Minor third, flat 7 are kind of semi clashes that add a bit of a Bluesy sound. Minor third resovles to major third and flat 7 resolves through the major 7 to the tonic (or as mentioned before sometimes isn't that much of a clash.
flat 5 (or sharp 4) is yet more bluesy and held as a clash for as long as you like and can then follow in any direction really. Try clashing it with the minor 3rd fifth 7th and tonic, and using that as a stopping point for a held note or trill to catch your breath.
@ChocolateChipPizza Major 6th and major 2nd are there too add a bit of jazzy colour it, but mainly just as passing notes between the home notes and the blue notes.
A final thing to know is that, no matter what chord you're on, to a certain extent the "rules" of the tonic key fit over EVERY chord. I.E in G, if you're on the C chord you can still just noodle with the G blues scale.
@ChocolateChipPizza And sometimes something falls between both rules. E.g. the minor third of G (Bb) is also the flat 7 of C, so if you trill or a G to a Bb in G, when you change to the C chord, it still works because it's the flat 7th and the 5th of G (as oppoes to the flat 3 and tonic of G)
But most importantly, all these guidlines of notes to use are just a descriptor of what sounds good. So use you're ears, if you don't like something, then it's not right for you, and if soemthing soudns cool then use it, no matter whether or not it "should" work. These rules I;'ve mentioned so far have come from me playing by ear and listening to others improvise
how to play the fit bass for the song !? what the purpose of intervals? and what is the difference between intervals and chords ?hope i find answer...

Wooooow, you're liek a musical GENIUS. I hope to play like you one day. Just wanna ask you something, after the 'GBDE FEDB' what notes come after that, is it C again?
how do you practice getting up to speed and syncronizing left and right hand? and 2, as you move your left hand, say from g to a, do you play notes from the g chord to the notes of the a chord? thank you.
Start with simple songs and start slow. Build up and you will eventually get used to using your two hands together. Don't try and jump into anything really difficult. Start simple.
Not entirely sure what you're aksing, but if you are referring to the Left Hand riff which goes:
G-A-B-Bb-C
You will keep the G chord held throughout untill you hit C - the second little bit of the 12 bar blues. Ask again if this still doesn't answer your question.
Pretty intersting. I am "learning" jazz since a couple of years with >10 years classics in the past. Looking for walking bass and how to exploit it in jazz. Thanks for your video. Great playing! /Stefan
musicguru12, your riffs are wicked slick!(Excellent!)I am a beginning piano player stuck learning in the key of "C", but now I am learning "G" from your videos! Is it possible, in your videos, to demonstrate VERY SLOW and SPEAK SLOW, one time, before playing at fast tempo? We beginners want to see clearly each and every note that you play because they are too valuable to miss!!Keep up the good lessons!! Thanks, beginnerkeys
Hi there, just wondering how long you have practiced until you can separate the left hand and right hand.. so your left hand can do the walking bass with no effect to the right hand's solo.!
GBCC#DCBAG GBCC#DCBA CBbAG CBbAG# ABDEFEDBbACC#DCBAG octaves RH G then C#/D & G G then C & E G THEN Bb/B & D-optional ENDING LH: GBCC#D RH: G GBGCGC#GC#D LAST CHORD D7#9 LH: D OCT RH: F# C F not 100% right but close enough
cool lesson don't s'pose u could tell me the notes to the entire left hand pattern, it's a bit pain staking trying to watch and write them down. thanks a lot!

Big hearted of you to share your skills with the world via youtube.
Great for people who can't take private lessons. It's nice being able to watch the fingering over and over until I start to get a part correct.
This is very inspiring and sounds beautiful.

What scales do you use for playing the melody? Mixolydian? Blues?
Thanks!
ChocolateChipPizza 1 year ago
@ChocolateChipPizza
It's a bit more complicated than that- you'll find he basically uses every note bar Eb and Ab. And even then, if you wanted to you could work them in.
Think of what chord you're on at the time.
Tonic, major third, and fifth are home. flat 7 isn't too clashing and is almost home too.
To make it sound like boogie woogie- you add "clashes"

Doesn't going to the 9th work against the rules of Blues? 1, 4, 5.

The pattern this time is actually:
1,4,1,2,5,1
Its a variation; I don't believe in rules with music ;)
