The point of raising the debt ceiling was to prevent the country from shutting down from borrowing money, something that has been done over and over and never had any opposition until now. What we need to do now is to not make enormous cuts in the budget, which would cripple the government, but raise taxes on the 1% of people who own 42% of the country's wealth.

Cutting taxes frees up money so that the economy can use it. if the government isn't spending obscene amounts on things it shouldn't be providing it won't need to borrow money to get by. Unnecessary regulations also help to strangle small businesses all over the country. these small businesses are what provide most of the jobs in the country.
