I think the giant didn't use his guns to blast the missile because he doesn't want to be a weapon anymore. If he gave in to that instinct, he would not be able to control what he would do. He might even destroy the town after he destroyed the missile. It's more noble to just sacrifice himself, unlike that jerk Mansley -- Screw my country I want to live!!

I remember having an obsession over this movie as a young kid back in the day, my mom took me up to the video rental store one night during summer of 1999. I happened to walk past one of the shelves that had iron giant action figures on them and I was immediately tempted to have one. I remember being fascinated by the iron giants rocket boots for some reason. Anyways, I ended up opening a box and stealing the action figure, somehow getting to the door I think, but got caught by mom eventually.

I saw this in the theater when I was 23. I only went to see it because the critics went nuts over it.

It was one of the few movies that I actually gave a standing ovation to. More movies need to be made like this. Great storyline, some humor, all heart.

I'll be seventy and I'll still enjoy this timeless masterpiece.

Whatever happened to wonderful animated films like this? In the last 10 years, Hollywood has replaced beautiful philosophical films full of depth and meaning with crappy 3D films filled with overused slapstick, cliches and poor quality. This is definitively the best non-Pixar movie I've ever seen, and in my opinion no non-Pixar movie has been able to match it's quality and beauty.
