Blues is about feeling and transmiting it to people. And as he says, its all about quoting but I would add the phrase by saying its all about quoting in your own way" knowing when to use some licks and when not to.

Mayer is one of the best bluesmen in these days.

Sorry disagree, I've worked with real blues men. He's OK, but I gurantee he never worked a dirt floor bar or some tank town somewhere. The Blues is a life lived. He didn't . He's a white kid from Ct. Not exactly Blues Country. He's got alot of dues to pay.

Eric payed alot of dues. If you look over his life. Yes alot if self inflicted. His son etc. He is a great Blues Guitarist. He came up when most people didn't know what it was in the early 60's. Mayer has talent, but he's just not there yet. I doubt if he knows his keys. He's got alot of growing up to do yet. It my book.

Mayer is to busy trying to be a celebrity than be a good musician. The critics lately bare me out. There are so many better talented blues and jazz players out there to take him seriously. He needs to study his instrument more and prepare or he'll be just another has been soon. He's not really serious enough yet.

Mayer is one of the greatest guitarists of our time.

Of course there are other greats like Joe Bonamassa or Derek Truk.

But at this point of playing you can't say someone is better, it's just diffrent and you prefere what you like the most.

The fact that Mayer Played with Eric Clapton and BB King should show you that he is one of the best.

True James, but you also have to honor the music appropriately, as well as the artists. That said, to even put JM even in the same sentence as Albert King and SRV is just wrong. His talent is juvenile comparatively. And yes, SRV played alot of King songs, but played them with total originality, and always credited King, even as he surpassed him.

God what is it with you people? Every artist playing blues or rock or any music genre that has been around for more than 5 minutes is bound to take bits of other people's styles and form them into their own. And any of these musician's will be more than happy to credit these people for their influence. So it may not be completely original but at the same time, there are parts of their styles that will be unique to them. It's about enjoying the music, not arguing about who did it first.
