In science; it's called the Chaos Theory or/and Bifurcation theory. a bifurcation occurs when a small smooth change made to the parameter values (the bifurcation parameters) of a system causes a sudden 'qualitative' or topological change in its behavior.
that's not a reversing prop, that's the spinning of the blades meshing with the frames on the camera which is normally 30fps. In short terms, it's an optical illusion
