Petrucci comes up with great melodies and its a shame all of his most famous stuff on youtube is just the shred stuff because really he has a lot feeling and soul in his playing. also "ZERO musical talent" so if he played blues pentatonic scale with bends it gives him amazing talent? i think you're prejudging him.

Iron Maiden actually introduced me to Dream Theater and that in itself is an awesome thing.. Dave Murray, better than JP? You've got to be kidding me! Murray is a pretty good guitarist, but Adrian Smith is the better of the two Maiden guitarists by a long shot, especially later in their careers. He has a great melodic sense and is a great songwriter, as well as more technical. Smith and Murray are 70's style guitarists who enjoyed success in the 80's. Their technical ability and chops cannot compare to most 80's guitarists, lease of all Petrucci. He can piss circles around both of them!

petrucci doesn't use any legato pedal, there's no such thing for guitar, you are thinking of piano. I don't know what's your sence of difficulty, but, although luca turilli is an amazingly stunning player, dave murray uses pretty basic soloing ideas, his solos might me good, but xD talking about complexity? ask dave murray himself. let's see what he will tell you

If he was nothing more than mediocre, you wouldn't see Musicman working together with him to produce the Mystic Dream ($4,000) guitars, nor would he be a regular on the G3 tours with Vai and Satch.
