I have a question about compressing the connector. My father has tried to compress the end a RG-6. Every time he does, the wiring just falls right out. I've never messed with RG-6 cables before (only CAT 5E, lol) so I didn't know what to tell him. Would you know what might have happened?
@ryudo333 Hmm. It should be really tight, typically they take some pressure to install. Are you sure it's RG-6 and not another coax like 58 or something?
@ryudo333 Very sure it's RG-6. It says it on the wire itself, and I have taken classes that required me to know what certain wires are. Sadly, they never taught us anymore than that. :/ Could the compression tool be too short? We can't really afford to mess up one more time. Granted, even if we did, we are planning to replace the wire in the future. Just not anytime soon, so we're trying to buy time.
@ryudo333 Are you sure it's compressed all the way down? It is possible that the compression tool isn't fully locking the fitting. It should take a decent amount of force. What tool and fittings are you using?
Great video. the details in your video make it over the top. I will save it to my list. I plan to make a custom made installation in my home. So, I might have to invest in the $30 stripper and the $70 compressor tools. Thanks for your help.
Great video! I think I am going to take the regular crimp tool back to Lowe's and buy me the compression tool, the 2 stage stripper, and in the kit I looked at also comes with a crimping tool as well. All for 26.00! I work for Fastenal is why I get it so cheap! Thanks!
Thank you, very informative video. Now that I know what I'm doing, I've got some supplies and tools I've got to go purchase. Great to know about this compression fitting and the various tools needed to do this project. Thank you for sharing!
Question: I recently installed an off the air antenna and purchased a compression tool kit. I am using quad shield rg6. In the directions it shows that after making your strips in the coax to not only pull back the first layer of aluminum braiding but to also pull back the first layer of foil. Does this sound correct? I am not getting the performance that I expected. I will have a cable tester in a few days and am thinking that I made an error. Any help would be great. Thx
Does the compression tool improve the quality of the connection or is it purely to ensure the compression fitting doesn't slip off the cable ?

@pvalent58 It supposedly does. I have notice less signal noise with them.

Do you keep the foil on the cable or fold it back like the braid wire

I just bought a Channellock Coax Cable Tool. I think it does the job of the ones you have there, but all in one tool. Still cost me over $30 though.

@jnoel121 Channellock makes quality tools for sure.

@NoCoFire You know, I've seen the same thing in the instructions and have tried it both ways. I usually keep the foil on and haven't had issues.
