Plants vs Zombies btw - there's a videogame that sums up an aspect of what is wrong with the world. All the zombie brainless idiots out mowing and strimming and trimming, wasting fuel and killing vital wildflowers that feed pollinators like bees.
POB - I just discovered your channel - May 2010. I love your candidness, the swearing and that you're genuine - the real deal. No fluff or superficial exterior. Get Dirty MAN!!
"We're Nintendo kids, we don't know what the fuck we're doing." That is the best freakin quote, I love it, because I'm a Nintendo kid who, with my husband, is trying to live more sustainably and grow food, and you are so right! It's learn as you go. Man, I love this, ty!
@Riverwytche - just get them to make games like Farmville directly applicable to actual reality, then people have all the growing knowledge from playing games.
I don't know if Farmville already is realistic or not, so maybe they already did that. I don't have a Wii, last one of theirs I have is a Gamecube.
we just got a town home with a back yard that is 10x11 feet. We've already ripped out all the grass and we're going to use the space to grow veggies come spring. Can't wait!
you have been very prophetic in your observations though what's happened wsa pretty easy to forsee if you didn't have your head in the sand or up your own arse.
Good vid - very inspiring. Allotments are the new cool. I am in agony today from working mine over for 5 hours straight yesterday.
My husband and I are currently converting our half acre plot into fruit, nut and berry trees, with tons of other food stuff as well. Not farmers, just learnin' as we go.Maybe some chickens too.Love your politics.Funny as hell..but so right on.
you guys might like what were doing over at hyperlocavore. it's a site dedicated to creating yardsharing -growing food groups in a decentralized way... because after oil - we're still going to be eating! join us!
I really admire what you're doing. So many people think that land access is the only way to live sustainably, and its just not true. I grew up in a rural area, so I've had a garden all my life, and when I moved to the city, it honestly scared me to think of what would happen in a peak oil situation. Seeing people paying 5 dollars for 3 sticks of firewood before an ice storm really clued me in to the kind of mindset most urban people live in. It's a pretty scary thought.
Dandelion leaves need to be soaked in water with a teaspoon of baking soda before eating them or eat the young shoots. There rich in vitamin A B1 and C. The roots can be dried and used as a coffee/tea substitute its good for your kidneys. The flower I eat by sprinkling on salads but you can just pick and eat them. The flowers good to prevent cancer. Be careful there grown in a clean area you don't want to eat something your neighbor just sprayed with insecticide or other chemicals.
This is awesome. when you begin picking your harvest you will gauranteed be giving much away. A family of 4 that grows like 10 plants ends up also feeding thier neighbors for half the summer. please also consider using your roof space for growing. if every world citizen grew 1-2 plants for food the planet would thank us. this year I am also growing indoors for the winter months. van jones for president.
Hey I was thinkin' though, lets hurry up and start using all the food to make gas alternatives to run our cars right, so we can run outta food even quicker.
right on! any tips on how to start a garden on desert landscape? I'm a beginner but no i'd better start learning to grow my own food. especially because i'm vegetarian!! thank you so much for sharing.
I had a grandpa who use to farm all his food, literally, he never went to the store for food. We all thought he was crazy for going through all that work but now that the food prices are going up and us having to spend well over 100$/week for food. We aren't the ones laughing anymore. Those gardens could save your life and for sure save you a hell of a lot of money. I see all these people complaining about how they can't afford gas or food anymore because of rising prices.
Good vid. Have you had the mineral content of your soil checked, especially for cobalt (to allow for vitamin B12) and iodine (to prevent goitre), and do you have a plan to maintain it? Malnutrition would be a bummer after all that work.
Yes, all the minerals are A-OK, and the acidity is perfect for growing food crops. Last year I got over 45 tomatoes from a single plant! (Not all ripened, however)
How did you learn about peak oil? No one at my coffee house believes me when I try to tell them about it. Course, they're all from the "boomer" greedy gen you were talkin bout. Maybe you could write some music about the end of the oil age.
I am a member of Portland, Oregon's Peak Oil Task Force. I helped write the report on how to deal with Peak Oil.
It's all going to come down to getting to know your neighbors, learning awesome gardening skills, and having a good time while learning to live with less!

Just consider all the waste of fuel that comes from people using shit like powered mowers strimmers trimmers etc - all of it 100% unnecessary.
Like the Despair (dot) com poster reads, "no single raindrop ever thinks it contributes to the sea"...
though that also will likely go over their idiot zombie heads.

eat dandelions when they are really small, then make wine from the blossoms. We are digging up our lawn right now, I love it...lawns are stupid.
