the only way to put an end to this global disaster is to have total worldwide non-compliance with the system. If everybody turned off their t.vs for a week and didnt go to work, think of the results!!!
Fiat and fractional reserve banking has opened the flood gates of currency so that more people were able to participate in the economy. Local currencies is the next evolution. A centralized bank is impeding upon out ability to reduce scarcity.
Its unfortunate that these people don't understand that the currencies they are promoting have the same aspect of unsustainability that fiat currencies have.
You cannot build a sustainable economy on an unsustainable currency. Only currencies that are backed by commodities (with gold, silver, and copper being the best examples) can avoid being manipulated.
HA HA HA, lots of metro sexuals with feel good ideas wanting to control their money. Why doesn't anyone under thirty understand the concept of greed? Just combine greed, laziness, and great computer hacking skills and these alternative currencies will be corrupted, like all fiat currencies. Silver & gold the world knows, trusts, and you can't hack! Get a clue people. In the end, feeding yourself is the only thing going to matter anyway. Learn gardening, learn a trade! Produce something of value!
@ minesapint123 - I guess you're aware that the fiat currencies that governments "decree" is money, is actually nothing but numbers in a computer, so nothing there's really different. Except one involves freedom of choice, the other (dollars) involves coercion and inflation. Both are inherently worthless.
Yeah thats why I keep precious metals stashed away. Its nice to know you have something of value incase they decide to pull the rug from beneath our feet!
Interesting concept - and in line with my belief that only smaller-scale or more localized economies will be viable in the future. Also a way to overcome the limitations associated with pure barter and prevent centralized power bases from extracting our value without our consent. Power to the People! The biggest limiting factor in this idea is trust, and safety. Also, digital is tenuous and constantly morphing, so saving in digital money would be too high risk.
Exactly. Don't store one's wealth in local money, (or digitally, or Federal Reserve Notes). Simply transfer only enough of your wealth into "local money", (or FRNs), to meet the needs of operating expenses. A person would be most wise to store most of his/her wealth in other ways, (e.g., precious metals or other hard assets, such as real estate, or appropriate durable goods). My two cents...
I think gold on World of Warcraft is more of a threat to our current monetary system than VEN.I hate that game, but I'm just saying this sounds too indiviualized/isolated.
This is basically barter, but with the advantage of being relatively easily transferable, (traded), to someone else who is local.
But, local money isn't accepted nationwide! Sure. But try taking chickens to a local gas station and say, "I need gas, how much can I get for these chickens?". "Local money" isn't a perfect solution, but it's better than US gov't fiat dollars, and better than driving around with a truckload of wood, (or whatever), asking a store owner to exchange it for groceries.
@MrDorkusMaximus we need to bring back trade and banter. all the money we hold in our hands today is only as valuable as the paper its printed on. Man made government so therefore man owns government. Every country in this world acts in a state of bankruptcy. So how does each government borrow money from the world bank? They use our birth certs as collateral, assuming that we will generate income as we grow old. We have all been lied to since the day we were born.
LOL @ Ven.

Just goes to show how worthless currencies are if this kind of thing could be created with nothing but numbers being traded!

That's very prudent and rational. I'm with you there. Cheers

giving people the option to create their own "money" huh, that is a little out there even by my standards.
