NO. with solid axles you have up and down travel. with independent suspension it has up travel and very limited down travel so the tires don't have as much contact with the ground as they would with a solid axle. and i don't even get why you would take a grand cherokee rock crawling, get a wrangler for that.

Now the steep hill in the video wasn't tough, i can climb down with a 800cc car. Looking at the comments, few people seems to have tendency to not accept when a vehicle does a major makeover and comes to the market. Example, some means Jeep == WWII era.. needs to be harsh ride and boxy.. well wake up, its 20th century, economy is shaken, people want multitasking product. People dont blame jeep when they add new mechanical stuff for improvement, but complains when it also improves the comfort.

Seems thats the whole idea with Hill Decent control...To control your decent at a speed your comfortable with. You can speed up by upshifting and still not have to touch the brakes. For the people who buy this type of vehicle (I own a '11 limited), and don't intend to do serious off-roading (rock crawling), it is an excellent vehicle. I and the wife have had many Jeeps over the years, 1 CJ7, 3 wranglers, a liberty, commander and 4 Grand Cherokees . My wife has an 09 Laredo.

reguardless, that jeep is a piece of crap, when it comes to real trail situations, it wouldn't have a chance....all this video shows me is that the jeep has a simple hill decent setting, oooooh aaaaaah, its a real offroading machine, nope...it has an independent wishbone suspension, which was originally designed for race cars..... my FJ would destroy that car, hands down, no question on anything......reliability wise, i've yet to hear anything bad about it...
