@agibbs98, I could say that I was ex-infantry guard at the palace, does that make me so? No it doesn't, I honestly can tell you the weapons are always, no matter what day, the weapon is loaded, they do not have a bullet in the chamber but they are loaded.

The shoes also have hugely deep toes, so that they can wiggle their toes to keep circulation going and dont faint. Imagine trying to march in shoes with duble the height

Aye, I've stood in attention (presenting arms) with a FAL for only 15 minutes, and that's already exhausting. Imagine what it would be like to stand for a couple of hours. Luckily they get to walk a bit from time to time to loosen the muscles.
I would've loved to have had the C7 that day, I would've held out longer than 15 minutes aswell (luckily we didn't have to stay longer). But I agree the FAL is shit when it comes to ceremonies, way too heavy.
The FAL weight 8.8 to 9.8 lb whereas the Diemaco C7 weighs in at only 7.2lbs. That's considerably lighter and definately helps keeping the rifle up in some poses. Fortunately we don't have to carry the bajonet and ammo on it aswell, although the bajonet would make it look a lot better. The 2 lb difference just makes you last that bit longer.

They slip all the time because the shoe have metal studs on them and when they stamp their foot down on the smooth stone it very slipery

The shoes also have hugely deep toes, so that they can wiggle their toes to keep circulation going and dont faint. Imagine trying to march in shoes with duble the height

Aye, I've stood in attention (presenting arms) with a FAL for only 15 minutes, and that's already exhausting. Imagine what it would be like to stand for a couple of hours. Luckily they get to walk a bit from time to time to loosen the muscles.

I would've loved to have had the C7 that day, I would've held out longer than 15 minutes aswell (luckily we didn't have to stay longer). But I agree the FAL is shit when it comes to ceremonies, way too heavy.

why is the FAL so heavy?
Just take all the unnessacary parts of the FAL such at the Bayonet, perhaps replace the ammo with a lighter calibar.
But you are the expert, so pray tell, which rifle would you prefer for doing duty such as that?

The FAL weight 8.8 to 9.8 lb whereas the Diemaco C7 weighs in at only 7.2lbs. That's considerably lighter and definately helps keeping the rifle up in some poses. Fortunately we don't have to carry the bajonet and ammo on it aswell, although the bajonet would make it look a lot better. The 2 lb difference just makes you last that bit longer.

The FAL fires the 7.62x51mm NATO round, which packs more punch than the 5.56x45, that makes the rifle heavier too.
Also, I don't mean to say I'm an expert :)

just to add to staticE's point.
every gram of weight makes a difference when you are at present arms for a LONG time. i had bolt,empty mag and bayonet fixed.
i prefer the C7 as a battle rifle. C1a1 is too fucking heavy and long for modern day combat.
