I had my female silver ornate for 19 years in a 55 gal with a rock ramp leading to a sunning area under a lamp. She developed a calcium deficiency when she was younger from feeding her only reptomin, I cured it by catching wild minnows in a spring-fed creek nearby and feeding them to her. I lost her earlier this year when we moved back to florida and I had to keep her in a kiddy pool for a few days. It rained one day enough to raise the water level and she climbed out. Very dissappointing.
If they were raised in fresh water, then can live in fresh water. But when you introduce them to brackish, you'd most likely have to keep them in brackish water and transfer them to fresh water 1-2 times a week for them to drink. I keep mine in fresh water only.

Do terrapins need brackish water? Or can they live in fresh water?
