@ dicarlo57 idk wat u mean cuz i own a clean ass 83 delta 88 coupe that still runs wit a heart of a champ wit over 230,000 and counting. I can drive it anywhere. I wouldnt buy a ford if somebody paid me. Maybe a chrysler if it was the last thing on the lot. I love my tank boat of a car wit the pop doors and plastic interior lol!!!
My parents bought a Delta 88 new the year berore I started kindergarten and my husband and I used to borrow it from them everytime one of our cars broke down. I was about 30 when they finally gave it up. By then I had bought one of my own :)
I had a 77 and a 78 Oldsmobile 98 Regency what a beautiful car for its time. Velour Seats, had all the toys even the padded vinyl roof. I think the line started going downhill in the mid 80's, they didnt put any money into the division. R.
Are you guys nuts? Between the bum transmissions, the pop open doors and cheap plastic interiors one would have to be dull-witted to chose one of these over its competitors from Ford or Chrysler. And dont forget the trick diesel engines. It was easy to see who didnt know a damned thing about cars and was clearly a sap when he bragged about owning an Olds or G.M diesel sedan.
my aunt has a 1984 delta 88 oldsmobile brougham has 32k origianal miles and the car stopped running the year oldsmobile went out of business.........its in mint condition no damages no rust no sratches..........it has a wrong size oil pump that keeps it from running thats it.............there nice cars i love them
My Folks had an 82 Regency, the same exact color as the one @ 1:30 I learned how to drive on that beauty..I SOOO miss that car..It was like a couch on 4 wheels...
I had a 1978 98 same color as the one at 0:40 That thing was sweet!!! Great video!! I think the 77-79s were the best looking 88s and 98s that GM ever made... :)
You picked the right cars to be a fan of. Dad and I had the privilege of sitting in some of them when they were new on the lot. The dealer was next to our house.
it's hard to explain to "kids" these days what it feels like to drive your couch to work. I'll take my 1984 Regency Brogham 98 over ANY new Lexus BMW or Mercedes today. Bonus- nobody tailgates you in this car.
The 1978 Olds Ninety Eight Regency was the best car we ever owned. It was a great road car. In addition to being quiet, it comfortable with all the amenities you'd want in a luxury car of that era or this. There is no car on the road today that compares to this vehicle. I was sad to see the demise of the larger cars which still had frames. Regardless of what anyone says, a car with a frame is stronger and safer. Such a car will not split in half upon impact, nor be reduced to shrapnel..
@phmike69 What people decide to do with their own cars is their own choice. If someone has a badly maintained old GM car and wants to junk it thats their own damn choice. Dont blame the President.
He'll yeah keep the oldsmobiles on the road I'm 15 and I just bought an oldsmobile delta 88 royal brougham L.S. And I love that car I wouldn't give it up for the world
@revchev311 - Very nice! I just bought one myself, and I love it to death. It needs some work, but that's one good old American car. I wish the company was still in business..
Nice job! Ive also always been a fan of these Ninety Eights. But GM started fucking up by the late seventies with rusty bumpers, dash ratttles and squeaks, and those dam rusty rear bumpers. I know, my dad had a 79 Delta. On top of that I just found out today that the one year only grille they put on the 1980 Regency, is the eaxect same one as on the '85 Deltas!! Not the first time Ive noticed GM "recycling" old parts!
My dad had a olds Ninety Eight when he worked for Zacky, it was his company car, it was smoth quiet, ride and big inside, I was a Tod when he had that car.
I love these cars; owned several. However the important thing to remember is the 77-84 Olds 98 perfectly represents the middle class social democratic 'liberal' unionized vision of america. It has been destroyed not by any chance event but on purpose by our masters, and all americans but that very wealthy elite are far worse off for it. Can we do anything about it? Probably not, but the fact that unions for most and Olds 98s once existed gives one hope..
Nothing built today matches the Style, reliability and durability of the Full Size Rear drive Oldsmobiles and Buicks from 1968-1985. Now Olds is dead, and Buick might as well be. RIP Oldsmobile!
My first car was an 1983 Delta88 and I drove that car from 1997 to 2002. It was a wonderfull old sedan that drove like a dream untill some shit heads tried to steal it when it was for sale at the end of my driveway.
i had a 77 delta 88 a 84 98 now 1 got a 1976 delta 88 bought it from some old peolple. it had 13000 original miles it not as clean as it use 2 be but it still turn heads
It's too bad that Oldsmobile was canned in '03. It was probably the most innovative division of GM. Another issue is that GM should not have converted all their cars to FWD. Most of their repeat customers bought these cars because they were rear wheel drive and had soft rides. People who like FWD and stiff rides would never bother with a FWD GM car. They buy imports. GM lost alot of customers by trying to copy Japanese and European styling and road feel.
I got a 1978 olds nine-eight coupe I just bought does anyone know where to get a manual an parts anyone know the value of the car someone offered 10,000 wonder if I should sell it luv, luv,luv this car
Im gonna guess that you were born in 85, and have never had the PLEASURE in riding in a REAL GM car! You cant even compare a Camry to these cars, theyre totally different animals!
I really liked that car. But it was acting its age. Even the mechanic who kept it on the road for most of the 20 years I owned it (he is a retired Oldsmobile dealership mechanic) said it was time.
I could have spent a huge amount of money to have the car completely restored, but I just didn't want to go that route.
My new car (2008 Buick Lucerne CXL) is quite a nice car. I know it won't last 28 years, but I hope to keep it around for a while.
In 1988, my aunt gave me her 1980 Delta 88 Royale (less than 25k on it at the time). I purchased the color keyed rims and the mirror for the passenger door.
I had to let it go this past September because the crossover pipe flanges rotted out and my mechanic (who worked for many years on the car from when he was at the local Oldsmobile dealership) could not find a replacement pipe.
The day before I let it go, I drove to my aunt's house and took several pics of her with her favorite car.
Not that it matters now but why didnt you put dual exhaust on it? Everyone that I know with a 88 or 98 puts duals on them including me. I also pulled the 307 out and put a 403 and 400 trans. The difference is like night and day.
Between 12MPG and 15MPG City, and Between 17 and 24MPG highway. The 350 diesel was good for upwards of 28 MPG highway, but that motor was a gutless piece of crap.
These are nice cars. When GM Downsized them for 85, they just weren't the same. I believe they only came with a V-6, the back seat was cramped and the styling wasn't that great.
Great cars, had two Regencys--a '77 and a '78. Gave both to my dad and he's still driving the '78. I don't think that car will ever die and is still as comfy as ever. Sticker price $10,192 ! Had an '87 Regency, too. Nice car, not quite the same tho.
When I was a kid we my mom had a 78 Regency with factory 403 engine. Til she got hit by a drunk driver in 89 and totaled it. So then we got an 84 regency, had it til 99 then sold it to my uncle with almost 300,000mi on it he had it for another year til the body finally went to hell and the door handles fell off LOL! Honestly, I never had the desire to modify it. Any work that was done kept the car pretty much the way it was when my aunt drove it off the lot.
The rims I added were the uncommon 15" version that was made for the Delta 88, not the very common 14" rims used on the Cutlass/Cutlass Supreme.
