You are right. It didn't happen. What actually happened was Kissinger urged Nixon to negotiate with Mao to open some American branches of the famous Wong Brothers Chinese Laundry chain. They had a killer slogan: "Two Wongs Can Make it White!"

I became familiar with some of these tracks from Civilisation 4 soundtrack on the pc. The computer seems to have a knack of picking appropriate times for the right soundtracks.

When i first heard it I was playing as a dynamic communist state that was under rapid modernisations towards 20th century tech, when i was attacked by two allied democracies who caught me kind of off guard but their attack was halted at my capital and this suddenly came on at the climax of the battle. pretty awesome :)

Yes, the whole John Adams/Phillip Glass suite in the modern era suits the game really well. Excellent choice on the designers' part.

I don't usually go in for minimalist composers, but i've gotta say, Adams gets a LOT out of the same five notes. Personally, I like 'The Chairman Dances' and 'Palestinian Chorus'(?) if you want to hear more of his stuff.

It was a song from Koyaanisqatsi by Philip Glass called Pruit Igoe that was in GTA4, not this.

They sound similar though.
