@faxchase You are correct. God came as Jesus Christ and paid the penalty for our sins 2000 years ago. Because He has forgiven us through His sacrifice, we turn from our sins and live for Him. His crucifixion and resurrection 2000 years ago is not a license to sin, but is our motivation to live for HIm.
