I am not a casual gamer, but to give you an idea of my play, I have Fallout 3 in the system now. I wanan RPG for my PSPa nd I have Crisis Core. what could you recomend that isn't hard to pick up?
I got my Valkyrie Profile Lenneth used on gamestop and when I got it I played like 6 hours strait and when I was like 10 hours in I realised that you were suposed to send characters up to Valhall -.- so I had to start over (I say valhall, Ragnarök and Oden cuz thats the real names of it trust me I'm swedish so I know)
can you tell me of a RPG which has a character class selection so you use one character, not a team and your character at the start and you choose class like ranged, healer, tank ect, you get the idea i don't mind battles being turned based or like the untold legends where you have different skills along those lines
fallout is an RPG with guns so its almost all about ranged weapons but oblivion is with swords and axes and all that kinds of stuff and is on 1rst person and 3rd person also its larger than fallout =D
@7tacman7 LOL American RPG games use to be open, where you choose your way, your class, your role, etc. and contain a narrative different from the one you could find in a movie. Japanese RPG games use to give you predefined characters with predefined personalities and motivations, and the story resolves like a movie.
Taking all this in consideration and from what you say, i reckon you'd probably like american RPG.
@7tacman7 Not a lot, really, since i'm not a great fan of american RPGs. However, I found The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to be one of the best games I had ever played. It's just amazing. From the makers of Oblivion, you also have Fallout 3, although is set in a postapocalyptic world. There's also Dragon Age and Demon's Souls. Both are really acclaimed, but I ignore how purist to the genre they are. DS, from what I've heard, is a very difficult game, so I guess it isn't recommended to everyone.
@7tacman7 I think most american RPGs are ported from consoles to PC (sometimes the opposite), so you should look for those games i mentioned earlier in PC, specially Oblivion (it's amaaaaaaaazing)
3)patapon 1/2/3 (there are 3 editions) Patapon 3 is the best one..in all of then you strike rythms and have an army (not big in patapon- you and 3 other guys- without them it would be too hard) and you can lelel your hero up and unlock new clases, get new items new uniqe skills and it's just a game you need to try out!
4)Phantasy star portable 2- not the best one, but still can be good.
@7tacman7 Or you could just try out the monster hunter sereies-great graphics, many items, lots of quests, classes and a pet.. monster hunter 3rd just went out, i tested the chinease version and i can say that it is probably the best game on the psp causse of the quests, weapons (there are LOTS of weapon types!!) and four (or five :P) pets to choose. you HAVEEEEE to try this game out before you die xD Id dowload a patched monster hunter 3rd (english patch )
Final Fantasy Tactics was the WORST the only great part of it was the cutscene the gameplay sucks... And why Star Ocean didnt win, Ygrra Union SUCKS, it looks like a GBA game. (BTW Final Fantasy Crisis Core is a VERY EASY game to finish and it's boring, the fights are BORING!!!, if I were to choose the finalist it would be Valkyrie Profile:Lenneth and Star Ocean:First Departure and the winner should be STAR OCEAN:FIRST DEPARTURE!!!!
@matolisora Well, I can understand why they didn't make it to the final round, since both are remakes, so if you were to find the best PSP-exclusive RPG, then those would be taken out of the count. But he really didn't have that many RPG's in the mix, there are many RPGs that are better than Crisis Core.
Actually, Yggdra Union is a remake too. A couple years before the PSP release, it was on GBA.
Also, you should try out the Disgaea games. The first two games in the series got ported from PS2 to PSP, and Disgaea 3 is out on PS3, if that matters to you. Crazy, over the top Strategy RPGs, great graphics, gameplay, characters, etc. Rivals FF Tactics for best SRPG ever. Matter of opinion, I suppose.

we are getting mixed up here, I never said that you said Zelda was an RPG, but amongst gamers there are a lot that believe Zelda is an RPG and almost no one would say that the new Castlevania games are not in fact RPGs.

The art style for riviera was horrible, who ever made that game was to lazy to make actual character models. Disgea 1 was way to long and caused me to get stuck to often so I didnt even play 2 but its still a good game.
I didn't see tales of the world in that collection... It's a pretty fun game! I'm not a fan of the "tales" series though this game was soooooooooooo hecka fun.
Well, depending on your style of RPG. I happen to play them, because i like the style of gameplay. Leveling 6 individual things that can be made stronger that you can teach new moves and you can swap out for one of like 500 more. Theres a lot of chance to customize your party there.
Dude how can you eliminate an RPG for being long? RPGs are meant to be long, hell 30 hours is rather short for an RPG. I've just recently beat the main story of brave story at 23:45 minutes of gameplay. It's a really good game but i wish it was longer like FF8 was, that game took me 70+ hours to beat.

ya you know their really ahrd until you've figured them out, I started actually finnishing them myself without using a walkthrough or video guide, after playing Zelda for 7 years. Now I'm replaying all the DS versions and some GC.
Its hard to belive you did not use walkthrough anything to best those zelda games becosue for me there very hard I get stuck alot its kind of confusing and alot of hiding stuff you have to do that they wont tell you in the game in a sence its a nice game but very hard for a guy like me but I still loved it that why four swords my fav :)

Disgaea has a huge fanbase compared to most games.
I mostly just don't like how the game's predecessor, La Pucelle, gets absolutely no credit for making Disgaea possible.
I prefer La Pucelle over Disgaea.

I don't bother with platformers, unless it is Sonic or Mario(or Castlevania, since it is now a rpg series)

But if you think like that, then I could just call Final Fantasy-series adventure-games, since they have a lot of those elements in it. Well, I would really like to see what pure RPG you like the most (with Pure I mean like the FF-series, those that mainly are RPG, and not like Action-RPG or a game with just RPG elements.)

we are getting mixed up here, I never said that you said Zelda was an RPG, but amongst gamers there are a lot that believe Zelda is an RPG and almost no one would say that the new Castlevania games are not in fact RPGs.
I personally think people are stupid if they think Zelda is an RPG.
My favorite RPG series of all time is Dragon Quest and NO ONE can say that the first 8 Dragon Quest games weren't RPGs, that is as pure as it gets.

The art style for riviera was horrible, who ever made that game was to lazy to make actual character models. Disgea 1 was way to long and caused me to get stuck to often so I didnt even play 2 but its still a good game.

Well, depending on your style of RPG. I happen to play them, because i like the style of gameplay. Leveling 6 individual things that can be made stronger that you can teach new moves and you can swap out for one of like 500 more. Theres a lot of chance to customize your party there.

Dude how can you eliminate an RPG for being long? RPGs are meant to be long, hell 30 hours is rather short for an RPG. I've just recently beat the main story of brave story at 23:45 minutes of gameplay. It's a really good game but i wish it was longer like FF8 was, that game took me 70+ hours to beat.

It's not the exploring and talking that is bad bout Crisis Core...its the whole thing about repetitive moves...uncontrollable special attacks...and just the fact that there's not much appearance costumization, if any...

yeah your right about that but still crisis core is not a true RPG game and in zelda you can level up and zelda is boring dont like it the SNES version was to short but anyway a real RPG game has all the elements like breat of fire and golden sun and Securite of Mana not this action type RPG game that why alot of people just wont like it the action is awsome but still wont replace those RPG games we know and love FFT owneds :)

:P yeah I know the truth is I suck at zelda games the snes version was to short the only version I liked was zelda four swords and thats becouse it had multiplayer on it so we played coop and gave up on the last boss but dude try golden sun its my fav RPG game and the DS version is coming out in 2010 cant wait :)
