...wonderful movie.. even if it has an anti gun message... this movie shows how we fear what we don't understand, so we assume first than panic, ..we are our worst enemies..
@kam123434 haha i was thinking that too, the giant doesn't really stop their fall very gracefully, they would probably be banged up pretty bad after that
OMFG I FEEL LIKE CRYING I HAVNT WATCHED THIS MOVIE SINCE I WAS A LITTLE KID AND IT WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITES :'/ SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME A WEBSITE WHERE I COULD WATCH IT FOR FREE :[[[[[[[[[
I think the giant didn't use his guns to blast the missile because he doesn't want to be a weapon anymore. If he gave in to that instinct, he would not be able to control what he would do. He might even destroy the town after he destroyed the missile. It's more noble to just sacrifice himself, unlike that jerk Mansley -- Screw my country I want to live!!
@tumtillio yea i noticed many similarities with this and ET, but I think this movie is better than ET because you get a better sense of the giant as a person
This movie had Vin Deisel, Jennifer Anniston and Harry Connick Jnr. in it and everybody is talking like it came out three weeks after the dawn of moving pictures. "They don't make 'em like this anymore !"...???? Jeez...I loved this movie but it seems like it turns everybody into granpa Simpson once they've seen it.
I remember having an obsession over this movie as a young kid back in the day, my mom took me up to the video rental store one night during summer of 1999. I happened to walk past one of the shelves that had iron giant action figures on them and I was immediately tempted to have one. I remember being fascinated by the iron giants rocket boots for some reason. Anyways, I ended up opening a box and stealing the action figure, somehow getting to the door I think, but got caught by mom eventually.
Something I keep thingking... the soldiers heard what Dean said about the giant being only on defense mode and that he reacts if he's threatened. Why didn't anyone tell the general? Kent might not have screwed things up.... but well....
@TRAXEL47 Well when the giant catches them his hand shifts downward therefore absorbing some of the impact, rather then if they hit the ground which will not move downward with them would probably break some bones, if not kill them.
You logic is like the first super hero car and everything that comes after even it the model is different the story is different and all that its still a copy.
I saw this in the theater when I was 23. I only went to see it because the critics went nuts over it.
It was one of the few movies that I actually gave a standing ovation to. More movies need to be made like this. Great storyline, some humor, all heart.
I'll be seventy and I'll still enjoy this timeless masterpiece.
@kewltyler44 Yeah. Sorry...I'm not too clear when I post a comment at 2 in the morning.
When this movie came out Warner Brothers was behind it to some extent but what really helped it was almost every critic raved about it which in turn lead to alot of people talking about it.

LMFAO You see a huge robot that can't be destroyed with missiles running at your car about to squash you, and the only thing you can do is pull out a pistol and fire at it?
Whatever happened to wonderful animated films like this? In the last 10 years, Hollywood has replaced beautiful philosophical films full of depth and meaning with crappy 3D films filled with overused slapstick, cliches and poor quality. This is definitively the best non-Pixar movie I've ever seen, and in my opinion no non-Pixar movie has been able to match it's quality and beauty.
