  • Has anyone ever told you that you look like House?

  • not just personality...Some of the spoken word/poems you have up show some definite skill and i say that sincerely

  • ...I recognize as something that appeals to some people.) So use that as you will. I'm tired of philosophy being cheapened by people who use it as a fashion accessory. But if you insist: At least do it with some actual wit.

  • I should probably justify my trolling. You are very theatrical. Which is fantastic. I am not. It's nice that you were endowed with an effervescent personality (and probably a comfortable middle-class upbringing). But philosophically, you're wrapped up in that faux-profundity you can find at any williamsburg coffee-shop. Philosophy as Accessory. Arguments which find proof not in argument but in pose. An affected flippancy. Your gift is Personality (one which i find irritating but which...

  • @CubemenHandbook At the time, I took it very seriously. Not for fashion, not for show, but a sincere search. You'd be a little closer using that criticism now, two years later, but now it's rhetoric, which begs for theatrics. These days, I hate philosophy with a passion, and I only use it to obscure and confuse because I think it obscures and confuses whatever is really important to us, whatever led us to philosophy in the first place. It's not cheapened because it's worthless.

  • @azrienoch What do you mean when you say you hate philosophy? Or do you outright refuse to define the word? Because you'd be declaring a philosophical stance either way. From where I'm standing, it's impossible to escape philosophy, merely another term for theorization. Science is philosophy that happens to be empirically falsifiable. Even people like Nietzsche and Wittgenstein who have denied metaphysics have done so by positing default metaphysics of their own and trying to discredit the rest.

  • @azrienoch Seriously, you don't think this stuff: "We choose our words according to what we think will best get people to follow the instruction" is philosophy? If not, what on God's green earth is it? "Rhetoric"? You're trying to get me to believe that we speak in order to get each other to believe us? Hell, even that would be a philosophical proposition. There is no escape, sir.

  • "to posit more specificity to our understanding of our language speaking history and condition." Ouch. You don't posit something "to" something. Embarassing that that's in large text on the back of your book.

  • @CubemenHandbook Yes. Ouch. Or something a little less give-a-shit.

  • omg I'll just buy it....lol

  • Why are Azrienoch's videos rated so low? It doesn't make any sense.

  • That background music is dizzying and distracting. It only makes the video worse. I'll check out the book anyway, though.

  • The Absurd...Franz..Camus.. I shall push that boulder up that mountain.

  • 1) not funny 2) threeofwands is a dude 3) "would you shut up? you're a terrible actor"... true statement.

but cool library. lots of books.

  • Cock

  • I laughed.

  • Where can i get your book? I'm running out of napkins, and toilet paper.

  • My favorite is the:

    Line?

There's no line, you're just talking!

    Can I have a Snapple???

Oh my god I love it. I'll buy a book if you will sign it!

  • You're either inside the game or you're outside of it

  • you are absurd

  • You know, I think he might just take that as a compliment. xD

  • I sure hope so! I bet Camus would think so too!

  • Camus? Albert Camus? =O I love him. ^_^

  • Me too. And I think he was murdered, it wasn't just a car accident. I think he was murdered by the French government!

  • if you are too stupid and dont think about anything it your problem...dont critisize ppl who actually want to know what they and why...

  • humm, was it something I said or thought? Or what you thought I said or what I said I thought, that must be it, sorry no direct offense to anyone other than myself was intended. But I like this guy as sometimes he says things that he doesn't mean in the way one thinks just to get people to think in a different way.

  • Great promo. Took me forever to figure out who the camera guy was. Twin brother, right?

  • its probably just edited.

  • Not a chance!

  • I have just skimmed it so over, but I can see its good. I've been writing a book on similiar themes.

    We are metaphor machines, yes?

  • I downloaded Azrienoch's book, and can't put it down. I am so consumed by reading it that I had to make a video about it. It's posted here as a video response.

  • I'd like to know what's so absurd about philosophy, but not enough to read this book.

  • I've got to check this out!

  • Funny. But the guy behind the camera could be better. I don't know if he's a "terrible actor," but it might be good to try it legit.

  • guy behind camera.. is the guy.. i think

  • you hath no concept, what , you trippin??

    watch?v=00laCeibBK4

  • I love that you let us download it for free, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to afford it! Thank you so much, I look forward to reading it.

  • i love the way you give the book for free and let ppl decide how much to spend on it... true artist ^^ wants to spread his artwork and money comes on second... or last of you want ;P

  • lol, silly boy. :)

  • probably but i stand for what i said back then to this day :P

  • every action was well rehearsed (8)

  • you are your own gay boyfriend.

  • LOL, you are hilarious! Where have you been hiding??

  • So why did you decide to go with Lulu rather deal directly with Lightning Source? Are you happy with that decision?

  • I am happy with Lulu, yes. I didn't know Lulu worked through Lighting Source (in fact, I don't know that they do). Regardless, I'm familiar with their infrastructure, and I liked the result with my first book.

  • Your new book sounds interesting. I would like to read a sample chapter online if you have one available.

I still have not read your first book, but I will. Do you still subscribe to Wittgenstein's anti-metaphysical linguistic philosophy?

  • in the video he states a few times that you can download the pdf for free. . . how is that for a sample chapter? Cheers mate!

  • above it reads, "View all 111 comments".

that happens to be my own personal magic number. hmmm, coincidence. so, a belated welcome to lulu... although the only relation i have to them is my own self-published book, Cthulhu Cult, which is kind of an absurd philosophy as well.

    and great video!

    VS

  • lame

  • is that a 6 x 9 that you're holding in your hands, or an 8.5 x 11 ?

  • 6x9. Getting a feeling of scale?

  • nah. just flirting with you!

  • ohhhhh!

  • "I should read more."

Smith-Luedke, Jeff. The Absurdity of Philosophy. Page 4

You should read more, I thik. :)

  • Az, you may already be aware of this, but you could pursue and obtain a B.A. in philosophy from the American Public University System, entirely online as a distance learner. Whether its a good idea to spend your money on such a project (or even a sane one)I wouldn't say, but the option is there.

  • i am very interested in philosophy and would like to know if university study is good foundation to build on. not really interested in a degree or a vocational career in the field; just for personal interest and development.

  • Although a lot of us would love to get payed well with a degree in philosophy, we cant. The three things most philosophers do to make money (modern day america): 1. Write Books, 2. Teach, 3. Flip burgers.

  • so is 4 years of college woth it for someone whoe does not wish to use the degree, or would you recommend reading and independent study? im very interested in philosophy just not sure how to go about studying

  • It is worth it if you can afford it. If it will cause mass struggle in your life to afford it, then do it in your own free time. However taking a class gives you a much more full understanding of the material, as always. (besides its philosophy so you will eventually need to discuss it to fully solidify it in your brain-- besides makes it much easier to recall). Cheers.

  • Where can I find a review?

  • heh... checking out the video responses now. I hate people like me.

  • Lirpa has a very nice review. More reviews should be coming out soon as people receive the book in the mail and read it.

  • By the way, thank you very much for putting my name in lights in your Preface. You really don't know how much that means to me!

  • Class

  • Az,

Do you want actual feedback, or just perfunctory encomium, Jeff? It is alright if I call you Jeff, isn't it?

  • I'd love actual feedback ("perfunctory encomium" will only get me as far as someone can't see.) Thanks teddy!

  • I'm on page ten or so. It reads great! I will be buying a copy soon. It's nice to read someone that still understands Camus' complexity and doesn't just relegate him to the fiction shelf.

  • wish i could buy it ^^, but i can barely afford food each week

  • YAYYY!! I'll quit bugging you for a while now, lol.

  • Congrats!

  • ~just bought it off Lulu.

I look forward to reading it.

  • Great! I was wondering about your book a few months ago when you mentioned it while going over linguistics in a video. I'm going to buy it right now.

  • I'm a fourth of the way through and started a little while ago. I have to say I like the informal and personal style even if I don't entirely agree with some of the material.

  • Thanks, Mike!

  • "was given us" is syntactically acceptable. It has a classical diction that I find flattering to the topic. I hope your book is widely read! Cheers mate.

  • Thanks!

  • Just ordered the book What this about "The Perpetual Wound" existing as an audio-book... LOL! Who speaks?

  • heh, that's just the first 1/5 of the book. I read it. It's bad.

  • So I was reading your book in PDF format... I noticed a typo...

  • uh oh... where?

  • page 17 of the PDF. Near the bottom you wrote: "And from the slums of one such colony, Algiers, Albert Camus was given us." Pretty sure you meant "...Camus was given TO us."

  • Oh, no, stylistic choice. Whew! You scared me!

  • Seriously? Makes it a rather awkward read.

  • Pretensia is always awkward.

  • No, cda6590, "was given us" is more erudite.

  • YES!

  • hahahaha "line" "you dont have any lines, your just talking." "dammit"

  • Oh Az, thank you for letting me know that I'm not the only one with a philosophical man-crush on Albert Camus. lol

  • Fuck off. Don't buy books. Especially fucking philosophical books. I purchased Camus' The Myth of Syphilis , or so I thought the title read ; and without turning a page took to a wanton weekend in Haiti. If I ever gain any weight back, I will be cracking some Barnes and Noble skull. Fuck you.

  • LOL

  • am i going to have to buy a dictionary just to read this book ? lol j/k congrats man ill check it out

  • I downloaded the book and started reading it. I don't know--many of your videos are much stronger than your writing, in that they convey your points more succinctly. I realize that by writing a meandering, first-person meditation, you are trying to formally mimic the philosophical message you believe in (that of perspectivism), but I think all the personalization of it doesn't really add much to the experience, and you'd be better off doing drier philosophical analysis.

  • How far are you? Because I just don't think that's true. Of course there is something to videos that you won't find in text, but text has the advantage of more ironic play. (Your comment leads me to believe you've read maybe the first one or two sections. I begin with more laxed, existential musings and move on into the analytical meat on that basis.)

  • You're right. I will read on--as soon as exams are over. I am interested in your ideas.

  • Interesting...before watching this video I never even knew there existed such a thing as absurdism. I guess you learn something new every day...

  • Should be a good read on my trip to ANWR this summer. To think...caribou, grizzly, and AZ - Oh My!

  • okay, so the cliche arguing with the camera-man/director was lame until it was you who appeared from behind the lense. I should have expected that :P

  • hehehehehehe, I don't do lame. ;)

  • Is this a take on the Homestarrunner sketch?

  • Ha! I love that sketch! Not intentionally, but perhaps on some subconscious level.

  • Me 2.

  • Congrats!

  • thanks!

  • Hey az, I recommend reading The Slightest Philosophy by Quee Nelson if you haven't already. Its a good book, and im about to download yours now.

  • Thanks, abe. Although, I think you'll find "The Slightest Philosophy" and my own radically opposed to one another.

  • heh perhaps, im still reading yours. Have you read the slightest philosophy before? its a fun conversation between a anti-realist professor and a 'vulgar' realist student... I enjoyed it though, I read all kinds of philosophy.

  • Lol, "You don't have any lines, you're just talking." And more lol, "It's got philosophy in it." To help a cool philosopher, I'll buy the tactile paperback version -- all the better to digest the linguistic absurdity of Az.

  • Thank you very much, Steven.

  • Ah, excellent. Okay. As soon as it's up on Amazon I'll take a look into it.

  • Godamn, Az, I'm jealous of your vids. 5 stars!!!

  • Congratulations! I'll check it out!

  • I appreciate it!

  • I'm not quite sure what you mean... it'll be on Amazon as soon as they update their site.

  • Is it available on Ebay yet? :) Congrats sweetness. I am glad it is over. NOW onto the Murder mystery book :)

  • Thanks, Fab. I think I might let the murder story be a long story to be published with a collection of short stories. My next focus is The Heretical Comedy.

  • Another philosophy? Like the title.

  • Thanks, and no, it's fiction. It's about a guy, the only guy taken up to heaven in the rapture, that has to walk through hell to get there... meeting all my favorite people while he's there. ;)

  • OH AZ....Your family will be soo proud :P

  • hehehehehehehehe

  • Congratulations.

  • Thanks!

  • Love the twist at the end...should have seen it coming (based on your last few videos)...I'm so jealous of your software.

  • Thanks! You can steal it, you know. At least, that's what I did. Vegas 7. And a $6 piece of green cloth.

  • how do we steal the green cloth?

  • Wait until the owner isn't looking.

  • Yeah, that's why I have people like Lirpa around. Thanks!

  • Looking forward to buying and reading it, as soon as i get a job.

  • Well, to keep yourself busy, just download it for free.

  • I shall do this, and I'll order a copy of the book when I can find a job where I don't have to speak french!

  • I wish I wasn't so damn broke otherwise I'd hurry to buy your book in a heartbeat.

  • That's okay, just make sure you download it. Go to Lulu and click the download button. It'll pop right up.

  • thanks to Lirpa69's videos, I was exposed to your work. I think the arguments and the ideas you propose are provoking. I will check it out your full work...

    Best regards.

  • Thanks!

  • SOLD

  • To the man with an abnormally large number of palm trees!

  • Going to buy it for sure along with The Perpetual Wound, just so I can add to my obsessive book collection. Well, I'll read it too!

  • I know how you feel... ;D

  • naw!

  • Congrats :0)

  • Thank you.

  • It's up now, of course. But man, that was inconvenient.

  • congratulations

  • Thanks!

  • you need a youtube feature. It will really help you sell this book and I think alot of your more "entertainment videos" could have a mass appeal.

  • Thanks, dan. If I knew how to get videos featured, trust me, I'd be all over that.

  • I fived it and favorite. Maybe that will help get it featured.

  • Thank you very much, Norton! Doesn't bother me that you can't buy it, just make sure you download it. It helps those lulu ranking numbers. ;)

  • LMFAO i love this shit man

  • Thanks!

  • Approve my video response already. =P

  • Doh. I always forget that.

  • Clever.

    I'm intrigued.

  • Mission accomplished! But not in that Bush sort of way.

  • HURRAY!

  • Woohoo!

  • I'm going to buy it most defiantly!

  • Coolies. I appreciate it.

  • I applaud you on your accomplishment. May you continue to be creative: entertaining (to your wife!), informative (to the rest of us), and always open to revision and further development, rather than closed off and frustrated (I'm obviously thinking of myself here). A few more successful books like this and you could land a publisher. I'm praying for you - in the sense that Freud (Derrida) believed that to be a positive gesture.

  • Thank you, Trollschool. It means a lot to me.

  • Yeah :( .

  • Congrats!

  • Thanks!

  • I think this is going to be good! :P

  • Well, that puts you a step ahead of me. I'm still hoping. ;)

  • That's an incredibly irresistible title, I'm off to look for a foreword or a review

  • Thanks!

  • You just CAN'T make a bad video.

  • You flatter me!

  • You earned it.

  • No hardcover?

  • No, they're difficult to manage. Maybe I'll do one eventually, but now I have to focus on other things.

  • I expect another autograph. : )

  • Most definitely. Am I seeing you in May, or in August?

  • Another autograph? Did you get the first one, man?

  • Congrats man
