dude is a retard. To make an aquarium all you need is 3/4" thick plywood, and a large thick sheet of plexi(or real tempered glass). After the shape is made use fiberglass sheeting and them epoxy the whole tank. Once that dries put the glass in and use silicon and wight down the glass while it dries. Then a simple leak test. Filtration is a whole different story but some PVC and a sump is great.

I built my 60 for 5.00 Plus 30-35 minutes of my wife and I's time :) So I fure the total cost if we did it by dollars.. Was 40.00.... Including the supplies and hourly rate of say.. 15.00 per hour...

The gain... I got to spend some awesoem time with my Beautiful wife. And Obviously we did something cool that is still up and running today :)

Not all aquariums are this cheap to build... Though i was lucky to pick up the glass for free :) Maceys Closed here :)

I have built my own aquariums, it is not really that difficult. The main things you need to get correct are the thinkness of the glass and using the correct silicon and testing it before you put it in your house with water in it.

You can get the glass at a custom glass shop. Make sure to let them know what you are making and that they cut it exact. Tempered glass works best but must be professionally cut.

He doesn't really have to be an expert, it's just basic craftsmanship. Glass is a pain to work with, especially when trying to make a water tight perfect box. Would you goto pet-XXXX and buy a 10 gallon aquarium for 11$ or buy panes of glass, aquarium safe sealent and a custom plastic cap for the top and bottom? Not to mention trying to cut the glass perfectly without scratching it all up and getting all the angles perfect.

This is a job best left to the machines, not the men.
