  • It's kind of a joke to call a Apple device a media center.

Due to Apple's obsession with wanting people to buy media off itunes, Apple is doing it's best not support Blu-ray.

I don't know about other people, but movies streamed from the Internet looks and sounds terrible compared to a Blu-ray disc. Blu-ray discs are more then 5x the data rate of a 1080p Internet stream, so I would much rather Steve allows us to Macs with Blu-ray then force us to use itunes.

  • Hey, Nice video, I just got my new mac mini. I have a Vizio HDTV, I bought all the cables that I thought I needed, Optical toslink, HD to Mini-DVI... The video its amazing quality, but I cant get no sound. I Connected the optical to the tv.. It automatic blocks my volume or audio set up... Any Help???

  • For anybody who owns one of these, I highly recommend checking out my channel which is filled with nice info for Apple Products including some free tricks and programs that you will definitely enjoy.

  • I have the mac mini connected to a Samsung 46" LCD and I'm using a cable that connects from the headphone jack in the back of the mac mini to the optical audio input on the back of the Samsung and for the life of me, I still cannot get the audio to come through the TVs own speakers. I only hear the sound from the mac mini. Any advice out there?

  • @nydavey are you using an optical cable? Either you don't have the TV set to optical in, or you don't have the mac going to digital out. Try going to system prefs and check that the output is set to built in output.

  • You need to plug it into an input that is not 'optical'

  • adjust the settings in your midi controller in the utilities folder. it should have settings pertinent to your audio out.

it works for me....I hope it works for you.....cheers

  • Sweet. This & a mac mini will be mine early next year.

After buying everything for everybody else in Dec.

  • do i nedd the analog tuner from magila? I'm sure thats not spelled right. See i'm trying to get away from my cable company. Will this solve my problems, but i need HD.Will i get all my movies channels in HD

  • no, for HD use the eyetv hybrid.

  • yeah i have the new mac mini. I'm wondering if i buy this Elgato Hybrid. What will that do? I know about the DB2. I'm askin g can i do away with my cable company, and still have HD on all channels? if i go through all this?

  • yes with the db2 it picks up the DTV signals and the hybrid is the tuner which allows the signal to be passed to the mini where as it would be scrambled or no picture without the tuner.

  • if you want movie channels you need a cable company... you can only get basic local channels for free from an antenna.

  • i have that same wallpaper xD

    interfacelift(dot)com

  • What model of mac mini is that?

  • damm i only have 1 macbook

  • windows sucks

  • Nice vid MrBit. I use TVU with my Mac Mini as an alternative to cable and it works great! I like the Media Center functions too.

  • thanks, i have an updated one coming out soon. Thanks for the TVU info. I will check them out.

  • Hey Mrbit is that Alice in chains in the background

  • vives en mexico?

eesqe vi muchas cosas en espanol

  • Im gonna get a HD TV this summer and hook it up to my Mac. This is really cool though.

  • Slash!

  • you should get a bigger tv

  • can you post what elgato plug you are using? thanks

  • Awesome! I'm jealous now. Can you post the hardware you use?

  • Is all of this service FREE? Is this like Windows Media Center? And does this come on every Mac? Is there a media center for Macs like there is for Windows that allow you to record TV shows to your hardrive

  • yes titan tv is and the HD is simply from the new DTV bands.

  • big deal. you've been able to do this for years with Windows and Linux.

  • apple just makes everything better. if they copy it from pc ( witch does not happen offen.....and is good cuz i hate pc...) or its only for mac users, its always better than pc. and the pc users get all upset and act like its no big deal...but you guys know deep down your pissed mac just one's up's you in every way....haha inguatu...dont be mad just wipe your eyes and go get a mac.

  • i love apple i have three macs

  • @strongbad73 - I’m not sure what you are talking about - the EyeTV Elgato Hybrid works for both PC and Mac. Apple doesn’t make it.

Also if you know anything about PCs, the higher end ones come with Media center built as well as a TV Tuner in most cases. Windows media center is much, much better than the software shown here. You are entitled to your opinion - however misguided it is.

  • @jwd0808 troll much? u know this from experience? iv been through 4 PC's and traded them all back and now i have 2 VERY nice mac's. unless u have spent ur own money on both computers and used both programs stop trolling. who comments on 1 year old comments anyway? i dont even remember typing it.

  • mac support play movies 1080p?

  • yup

  • if you have the right hardware and software than yes!

  • no.. it up-rezes from 1080i. read the specs.

  • hey wat kind off tv shows do u get? is it internet tv? or normal tv??

  • normal, from my antenna and satellite tv

  • when you record something can you edit the commercials?

    thanks.

  • no not when it is auto, but you can fast forward through them :|

  • why does your eyeTV menu look so cool? mine sucks ass. its pretty ugly actually. and i dont think this is b'cause i live in germany. what have you done to yours?

  • I am not sure, it came with the product.

  • nice setup!

Pretty sure Apple recommends putting other units below the mac mini because they are bad for the wifi signal.

  • nice antenna

  • eyeTV is ace. Especially with Toast 7 and 8! burn to DVD to watch on't big telly

  • im not sure, but to watch live tv, do you connect your mac mini to your satellite box through a usb?

  • the satellite box goes to my other tuner, see my first media center vid for that. thanks for the comment.

  • great video!

do you have any idea if it support the japanese digital tv standard?

  • I am not sure, elgato sells many different tuners that support HD for the varied DTT standards.

  • What eyeTV product do I need if I already have an HDTV with integrated digital tuner so that I can record live TV on my mac mini.

  • I would go with the hybrid

  • Nice little Nintendo Wii there. I have a Wii and for the life of me I can't figure out how how it beat both the PS3 and 360. I know that the Wii has less graphics then the two. But it out selling both PS3 and 360. HOW???

  • it's just funner =p alot of gamers have forgotten that the idea of playing games is to have fun.

  • i use the eyetv250 by elgato.

  • That looks pretty good. Very similar to media center.

  • cool, do you get regular cable also?

  • i never really tried to do much more, it can be expensive in resources, but I only have 512 ram on the mini

  • I've been thinking about getting eyeTV. I don't really watch TV because my TV is smaller than my LCD and I can't multitask as well when watching it (I like to multi-task during TV shows on my computer). Does it bog down the system or anything?

  • Depends on if you are recording HD or not. LOL. Hd is a huge resolution.

  • Probably won't be recording much >.>
