Hi! the DLSU Chorale will be having their 24th anniversary concert entitled Timeless on September 24, 2011, 7:30 pm @ the Phliam Life Auditorium U.N Ave Manila. Ticket costs Php200 and available on the day itself.
I wish they'll join the World choir games. We already won the 4th world choir games in China, after that I don't know if we competed again...If we already bagged the 2nd European grand prix, we can bag the second Olympic trophy. And hope it will serve as an inspiration for our fellow Filipinos to be inclined in chorale music.
@JeuxRAE hehe. You know, the funny thing is we haven't really sent a truly elite choir to the world choir games. It's like we think that that competition isn't really an elite competition yet so why bother sending our best. Personally, I think the world choir games isn't at that elite level yet but they're really pushing it and promoting it. For now I don't have a problem with us sending our tier 2 choirs to the games. But in due time I'd like to see us bag every major award in that competition.

@jay061285 That's a pre-recorded arrangement, in other words a CD. In this arrangement, or interpretation, there's an extra beat or a "fermata" at the end of each section which threw the singers off. Maybe the festival committee acquired it from the local Phil. Embassy or the Madz submitted it, no idea. But wherever that recording came from the, the Madz should've been given an opportunity to get familiar with that particular version and been made aware of this kind of interpretation.

If that so the party/ies who submitted that CD must correct that version, because it can be used in future occasions like this one, and the story will repeat itself. Dapat pansinin din ito ng National Historical Institute (NHI) kasi Pangalan ng Bansa ang naksalalay dito.
the national anthem is no problem ---- hindi lang alam ng mga pinoy iyong rest ng original lupang hinirang... but the song rendition is still ok... they are nice people
hey it is not on the "rest" of the original notation of Lupang Hinirang, the time signature must be 4-4, a march tempo na dapat sumakto talga xa.. cge sabayan mo ung accompaniment na yun, kakanta ka sa maraming tao, tingnan ko lang kung masasabayan mo yun... cge mag-rest ka dun after nung phrases, gumawa kn ng sarili mong anthem arrangement: cguro 5:4 ung labas ng time mo..

blame it to the instrumentalist, madz knows the anthem by heart as every Filipino would. Offbeat ang accompanist. kahit ako ang sumabay, nawawala din ako. . .
pero just to comment, magaling din yung nakalaban na choir ng madz, yung cantemus choir, they sing their pieces very well, very good ang rendition nila ng sleep ni erci whitacre... yung kanta nga ng madz, yung riveder le stelle, parang nag sharp sa modulation part eh. ehehe. though the best pa rin interpretation nila. nakakuha kasi ako ng kopya ng iba sa mga kanta ng madz, yun yung naobserve ko. hehe
Just noticed something humourous near the end: onstage, the Taiwanese choir director wanted to shake Mr Carpio's hand - but he had no more free hand to offer - his hands were full holding a trophy and a platter - so she just gave him a hug instead ! Nice and classy !
You did us Pinoys proud again, Madz ! Mabuhay ! Wish we were there at the actual performance and victory announcement ! The raucous expressions of joy at the announcement of their win by the Pinoys and their supporters is so infectious ! Bravissimi !
I only wish the playing of the Lupang Hinirang by the Euro band were more faithful to the actual way the anthem is sung and performed by us Pinoys - we never sing this with those extra rest bars in the mix !
the anthem that they played had extra "bars". that's why the madz were confused. good thing, one of the supporters was near the stage to give them a signal :)

i was a member of the high school choir who representedregion 10 for the NAMCYA comeptetion way back 1990 and once we performed when the madz visited CDO. we had a technical workshop afterwards. I love their sopranos. but they are all have very nice voices. so perfect in blending. i admire them.
It just goes to show that no matter how good people say you are or how much acclaim you get...you still cry when you win a competition...local or international. So for those choirs who are just starting to mold their craft, keep it up.. no matter how hard it may seeem or how insurmountable the odds are. That's what keeps me going after all these years. And for the MADZ you make us proud every time...It may be a tad late but CONGRATULATIONS anyway!!!
The Philippine Madrigal Singers are really good... They played as a threat to European choirs. They even got suspended in this grand prix before because no European singers can beat them. Moreover, the madz are from the University of the Philippines...

And I saw in one of close up photos of the EGP certificate, it was written UNIVERSITY OF THE PHLIPPINES MADRIGAL SINGERS instead of simply Philippine Madrigal Singers.

They got suspended in the European choral grand prix because no delegate from Europe can get ahead of the UP Madz. After the suspension, they still managed to win.
Your statement is quite subjective deary. I know for the fact that the contest is open only to the grand prize winners of the six member European choral competitions in the previous year. In other words, if a choir wins the grand prize in any of the six cities' choral contests, it is eligible for then next year's GPE and a GPE winner is not allowed to compete in any international choral competition, member of the European Grand Prix Association, for two years. I'm not pure filipino too father is thai. i just wonder how much is it to hire to sing for the king? do you sing loi khratong? very very good when i hear it before when i was a young boy.especially the guitar when strumming strumming, very nice makes me smiling face.and the accent is very thai so somehow i think u are not so good now because the old lady conductor is gone but i was wrong, you sing very clean now. how you do that?

Those werenot mistakes... they were following the accompaniment which unfortunately was not faithful to the musical score of the Philippine National Anthem. That's why they appeared like catching up with the accompaniment.
Ang sarap ng balitang ito. Naiyak ako. Sa isang bansang nawalan na yata ng dangal, nakakapanumbalik ito ng pagkataong Filipino. Maraming salamat sa MADZ sa pagbabalik ng dangal.
I just saw them perform here at Towson, Maryland last Sunday. They were awesome! We were mesmerized, Pinoys & American audiences alike. Truly, the Madz are the pride of the Filipino people!

pero just to comment, magaling din yung nakalaban na choir ng madz, yung cantemus choir, they sing their pieces very well, very good ang rendition nila ng sleep ni erci whitacre... yung kanta nga ng madz, yung riveder le stelle, parang nag sharp sa modulation part eh. ehehe. though the best pa rin interpretation nila. nakakuha kasi ako ng kopya ng iba sa mga kanta ng madz, yun yung naobserve ko. hehe

Just noticed something humourous near the end: onstage, the Taiwanese choir director wanted to shake Mr Carpio's hand - but he had no more free hand to offer - his hands were full holding a trophy and a platter - so she just gave him a hug instead ! Nice and classy !

You did us Pinoys proud again, Madz ! Mabuhay ! Wish we were there at the actual performance and victory announcement ! The raucous expressions of joy at the announcement of their win by the Pinoys and their supporters is so infectious ! Bravissimi !
I only wish the playing of the Lupang Hinirang by the Euro band were more faithful to the actual way the anthem is sung and performed by us Pinoys - we never sing this with those extra rest bars in the mix !

Maswerte tayong mga pilipino... kasi taga dito ang MADZ.. any time pdeng makita at mapanood ng LIVE ang kanilang mga performance..
Maraming may gusto pero meron din naman ayaw sa MADZ.. pero isa lang ang masasabi ko.. wala pa ring tatalo sa grupong hininog ng panahon, at lalong gumagaling sa paglipas ng araw at taon.. mabuhay kayong lahat lalo na sau sir mark..

i was a member of the high school choir who representedregion 10 for the NAMCYA comeptetion way back 1990 and once we performed when the madz visited CDO. we had a technical workshop afterwards. I love their sopranos. but they are all have very nice voices. so perfect in blending. i admire them.

It just goes to show that no matter how good people say you are or how much acclaim you get...you still cry when you win a competition...local or international. So for those choirs who are just starting to mold their craft, keep it up.. no matter how hard it may seeem or how insurmountable the odds are. That's what keeps me going after all these years. And for the MADZ you make us proud every time...It may be a tad late but CONGRATULATIONS anyway!!!

The Philippine Madrigal Singers are really good... They played as a threat to European choirs. They even got suspended in this grand prix before because no European singers can beat them. Moreover, the madz are from the University of the Philippines...

If you will go their official website. the UP College of Music and Wikipedia, it says there that they are also known as the University of the Philippines Madrigal Singers.
And I saw in one of close up photos of the EGP certificate, it was written UNIVERSITY OF THE PHLIPPINES MADRIGAL SINGERS instead of simply Philippine Madrigal Singers.

UP man o hindi, talent yan ng mga taong may pagmamahal sa musika... talent ay hindi pag-aari ng isang unibersidad... Taga UP ka siguro....
Yun nga lang, maliit kung wala namang suporta ang gobyerno, nakiki associate lalo na si gloria arroyo at ang gobyerno... samantalang halos private funding ang bumubuhay sa mga trips nila..bihira nga yung libreng show sila e.. minsan lang ako nakapa nood... super galing lalo na yung "Sana'y Wala nang Wakas".

ang hirap sa mga taong katulad mo, tunetmacho, lagi kang may problema kapag masaya at proud ang ibang tao. kung malungkot ang buhay mo, huwag mo naman kaming idamay. pakiusap lang. kung may problema ka sa buhay, itago mo na lang. huwag mong ibuhos sa ibang tao ang mga frustration mo.

matagal ko nang sinubukang sabihin yun sa gobyerno, fyi. pero hindi ko ginamit ang video ng madrigals para iparating ang mensahe ko, dahil alam ko na maraming mas epektibong paraan para gawin yun, at masyadong malaki ang achievement ng madz para gamitin ko to achieve political ends. i respect your opinion, pero kung ok lang, look for a different forum for it. :)

They got suspended in the European choral grand prix because no delegate from Europe can get ahead of the UP Madz. After the suspension, they still managed to win.

Your statement is quite subjective deary. I know for the fact that the contest is open only to the grand prize winners of the six member European choral competitions in the previous year. In other words, if a choir wins the grand prize in any of the six cities' choral contests, it is eligible for then next year's GPE and a GPE winner is not allowed to compete in any international choral competition, member of the European Grand Prix Association, for two years. Correct me if I'm wrong. Peace!

I'm not pure filipino too father is thai. i just wonder how much is it to hire to sing for the king? do you sing loi khratong? very very good when i hear it before when i was a young boy.especially the guitar when strumming strumming, very nice makes me smiling face.and the accent is very thai so somehow i think u are not so good now because the old lady conductor is gone but i was wrong, you sing very clean now. how you do that?

'Hope a Madz member or alumnus/alumna can shed light on this -- I think the Madz would have represented Gorizia at the 1990 EGP had it been held. Why was it suspended?

israelcan... from an article i had read when the madz first won the EGP (1997)... the legendary batch '89 of the madz advanced to the Grand Prix but failed to garner local support in the Philippines (sponsors). eventually, their quest for the EGP was scrapped and didn't push through.
2007 could have been their 3rd EGP since they are highly favored to win in 1990.

Those werenot mistakes... they were following the accompaniment which unfortunately was not faithful to the musical score of the Philippine National Anthem. That's why they appeared like catching up with the accompaniment.
