  • Emgs not worth it

  • haha 0:37 i immediately knew its a vypyr!

  • dimebucker is super trebly

  • dimebucker is more dynamic and that's what a pickup should be!

  • i prefer the 81 but....if you are going to play metallica and compare pickups which one will have the metallica sound?......i leave that them

  • @oneyng2 i would logically go for the emgs since 'they' use emgs

but the dimebucks is very versatile so its also good

  • for me and for my ear S.D

  • dimembucker is high output

  • i've put a dimebucker in my Flying V... i will never take it out again. but i think when i get a Les paul it will be equpped wit EMG 81 and 85. still searching for a singlecoil sized pickup for my strat, still don't know wether i should take a hotrails in bridge, JB jr. in middle and cool rails in neck postion, or the EMG SX single coil set

  • @TheWolvesCurse jb in bridge, hot rails in neck, and middle idk i dont use the middle one

  • @fizzlefresh14 i wouldn't put a pickup in the neck position that has a higher output than the bridge pickup

  • @TheWolvesCurse i would just lower the neck pickup, making it lower output, clearer, and warmer

  • 0:01 - 0:17

"I'm waiting, in my cold cell, as the bell begins to chime..."

    Hallowed be Thy Name!

I've got 81's in the neck and bridge of my guitar, they sound great! (as long as you replace the battery every 2 months or so). If you don't replace the battery it gets ridiculously muddy.

  • @D1vid3By0 either you must play a lot, or youre not unplugging your guitar. since theyre active, every time you plug in your cord it turns your pickups on. unplug your guitar cable when your not playing.

  • @faqyaself

Play ALOT hahah. 2-4 hours a day if i can manage it.

  • It's useful ! Thankyou ! =)

  • The Mids SUCK on the Dime for rythm tones, but toher than that its fine, but EMG 81 is by far the winner

  • How did you get that close to master of puppets tone ? :)

  • @SFU21 going through the different tones and amps :)

the vypyr is a great amp for metalhead

  • Man That Dimebucker seems to kick total ass!!! Is it better in terms of metal then the SH-8 Invader?? Seymour Duncans are of the best quality better than DiMarzios in my opinion. Im looking for the best Gain. So Invaders or the Dimebucker? Thanks Man!!

  • @danbenkert go for the dimebucker, extra gain !!!

  • @yungsoo Thanks so much for the video and the info . Keep them coming The Dimebucker sounds so amazing. It sounds better then the active EMGs

  • @danbenkert you're welcome, you may also take a look at the seymour blackouts, they sound good !!

  • @yungsoo Yeah Ive seen them and heard them. Im pretty sure I want to keep passive. Thanks Buddy.

  • I have a EMGhz (n) and a Dimebucker (b). When I have the switch playing both, it sounds like an active 85/60, Dime alone is a bright kick in your face tone but on clean it's more of a crunch. EMGhz is nice for clean even though I can still hear a little bit of Dime crossing over (not much just a little bit) but I like still being able to get cleans. I plan on getting the blackouts preamp for more playing options while still being able to keep my passives without spending over $100.

  • i play them both, both are killer everyone can hear it, the emg is better on clean (better, not good), maybe the emg has more of that cutting sustain when palm muting, and the dimebucker sounds wonderful when playing chords with distortion

  • I'm going to play alot of metalcore and heavy metal like trivium, bfmv and such. So which one should i choose?

  • @mephedroneslut EMG 81/85

  • this is a good review. not like that fuckin country reviews xD.

those pickups are made for metal and we all know it.

  • The Duncan sounds better to me.

  • Dimebucker sounds really muddy on heavy distortion. Louder, but muddy. :(

  • I started watching this thinking I would post "Go for the EMG's" After listening, I have to go with the Seymour. Randy Rhoads forever !!!

  • After listening to this i feel that emgs where infact the wrong choice to make....

  • Emgs sound like shit most of the time not bad in this video though there pretty close go with the sh13 at least you dont have to use batteries

  • i play classic rock, rock ,metal, speed metal and trash what should i get?

  • @wwetnajeffhardy12345 you should take emgs

  • @yungsoo Anything but the dimebucker, the dimebucker is one of the worst pups ever and brings shame to Seymour Duncan i know from personal experience worst pup i ever played with.

  • Emg

  • aghhhh!!! i cant decide.. i want it all!!!

  • with the cleans there was no diffrence at all

  • i say EMG if you play distorted all the time, but if you switch from clean to distortion duncans are the way to go

  • that amp has sick tone dude

  • EMG 81

  • definitly Duncans win!

  • emg

  • EMG ALL THE WAY, but they both sound great anyway

  • Have you raised the EQ mids on Duncans?

  • @thedistortedguitar1 No, same EQ for both pickups. So we can hear the difference :)

  • if you are planning to get a more thrash kinda pickup get the dimebuckers if you wanna play heavy emg's are better

  • Im going to buy new mics for my Washburn guitar, so i wonder witch mic's im going yo buy.. I play Thrash Metal btw . :)

    please help me !

  • @Deep97Purple go for the duncans

  • @yungsoo naa... im going to buy Seymour Duncam Dimebuckers :D

  • Dimebucker hands down.

  • I got both Humebuckers. I got the set that comes with the PA2 preamp with mod of 2 batteries @ 18v even with all that modification and add on my Dimebucker sounds way better wich i am mad cause i spent so much for the Kerry King Set thinking that was going to sound better for Metal then the Dimebucker. I have 2 sets if 81 & 85 each one with PA2 and Battery mod and the other one with a single batt. I am no longer going to buy the 81's for future upgrades just a dimebucker and an EMG-AB that's it

  • hey im thinking of getting both of these pickups, which should iput on the bridge and which on the neck?

  • hey im thinking of getting both of these pickups on my guitar, which pickup should i put in the bridge and which on the neck?

  • @bloodbird6six6 bad idea, it will be a pain to wire! emgs are active and the duncans are passive, almost impossible to wire both into one guitar. and none of them sounds good in the neck position! if you go for duncans, put a duncan sh2 or sh1 in the neck, for emgs a 85 or a 60. and there is dimarzio too, a set like bridge: crunchlab/x2n neck: liquifire/ evolution will sound absolutely awesome.

  • hey im thinking of getting both of these pickups on my guitar, which pickup should i put in the bridge and which on the neck?

  • Hmm... The EMG's are more balanced but are mid scooped quite a bit.

I dont like the cleans or the floppy bass on the seymour duncans but it has more clarity

  • Really noodeing new pickups..but can't quite affore BOTH bridge and neck. Would installing just the bridge pickup be an issue until I can get the neck?

  • dimebucker sounds better for the master of puppets riff..... the emg has a deep warm and cozy tone, the dimebucker has a" dont fuck with me ill cut your head off' tone.

if i had to pick one id say emg just cuz ive neer played them (:

  • The Duncans sound so messy and muddy.

  • which ones are the most universal for metal?

  • @BARMAXAR emgs coz they can't sound properly in clean tones ;)

  • @yungsoo i say DUNCAN!!

  • emg for metal sound

    ...

  • emgs dont sound that low

  • Dimebucker owns it

  • This video does not do justice to either pick up. Youtube quality is retarded. I play an explorer with 81/85 and my mates Mustain V with the dimebucker; The explorer has FAR more output. People that tell you passive pickups have more juice than actives get their knowledge from videos, not experience. The dimebucker is aggressive as fuck, sounds great and makes me enjoy the difference in sound from my explorer. It has, using a mesa mark V, you really get a good example of tone from a pick up.

  • @hmcg020 It's a preference. I have 2 guitars with Blackouts(Active), and 4 guitars with DiMarzios(Passive). I can pull near the same tone outta both(not that I'd want to), running through my El Diablo. The amp is what defines your tone, the pickups are what shape it, and your fingers are what make the magic happen. What people mean by Passives having "more juice" is that they have a more raw sound. Actives are designed to pull more out your amp.

  • witch is better for pinch harmonics?

  • @BrujoAsesino123 In my opinion, EMG 81: I own one on a stratocaster, you can make different harmonics. I'm not sure of what I tell, cause I haven't tried out dimebuckers, but they seem to have lower output level and more mids and have a more "dirty" tone. That's why I think pinched harmonics would sound better with an EMG.

However, the sound of pinched harmonics depens more on the guitar's building and the strings you use than on the pickups. But I'm not a specialist.

    btw, both kicks ass!

  • @BrujoAsesino123 Sorry, clearer is a more appropriate word than better concernining pinched harmonics.

I really love bot PU, (EMG and Duncan in general are my 2 favourite makes). I can't choose. They are different and complementary on the same time. the best in a band would probably be having a guitarist using EMG and the other one using duncan =D.

  • @BrujoAsesino123 duncan wins

  • The Dimebucker is definilty tighter, I just wish it came in white X/

  • iv got both and iv been a emg addict for many years and i must say the dime has got a massive set of balls iv got the dime in a mahogany 79ml with hybrid 9 to 46? and the emg in a mahogany gibson explorer with standard 10s so they aint that many miles apart and the dime pisses all over the 81

  • Emg's are the best. \m/

  • I'm a huge EMG whore, but after hearing this side by side comparison....I'm buying a new Razorback goddamnit.

  • @killboxxy me to dude do you find if you switch from your guitar with emg to the dime that you have to drop the bass down on the amp?

  • @ISBSA1 I wouldn't know, I only have EMG's at the moment, I bought the limited edition red and white razorback like 3 days ago and I'm waiting for it to arrive :o.

  • @killboxxy damn skippy

  • I have both as well, and i honestly prefer my Dimebucker over the EMG 81

  • @Tragedyinagraveyard me to dude do you find if you switch from your guitar with emg to the dime that you have to drop the bass down on the amp?

  • @ISBSA1 yeah man i keep the bass somewhere between 8 and 9 when i play my flying v (Emg 81 bridge/ 85 neck) and i drop it to about 6 when i use my razorback (Dimebucker bridge, DMT neck), i also have to crank the gain DOWN when i use the dime because its so distorted. with the EMG setup i keep the gain on full and with the dime i have to drop it to about 8 at the most otherwise the tone losses its punch, for knowledge sake im using a 75 watt Line6 SpiderIV

  • @R3T4RDABL3 lol."if you dont have my tastes your a retard" nice one prick.

  • EMG for clean and DIME for distortion?

  • DIMEBUCKER

  • Dimebucker all the way

  • EMG

  • hey guys i need help do yall think i should get duncan sh-6 on neck and sh-13 on bridge or just emg 81-85? please reply

  • @TRIAXMEDIA depends of what you play but i go for the duncans !

  • @TRIAXMEDIA Duncans :P

  • @TRIAXMEDIA i have all the above and i would have a dime in the bridge and a emg 85 in the neck

  • @TRIAXMEDIA totally get the seymour duncans i use the dimebucker/jazz combo and it is soooo awesome and versitile

  • on mop id say duncans all the way

  • Duncan is way better!!! I mean it's my taste! It's more natural and fatter, and little darker!

    btw I hate EMG-s so...

  • The EMG's sound crunchier, cleaner and less thin. A really fat distorted sound to. I dunno. They're both great pickups, though.

  • Seymour Duncan kicks ass!

  • I prefer Duncan !

  • EMG

  • Both are great but I would have ti say the dimebucker cuts through better. the appearance of the dime is more classy than the emg too!

  • EMG wins because you did Hallowed be thy name

  • @horusoftheblackflame up the irons.

  • @horusoftheblackflame

When did you hear "Hallowed be thy Name" in this vid?

The clean and the crunch part sounded just like he played around a bit and the distortion part was damn sure "Master of Puppets" from Metallica. I'm a big fan of Metallica AND Maiden so believe me, ain't no "Hallowed be thy Name" in here!

BTW Duncan wins cause it's sound has way more balls!!! ;-)

  • I LOVE that Sh-13. I may have to switch from EMG to duncan now..

  • Duncan wins!!!!

  • Seymour duncan hasnt failed at all. They make a fine product. Also its verry hard to fid a genuine bill lawrence pickup theese days. Fyi fuck batteries and fuck emg. Cheers.

  • seymour duncan wins \m/

  • hey i put a dimebucker and jazz in my guitar and they sound like a buzzsaw meets a kangaroos asshole can u guys tell me if i put it right? i followed directions on the thing and the dimebucker sound like it has less outbut then the jazz which is fucking immpossible thanks.

  • doesn't matter what you put in a BC Rich platinum series guitar, it's gonna sound like shit, especially compared to a guitar made out of a single piece of mahogany.

  • I hear a lot of bad things about the Dimebucker

  • Did you have both pickups on the bridge? And use the same guitar and strings cause to me it's way obvious that the dimebucker just sounds better and has more tone and crunch to it

  • @DylanMan6 didn't use the same guitar but i had both pickups on the bridge

  • @yungsoo I vote you do a test between the Bill Lawrence L500XL and an EMG 81, or maybe the 81X? Also use the same guitar so its a fair fight. The SD Dimebucker is just a failed recreation of the Bill Lawrence L500XL pickup. Which by the way, are still available, so if you want the real deal Dimebag tone, get a Bill Lawrence L500XL.

  • in my opinion EMG sounds better

  • Dimebucker was louder and the sound wasn't so "5w solid state"-y.

  • the dimebucker is much heavier than the EMG. Can somebody do a comparison between DiMarzio X2N and Dimebucker?

  • Dimebucker best than EMG

  • dude what were your settings? sounds sick. for MOP

  • @wakko444 hey dude

i don't remember them, but it was something like

    bass: 6/7

    mid:3/7

    hi: 5/7

    pre gain: full

    post gain: full

    cheers

  • The EMG 81 for me is the winner, it was tighter and more focused sounding, it also had more clarity and a bit more gain. The Dimebucker tended to be a bit cluttered sounding and lacked some gain, I think that the Dimebucker is a failed attempt at the real deal Bill Lawrence XL500 that Dime used. I am a fan of EMG pups, and am also a Metallica fan, but I am a major fan of Dimebag and his raw and brutal tone. If you want a good comparison, do a Bill Lawrence XL500 vs EMG 81 video.

  • @forestofrencho *EDIT* I meant the Bill Lawrence L500XL

  • :52,odd,the dime seems to sound better at a metallica song than an 81? oh well,I still like EMGs way more than SD. Dimarzio>EMG>Seymour Duncan.

  • this video is stupid, of course emg is BETTER dont lie to the people

  • what song in 0:16

  • @yosoloyoyarlando "Push Push (lady lightning)" - Bang Camaro

    cheers

  • you need an EMG81 in the bridge and the Dimebucker in the neck i have a dean dime and i hate the dmt its a peace of crap. the dimebucker is crazy good for harmonics and soloing so in the neck posotion its good and the emg is cleaner distortian if it makes sence but only active if its passive it sucks too

  • can u please tell me what ampp were u using? =)

  • @alexisd3 I was using the Peavey Vypyr 75 watts.

It's the best amp i found for 300 bucks

  • @yungsoo same exact Amp I have and I have a BC Rich with Humbucker II.....The sound with that Amp is Godlike....

One thing I cant find that I like is a decent Death Metal setting for my Vyper...Any settings you recommend?

  • from this video i think dimebucker is better for clean and emg is better for the mid distortion, both sound good under heavy distortion

  • Is it me or does the dimebucker destroy the emg?

  • @foil666 EMG: destroys the dimebucker for rythym. for leads, its pretty much a toss up. but dimebags rythym tone was awsome but these dimebucker pickups that are being made i think are justcheaper, not as good, copies, cuz they dont sounds alot like what dime played :P

  • my personal prefrence would be the emg, to my ears it over all sounds better. rip dimbag

  • @SlashingDimes SLAYER!!! ARCH ENEMY!!! (i can do that too

  • EMG sacrifices the tone and resonance. plus its an active pickup. difficult to compare the dimebucker and EMG since they are built totally differently. Id prefer the SH-13 I own one and the resonance and tone is clearly picked up which adds a fuller more soulful rich sound. You can throw an EMG into a walmart guitar and it would sound most equally to what is recorded. EMG's are a preference if you dont care about the compromise of the tone and resonance.

  • I agree with the first sentence: You can't compare it to any passive pickups. For EMG you need totally different EQ/Gain settings than for SH-13.

I use EMGs with only a very few gain, around 1-2 on a 10 scale for death/thrash...be heavy with picking and not with the max. gain.

I disagree that it sounds the same in every guitar. I got a Gibson LP with EMGs and also an Ibanez RG-520 with EMGs and they sound totally different. Both guitars kept their basic characteristics with the EMGs as well.

  • EMG sucks ^^

  • @RobGratte fuck off JK

  • @SR5127CL Suck me ;) I learn you guitar, speak after ITF

  • @RobGratte why do you hate EMG anyway what the fuck did they do to u, make good fucking pickups

  • @SR5127CL I don't hate EMG it's very good mic, but the SH-13 is so better...

  • @SR5127CL Suck me i can learn you guitar if you want fucker

  • @RobGratte Maybe to You ..........

  • @adrianestuvoalla Kill the marshall

  • @adrianestuvoalla I have the spider. They are odd amps. I have a crate (which i put a Digitech DF7 through) and a spider 75 watt and the spider will distort anything. My strat doesnt get as much through the pedal as it does in the Spider amp its just the way they are they will make anything heavily distorted regardless of the guitar. It makes my Tom Delonge sound almost identical to my Tele Custom or MIM Tele Standard. Very very weird.

  • @hula89 true that. at times it sounds like shit but every once in a while i'l find the right combination...

  • In this video I think the emg sounds better for both. Don't ask me why! I just like the sound of it!

  • i have a dimebucker in my les paul and it is a beast trebly and thick at the same time with or without the mids.

  • EMG for clean, Dimebag for overdrive and distortion.

  • @narutoguy56 well actually

they both sound good in OD/dist but the sh-13 is waayyyy better in clean

  • i like both. i've used my friends strat h/s/s with a dimebucker and it sounded intense even being low output

  • EMG wins

  • i like emg better xD

  • I'm surprised, the dimebucker actually sounds half-decent. Not really a huge fan of it.

  • Great!

I love your tone from 0:45!

Your tone is raw and brutal.

    Do you know Dino Cazares?

His tone is also raw and not too distorted.

  • @TOKILLTHECOPS i know him only by name, i heard he is good

  • Dime for the fuller sound.

  • for this vid i like the sh 13

  • can't beat the dimebucker i

    simply love it

  • HALLOWED BE THY NAME :D

  • The EMG beat the Dimebucker on clean sound, but the Dimebucker sounded better to me overdriven than the EMG. The EMG was very clean sounding, but the Dimebucker just reached out the speakers and roundhouse kicked me like Chuck Norris. IMHO

  • hey dude! Do you remember your settings? Cause that tone sounds sick

  • @wakko444 sorry don't remember and regret it coz i knew someone would ask someday...

guess the clean was 3/4 bass, half mid and 2/3 treble..

the OD, like half bass, 3/4 mid and 2/3 treble

the distorsion: 2/3 to 3/4 bass, 1/3 of mids and treble 2/3

guess it was something like that

  • dime for ever

  • you'r showing the GUITAR sound, not the pickup sound... in a guitar sound, the woods, the construction, the hardware and the strings are really important

  • @redeemerx666 how do i show only the pickup sound ?

    i will reupload video then
