  • Quelle classe M. Hannon. Longue vie à vous et continuez à écrire et à intérpreter d'aussi belles songs.

  • What an amazing song!

  • This song gives me hope and shivers at the same time.

  • Hannon is the best......

  • saw him in Seville Spain...he is an artist!

  • Yep, I can't sing along with this without weeping like a baby. Chokes me every time. Neil is a little master.

  • i love the shirt neil is wearing in this concert

  • @falconhead67 me too it's a shirt in liberty.

  • Comment c'est possible d'écrire de si belles chansons, qui touchent au plus profond, avec des mots si simples! Neil Hannon est un génie !

  • Divine!

  • Remarkable!

I'm indebted to you for posting this, MarTenSaa. Hopefully this DVD is still available.

    Many thanks.

  • Saw Neil at V over the summer, was a complete highlight. Sitting on the grass listening to Divine Comedy in the sun made my life :D

  • We saw Neil at manchester on Nov 9th,the gig was quite small and intimate and was simply fantastic.Neil played this song, with just the piano...and it was one of the best versions that I have ever heard. What a brilliant mind and a superb performer. Will definitely see him live again if I get the chance.

  • GENIUS

  • I think this is a truly terrific song, but I'm not sure I rate his orchestra here ... They don't sound particularly tight, for a professional ensemble, and seem a bit weak. (E.g. 0:45-1:00 is a case in point., and there's some funny dissonance going on at 1:50.) Those strings should be full of punch and bite; the opening bars should hit you in the face, not stagger uncertainly towards you. Love Neil Hannon though.

  • @AnthonyArundel That said, I wrote a string quartet part with the exact same off-beat Latin rhythm (i.e. I stole it...), and the quartet just couldn't stay together, so I guess it's an especially counter-intuitive rhythm.

  • @AnthonyArundel Completely agree. The sound is very weak on this DVD. It should have been the definitive live DVD but it falls well short.

  • Once in a while an artist comes along who writes a song that is both melodically and lyrically brilliant, Neil Hannon does this more than any other modern artist I know of, this man is so so so underated.

  • my god.. it's amazing.. makes me think even cry.. just love it:) xxxx from greece..

  • Many artists write songs that are great to listen to but few write songs that are truly moving as well. Neil Hannon is one of them. Bravo!

  • superbe

  • ça fait plaisir d'entendre un bon son orchestral bravo Neil !!!

  • Magnificent!

  • Quelle merveille, qué jodida maravilla, qué grande, fabulosa canción.

  • Under-played and under-rated.

  • bloody brilliant, feel sick i want there grrrr

  • Neil Hannon will never be worldwide huge. That's how genius he is.

  • His best?

  • maybe !!!

  • Definitely a highlight in his career, but I still believe his best song ever is "Songs Of Love".

  • I also think so! Nevertheless this music is superb!

  • absolute wonderfull...

  • amazing

  • Neil replied to a letter a wrote him :)

    I love the divine comedy

  • @CharlyXD09 :O please share some details! how did you manage that?

  • @egzit Well about 2 years ago i sent him a comic for 'Come Home Billy Bird'. He wrote back and sent me a drawing he did of Billy. :) It made me incredibly happy.

  • @CharlyXD09 Seriously? For the common fan address? That's incredibly lucky!

The drawing he sent, was it the original? I can't even imagine how happy you were.

    Did you ever write back?

  • @egzit Yeah the common fan address. It was the original, the whole letter was in his own pens ink, none of that computer and secretary nonsense. I didn't think to write back though, since i knew i was lucky to even get a reply in the first place, I guess i just didn't want to bother him again. But my brother meet him at a cricket match a couple of months after i received the letter and my bro mentioned that i'd sent him a comic for the song and he remembered it and told my brother to thank me.

  • OnBetamax's comment has made me long for a cover of that song.. it'd be amazing

  • I allways wondered witch was that "..a song I can't sing anymore".. seems to be Walker Brothers - The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine (Anymore). Great band.

  • Marvelous!

  • it's like a mini film, this song. even without a video. especially, in fact....

  • nice!!

  • My favourite song :)

  • This is a marvellous song.

  • Que grande eres Hannon !!! genio !!

  • 4:20

  • this band have never had the love they deserve but thats what happends when your so different that you can't be marketed to any easy market or genre. Fucking amazing band

  • @keflar5 great great band - can't believe they (Neil Hannon) isn't our Poet Laurate!

  • @keflar5 It doesn't help that the "band" changes every album. ;)

  • @keflar5

    agreed a thousand times over

  • A modern take on an old fashoined love story with modern lyrics.

  • wow, that girl can hit very high notes. Awesome song, they should make a music video.

  • Highlight of the DVD. What a song...

  • A true ballad!

  • It is just you.

Great song, sounds very Westend musical.

  • ooops - kindly insert an 'it' wherever needed

  • Is it just me? or is the story of all our lives. Like so many of his songs, i can't imagine how neil manages to perform them so well, (and with that certain panache), without ending up an emotional wreck - as i often do.

good to be in such discerning company..

  • This song just breaks my heart. I could drown in Neil Hannon's voice alone, but the way the orchestra builds to such a haunting climax is sublime. Gorgeous.

  • Rarely has a song caught the imagination such as this. A great emotive song and almost a hidden gem of love songs. Brilliantly sung and accompanied by a powerful backing orchestra

  • Such a beautiful sad love song.......

how to find & then loose in love.

    Lol......

  • It doesn't get any better than this!!

  • It gets no better than this, thanks for posting- amazing!

  • One of the most epic ballads ever written!!

  • Dickens meets Scott Walker meets Truffaut...feckin' perfect....
