p: Well, this is the only irresponsible building project in China,an asymetrical tall building in a known earthquake zone. Can you see this CCTV built in Tokyo?! But I love all the other new buildings very much. They are the best ever built in the world! Namely the American architecture are terrible in the recent years! Very disappointing to me! They could not even support ONE architectural magazine!One can tell how terrible the buildings designed in the U.S.A.!---dancewu(dot)net

THE ROOF IS SUPPORTED BY THOUSANDS OF POINTS, EVENLY DISTRIBUTED THE EARTHQUAKE LOADS DOWN TO THE FOREST OF COLUMNS BELOW, ALWAYS IN A SYMMETRICAL DESIGN. DO YOU THINK THE CHINESE ARE BORING PEOPLE OR SOMETHING,THAT THEY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO DESIGN BUILDINGS THAT AWED YOU , AND EXCITED YOU ?! NO, THOSE TRADITIONAL TEMPLES AND PALACES LASTED HUNDREDS OF YEARS BUT NOT THIS CCTV !

@georgewu5 THE UPSIDE DOWN PYRAMID PAVILION IN SHANGHAI IS VERY HANDSOME AND VERY TRADITIONAL OF THE CHINESE ARCHITECTURE. THE BUILDING LOADS ARE EVENLY AND SYMMETRICALLY DISTRIBUTED TO THE COLUMNS BELOW. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE CCTV BUILDING INSTEAD. @georgewu5 THE PENDULUM OF A LUMP OF MASSIVE PROJECTION WILL SWING BACK AND FORTH DURING AN EARTHQUAKE. BUT IN MY OPINION, THE PENDULUM WOULD SWING ONE WAY BUT UNABLE TO SWING BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL SHAPE. When Frank Lloyd Wright designed Imperial Hotel in Tokyo,he used the Chinese traditional symmetrical design, with a very thick concrete "bath-tub" foundation, then brought the reinforcing bars up to the second floor of a 3 story low building with horizontal expansion joints at every 30 feet!(I rented a room there in 1963). It survived the earthquake! I think this building is going to fall down even the building was filled with solid steel because it is an asymmetrical design!---dancewu(dot)net
