I am now in Corpus Cristi visiting mother. When I flew out of Dulles International on 11-04-10, (I live nearby at Ashburn VA) they have those damn body scanners. I refused and requested a patdown instead.

What worries me more about airport security is that a recent Yemeni plot was discovered and foiled which revealed the total ineptitude of UK cargo checks. You might be on to something there. As far as i understand these scanners are placed when you are about to enter the airplanes and not the airport itself (correct me if I'm wrong). If the reason is t protect the passengers then they are unprotected at the airport where a bomb can kill and injure even more people than in an airplane.

But TBH, i don't care much since I'll boycot any airport that will force me to pass such a device. In other words, it's no problem for me. And i don't judge USA or so, it's your country, your choise. Not mine :)

@Jasminewynjo .I don't think the threat or technology was there in the past or not as severe as it is today. What worries me more about airport security is that a recent Yemeni plot was discovered and foiled which revealed the total ineptitude of UK cargo checks. I thought after Lockerbie the measures to stop someone checking in their luggage and fleeing or sending packages would be top priority,seems not.
Maybe these scans are just a slight of hand to reassure/divert us from the real threat.

You might be on to something there. As far as i understand these scanners are placed when you are about to enter the airplanes and not the airport itself (correct me if I'm wrong). If the reason is t protect the passengers then they are unprotected at the airport where a bomb can kill and injure even more people than in an airplane.

So I guess you are ok with a stanger looking at pics of you naked wife or daughter, or if she refuses the scan, has to go through a modified body tap down where a security guard touches your wifes breasts and pussy? I dont believe in god or believe in any religion yet i would not want my daughter or wife to get touched that way by a stanger.

@MrNodzilla I believe that full body scanners violate my privacy and my religion. (I'm Christian.) I'm confused as to what you are saying is the middle ground? If you can find me a middle ground without me showing my body or without someone touching me in certain areas of my body I'll thank you. Seriously, I'm not being sarcastic. I'm begging everyone to find something that'll solve this problem for me.

@DarkAnderebu.The only thing that will solve this intrusion of privacy is if all Muslims are banned from flying,because it's Muslims who want planes blown out of the sky.Since this will never happen and they will play the race card at every search then i don't think there will ever be a solution. But i do think that 99.9% of all passengers safety far outweighs upsetting a tiny minority,also you seem to be forgetting that customs can take anyone to one side and strip them and do searches.

@scorpion32 .I think it should be operated by someone from a medical background(maybe a nurse or something) who has been well vetted and if they call in sick etc, then it shouldn't just be used by another employee. But to dismiss this technology when airport security have the right to shake down and strip anyone they wish anyway seems crazy. Maybe you'll take some pleasure when you're plummeting towards earth that at least you didn't have to go through the mildly unpleasant security procedure.
