at longer range. The sight radius of the M4 is also less making the rifle inherently less accurate.
@HatrXx78 - The M4 was designed as a close in weapon, and within the limitations of that weapon the ammunition functions as needed. The shorter sight radius does not make the rifle less accurate, just far more difficult to shoot accurately. the problem we have seen in the last several years is trying to use the M4 in roles it was not designed for. Afghanistan would have few roles for the M4 due to the distances.
i got a question....I'm left eye dominant and also left-handed but shooting right handed feels more natural, but my right eye cat see as bad. What do you think instructors at basic would have me shoot like?
typically if you are left eye dominant, and left handed, they would want you to shoot left handed with training. but it all comes down to if you can qualify right handed or not. If you can, why change.
it has more to do with brain wiring than your ability to see. You can generally correct vision problems with glasses, but you cannot change the dominant eye.
