  • @Killjoy99998 Either way is fine. Although ONLY in Spain is pronounced vay, in every other Spanish speaking country, people pronounce it as bay, so b and v have the same sound. Every country has a different way to pronounce some of the letters of the alphabet because not everyone has the same accent.

  • @UnitedPebbles when you see a spanish word you look at the spanish alphabet and put the sounds together to sound it out, just like the english alphabet...well kinda, I think we english speaking people have a lot more rules that make the alphabet really useless anyway unless its like the word...I can't think of any :)

  • Hello, i'm Spanish and the "rr" (double r) isn't at the official alphabet. And every letter that you see that in the video finishes with an Y sound like "bay, say, day..." in correctly spanish pronunciation finishes without the "Y" sound, like B--> BE (like BE-st), C---> CE, like THA-kyou, this sound is maked pronunciating with the tongue between teeth. Ihope that this little tricks can help you.

  • The rr isn't omitted, the single r is. Yes rr is officially in the spanish alphabet. I think the speed of the song is great when you're just learning. You should be able to do it faster yourself once you're comfortable with it. Thank you. My first grader has to learn this, his colors, and to count to 30.

  • I'm glad you like it! I don't have a specific reason why "rr" is omitted. This is how the Spanish alphabet song was being taught to my daughter at school, and on 2 Spanish alphabet charts I bought, "rr" isn't on either one.

    Does anyone else have insight as to whether "rr" is officially in the Spanish alphabet or not?

  • because of the few words that have "rr" also "ch""ll" and "ñ" but when I was little they tought me with those so it is the complete spanish alphabet ;)

    Nowadays there are no "rr", "ch" or "ll".

    I don't know if the "rr" has been considered a letter before, but I was born in 1980 and I never knew it as a single letter.

    The letters "ch" and "ll" were abandoned and considered as digraphs in April 1994.

  • @SpanishDiscoveryTime 'rr' is omitted because it is considered a 'sound'/ letter combination, rather than a letter itself--this is what my college professor claimed...hope that helps!

Also on a side note, the pronunciation of both 'ch' and 'w' are diff. in the version from Spain. I think we learn Spanish catering to Central America and Mexico.

  • I'm from Chile, and when we are kids, we are told that the correct alphabet is:

    A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, Ñ, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z.

    I was told that in Spain they banned the letters "Ch", "ll" (double L), and "rr", in the alphabet.

    So for that reason, in school now they teach in which case we have to use this consonants when we write something or we pronounce a word.

  • @SpanishDiscoveryTime some of the letters in the spanish alphabet have been emitted, its a couple now in 2011. the reason is because this alphabet is the Spain alphabet, which slightly differs from the orignal one. it's just a mix now, but it doesn't really matter

    It's late but officially (academia real) there are only 27 letters in the Spanish alphabet - the n~ is the only extra. Ch, rr, and ll were removed as separate letters (ll most recently I believe). Ch and rr have been considered sounds for quite a while.
