  • didn't expected to see your face for 2 minutes .... disappointing.

  • he has the type of face you just wanna punch randomly

  • ROFL

  • ROFL! ME TO!

  • Ok, we accept that this is a radio style show. :) Chris is very sympathetic, and much talented as a speaker, especially if you watch the shows with Brian as a duet. I agree that he should analyse Fedora 10 more in depth, and he did not in this video, and that he had also to show the screenshots from Fedora. I hope that there would be better presentations in the future, because if you watch his other presentation of openSUSE, it's a more analytical one.

  • @guidold88

OMFG, YES....THATS WHY I WATCH THIS BECAUSE I LOVE LOOKING AT HIS FUCKED UP FACE

  • This dude should stop talking and start showing linux. Now i doubt he even has a PS3. LOL

  • Instead of showing your **** face talking all the fucking time, you really should show the OS and show us while describing what we see..

  • Is anybody else that's watching this video running Fedora?

I am. But there's no sound. And when when I double-click on the video to switch to full screen mode, the video starts playing slow.

And those are just the problems I'm having here on YouTube; I would exceed the character count if I were to list all the problems system-wide.

I tried having an open mind and seeing what all the fanboys were on to, but I've had enough. I'm trying Windows 7 next week.

  • Im running Fedora 11 right now and it works PERFECTLY fine.... Never had any sound problems on this computer. It kinda helps to install flash but then again i would assume you already did that if you can actually click on it so....

apparently your comp fails.... Ive never had such a problem on Fedora (Linux user since May09)

  • You can install flash manually bu putting that libflash in the plugins directory of the browser and inside an other directory called /usr/lib/flash something like this, and it works, the story is that flash 10 made things enough confused, because it's incompatible, this happens also in Windows.

  • @hrbear well for 32-bit all you need to do is install the yum repo file and then yum install flash-plugin :/.... 64-bit is a pain overall at this point though...

  • Personally, I use windows. But the Linux people are right about some stuff. For instance, Linux pwns at the fact that it's free and *in some cases* got less errors, also from what I've heard you're less likely to get any of your documents deleted or your drive full of viruses. But very, very, very few drivers and bios and what not is not Linux compatible. It's a huge struggle for just a hundred different groups and Linux platforms to config all those things by themselves...

  • You are not alone (I am running Fedora 10).

  • GNU/Linux FTW.

  • For some reason, when it comes to my installation, Fedora 10 stands for "10 mins to boot up and 10 mins to browse".

Granted, I have a minimal amount of RAM, 192mb, but Ubuntu both boot up and ran just fine on my machine.

I only tried installing Fedora to see what all the rage was about. The graphical portion of the installation shown here wouldn't work, but at least it said why: because of the low RAM.

  • you really need to upgrade your ram

  • Fedora 11 has a focus feature of faster boot up time; faster than Ubuntu 9.04, in fact.

  • help someone get that catipillar off of his face!

  • Im on Ubuntu 9.04

Im building a new computer for my business and im planniing to run Fedora 10 on it

  • PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!

i need to make a yum.conf file in my server, but im a total noob!! please help me!

i need to build one that acts accordingly to this command in the ssh:

    "yum install boost-devel gcc-c++ mysql-devel subversion"

    [for Redhat Linux]

please someone walk me through this to help me make it, i have no idea what im doing! im desperate!! thanks in advance.. ill make it up to you somehow!!

  • I like these guys, but I was thinking, if they could get a really attractive girl to say everything for them and be on cam, that would be way better, like the hotforwords chick. Yeah.

  • could you remove this objet covering your mouth??? really disturbing

  • its his mic you dip-shit

  • it doesnt have to be that close. ==

  • Fedora for the enterprise? Well I'm not sure....

  • I have to agree as well. Ubuntu has crashed on me several times, using several version of ubuntu. 9.04, 8.10, and 8.04. They seemed a bit buggy, or certain things wouldn't work. This is including all the updates. I even had one of them reboot my PC without warning, and I have a relatively new laptop with core 2 duo processor, and 2 GB of ram.

It's still responds better than windows, but I dont trust ubuntu because of that. It's not stable enough for me. I'm going to try fedora next.

  • Fedora is may more bleeding-edge that ubuntu. If ubuntu is too unstable for you, consider to try debian or centos. ( I actually switched from fedora to ubuntu becase the later is more stable on my machine)

  • WTF??

the name of the video if

    FEDORA 10

    or

MY fuck3r face in a stupid microfon ¬¬

  • calla cabron

  • to be honest i wanted to see fedora with you talking on the background not see your face and few pic :s this is kinda crap review 'sry'

  • Has anyone put it on a Compaq Armada M700?

  • Linux is soooo much better than windows, if it had all the support for windows based programs, no doubt i would only be using linux! At school, we have some computers using maybe 7 minutes to start and log in to win. with linux, actually im using slax it uses 1 min max. fedora also looks interesting.

  • Fedora is absolute JUNK. Ubuntu and other distros totally own it. When I booted Fedora it took 10 minutes to boot. Ubuntu only took 3 minutes. Also Fedora only has about half of the programs ubuntu does. Also Fedora crashes, when I tried to enable desktop effects Fedora went to a white screen and froze up.

  • Ubuntu crashes as well. I didn't tried fedora, but Ubuntu disappointed me. I had great hopes, but after I tried original CD's on 3 different computers, and had Ubuntu simply crash when I tried to use more applications at once, or when I was trying to change desktop, or if I tried to make the full update.... so they still have to work on ubuntu too.

  • Totallt agree. Ubuntu disapponted me too. I wanted something better looking than boring Windows, but after struggling for several days and buying a brand new video card, I could never use the special visual effects without crashing.

  • You can't enable 3D effects on the live CD because you can't install drivers on the live CD, not even make any upgrade.

A live CD is a read only media, don't ever evaluate a distribution based on what happened to you using a live CD.

Unlike what some jerks say here on youtube, using live CDs or virtual machines is not the way to go.

I would love windows to have a live CD, it would be really funny :D

  • Also, Live CDs need to probe your hardware each time they boot, and that is a lengthly process. That is one of the reasons why you just can't evaluate a system based on what you experienced using a live CD.

  • Nope. I went way further than live CD, and nothing worked.

  • fedora 10 is incredible OS ,,, God bless u guys ,,,

  • In Microsoft's defense, windows Vista takes nowhere near as long as XP to install-but I agree with you about the price. :(

  • i loves me some good linux distros....yes i do......

  • love it THANKS!

  • I don't get that nice login screen I saw there. Mine is a lot more simple. How do I get the login screen I saw there?

  • What desktop are you using?

  • If you mean what desktop environment he is using, I believe it's GNOME. Looks that way, anyway.

  • I know the vid is using Gnome, the guy who asked why his login doesn't look like that is who i asked.

  • I believe it is GNOME. Anyway, since asking that question, I have found out that I need a feature which is only available in KDE. I will get KDE at some point.

  • Lol. Okay.

  • kde is the desktop you get if you want to have people say 'wow what is that? is that a mac? it looks amazing'

  • I downloaded Fedora to give it a try and iit was pretty good. As a Debian user it took a little while to get used to rpm, but once I did it's pretty nice. Yum is slow as hell though. Installing the right drivers for my video card and sound card wasn't too difficult. I couldn't figure out why my cpu was getting so hot just doing regular web tasks though. Fedora is a little more cutting edge than bleeding edge in terms of software. Overall I liked it but I think I'll stick with Debian and Ubuntu.

  • i am running opensuse 11.1 and works fine. This one looks nice, maybe someday i'll try it

  • I'm running Fedora now, and it's ok, I didn't like Ubuntu, SuSE 11.1 is very nice, lots of bells and whistles to start, fedora doesn't have many so I'm gonna be installing and configuring a fair bit :-(

  • I'm gonna try out Fedora, I'm getting sick of Microsoft. I think it's time for some change.

  • i would recommend starting out with ubuntu

  • yea ubuntu is nice

  • Whats wrong with Windows? I notice a lot of persons like to say Microsoft is this and that without any meaningful justification. What do you have against the Company or Software? Windows is easy to install, very compatible with existing apps and devices. And don't say anything negative about Vista, blame early negative reviews on early crappy hardware that came preloaded with a OS designed for more than 512 MBs of RAM.

  • I do use Windows, but I prefer my Linux boxes and my Macs because they do everything I want already. I'm not a hardcore gamer and mostly I use my machines for graphic design and coding. If a particular Windows app isn't available there's a freeware alternative that's at least as good or better. It really doesn't matter to me that Vista can run every piece of shovelware all the way back to 1995. It doesn't offer any compelling features that would make me want to switch.

  • What's wrong with windows? Well, the fact that it takes so long to install. And, it's so fricken expensive. On top of that, some of the updates allow them access to your computer. I like my privacy. Windows is prone to viruses, and key loggers. And they practically have a monopoly on the operating system. Should I go on?

  • Windows is just like Zulnic said. It is a monopoly. I have a dual-boot on my system with Linux and Windows currently. Only reason I still use Windows is due to the fact that most games now only run on Windows or can't fully run on Linux. If Linux became even more popular and joined the big dogs it would probably own Windows.

  • Linux is getting there though. 30 mil users and rising.

  • psh, linux mint baby

  • Ooh. the Realtek 8139c onboard Ethernet network adapter gives a lot of angst but it isn't half bad once you got it figured it out.

  • i use fedora on VPC, it's brilliant for testing things, altho i think i might buy a windows xp iso...

  • What i hate in linux is setting up wireless. On my FC4 PC make keeps failing continuously.

  • Did you tried later version? My FC6 works well. But the fedora 8 failed me during the install. So I move to ubuntu. Seems I am not the only one has this problem. Better off with live cd install.

  • is ubuntu better?

  • Great video.

  • I know i'm a noob but how do you make the F10 login screen like the one at 2:07 ?

  • cd /boot/grub

    edit file grub.conf

    and add vga=0x318

like this kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.27.9-159.fc10.i686 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet vga=0x318

(thats depend of your graphic card but should work,

  • i'll give it a try thanx

  • i have ubuntu 8.10, but ill try this one when i can

  • I can't install fedora because of a gray screen caused my fucking ati card.. FUCK ATI..

  • ati is just a piece of shit company. fuck amd and ati

  • Hi, I don't know much about Linux, so could you please help me understand the difference between Debian and RPM based Linux and could you suggest a good Debian based distro (not Ubuntu because it doesn't work on my computer)? Thank you.

  • RPMs are easier and more efficient also, there quicker. We are the red hat package management system. resistance is futile. you will be assimilated.

  • random programmer you must be an idiot if you think that RPMs are better then DEB packages lol. you are definatly a red hat/fedora fan boy. the linux community agrees with me that rpms are a pain in the ass. I want you to try this for me go install a fresh copy of fedora 10 then a fresh copy of ubuntu; on fedora I want you to download any rpm package without yum disconnect from the internet and try to install it, do the same on ubuntu with a deb pack I'd bet that fedora cant install shit lol

  • AHAHAHA! well i remember trying to install a few deb packages on ubuntu 8.10, all i got was dependency after dependency after dependency, and there install tools aren't very efficient either. im using fedora 10 now same package, (obviously in rpm format) installed fine no dependency problems. and for the record, i hate ubuntu (not debian or knoppix or other deb distros just ubuntu).

anyway, who are you to represent the entire linux community!

    (btw the package was Kdevelop)

  • Its called dependency hell.

  • I doubt preferences of RPM versus DEB provides an accurate measure of intelligence.

However, I do prefer DEB over RPM despite being a Fedora user.

  • what's vary broken?? have you ever used it??? I tried ubuntu 8.10 and fedora 10, ubuntu chrashed 3 times even after uppgrading, ubuntu suks, deb is better only for newbbie because they can find lots of programs pre-kooked ready to install, more tha n rpm's.

But fedora is faster of any debian based distro i ever tried, and more stable also (even debian crashes sometimes, never had one in fedora...)

Oh, do you know Plymouth will be default in ubuntu 9.10 (fedora will be fedora 12) ?

  • @ssjmysticgohan: Both Ubuntu and Fedora suck, IMO. I tried both and they were pretty buggy -- Ubuntu a little more than Fedora. Ubuntu is based on the UNSTABLE version of Debian, so I wouldn't brag about that too much. I'm an openSUSE fan boy, BTW. They use RPMs like Fedora, but honestly deb and RPM both handle dependencies about the same, in my experience.

  • If Ubuntu sucks then why is it that it;s the No. 1 Linux Desktop according Linux distro watch? I tried OpenSuse and I think it is very solid. But I like Ubuntu more because of its community. Lots of how to's in the ubuntu forums and most importantly newbie friendly.

  • Only ubuntu fanboys use distrowatch rankings to try and convince others & themselves that ubuntu is the best.

Distrowatch rankings are highly unreliable, even the Distrowatch people say this. The only reason ubuntu got to #1 in the first place was because there was a concentrated effort by ubuntu sites around the world to push it to the top. That's a fact, check out DWW sometime in 2005. Only people that don't have their heads buried in the sand know this to be true..

  • fedora 10 gets me really angry, i love fedora but it simply doesn's start on my laptop!

  • Thats not just a fedora bug if you have a phoenix bios.

  • i nice review, i was just wondering it this wou;d be a nice linux os 2 have on the ps3 as i would me using it half of the time i'm on the ps3?

  • I think the latest version of Fedora you can install on the PS3 is Fedora 8. You might check out Yellow Dog Linux, it is built for the PS3

  • Thank you for the review. It was exactly what I was looking for.

    -Tres

  • this guy on my school is a developer of fedora in class

  • Now that you guys are turning more to You Tube, you should try to improve visually with a better "studio". somewhere with a better light, more space and maybe a monitor behind you. Sometimes it looks as if you were locked in a cage. 2 minutes for a review is way too short.

  • This video is under-rated.

  • Good review.. Wish it was longer with more detail and in OS examples of some of the new features.. over all tho good summary.

  • Don't really mind what the distro is. Fedora, ubuntu, suse, pclinuxos. because at the heart, they are still linux, each new distro still will be using the latest kernel release after all. I had used windows, ubuntu, xubuntu, opensuse, pclinuxos, puppy, fedora, mint, and knoppix. All I can say is that, it is dependent on the user itself. And lastly, Fedora10 really is a great release. Congratulation!!!

  • Almost true..i stay awan from suse though after them jumping into bed with ms

  • hahah...why is one screenshot in german?

  • Randomly grabbed it to illustrate the app/feature. A lot of times once recording is started I'll realize I needed a scrangrab that I did not get, Google Image search is my friend!

  • It would be nice if it worked with the proprietary ATI driver. This review was a pleasure without Bryan's intense unbalanced negativity.

  • what does it do?

  • breath.... relax...

    inhale... exhale...

  • I don't know why people get so entrenched and defensive about distros. I'm downloading this to test it right now! I'm also currently running LinuxMint6.0, Kubuntu8.10 KDE 4.17, UbuntuEEE8.04, Mandriva 2009, Opensuse11.0 KDE 3.59 and soon Fedora! I love that we have so many choices!

  • I still like Ubuntu.

  • Sorry, Jawn, anything that uses RPM just SUCKs. Ubuntu is great because it is based on Debian. Opensolaris is a joke when it comes to desktop. and mac, well, i won't even get there

  • The argument that deb is in some way better then rpm is getting pretty old now, and that a distro would suck because of the using rpm is just lame.

  • LINUX will never be able to compete large scale (over 50%) for the average-user-desktop-market, until package management is standardized across all distribs.

  • thats because people are afraid to switch from win/mac

  • ubuntu is soo overrated! fedora and opensuse are the best linux distros for the desktop IMO, but I am a opensolaris,pc-bsd and mac guy at heart.

  • Pretty cool, but I shall stick with Ubuntu 8.10 AMB64 version.

  • i dont really care wat it looks like, all linux default theme looks like crap to me, but i use my artistic eyes to create something new, not a biggie, i couldn't care less about the boot up screen process, who on earth are gonna sit there and watch the bar getting fill up from side to side? functionality is key, if it looks great, and is cluttered and hard to get to programs and such, dont put it there. hopefully fedora is both, which is really ard to achieve, but hey ubuntu did it, so will try

  • Good review guys.

  • Loving these little reviews, you guys should fill up these nice new big wide screen youtube boxes now! :D keep up the great work!
