People, I'd appreciate some opinions about possible reliability problems with the Street Triple. Mainly timing chain tensioner problems, oil leakage in the head gasket, coolant leakage in the radiator hoses and faulty electronics. Thanks a lot.
@RicardoSS85 I got mine almost 3 years now and no problems what so ever , got plenty of long miles on it , doing roadtrips etc , no probs what so ever . Though i must say , i really take good care of all my bikes . I also do most of the maintenance myself, so no unexpected surprises will pop-up . It only goes to the dealer for tire/brakepad changes etc.
@odracirseraoseia1999 I haven't had any serious problems with mine. Last year it had trouble starting, like it would take 2 or 3 tries even in nice weather on a cold start. Oddly enough, the problem disappeared since I took it out of storage this spring.
I'm afraid I have to disagree, I'm not going to say anything wrong about Ducati here, but I'm driving a Speed for about 2 years now and never had any problems. Of course very personal but the sound of a threecilinder is quite nice especially with the Arrow slip-ons and you have both of best worlds, torque and speed. 60% way up on the market is quite enough proof that Triumph is very reliable and f*cking fast. For me probably the best motorcycle in the world in engineering and beauty.
All apologies, after re-reading your mail, I realise this. Next time I will read the mail better. Probably because my mother-tongue is Flemish! ;-) Take care and thanks for the Triumph support ;-) Are you on facebook? Cheers Peter
i originally wanted the 696 but we went for a test ride on both and i must say that the speed triple is a much more powerful, and well built engine, besides its naturally good looks... it is good for stunts low down poer for cruising round town and still has the grunt to perform when asked.... i went with the triple
jdouglas996 thank you for reply :) I would have to ride both bikes, These days dealers most of the time wont let test ride new bikes :( so how the hell im supposted to know what im buying just like a car. same thing. Yea they worry cause you gonna crash or something. I want a rare bike from 07 and on 9.500 out the door no more than that. I love the new ducati 848 also I was sitting on it its not realy that heavy hypermotard is pretty cool too but yea both of them cost 13.000 $ before tax so on
that horsepower rating can be decieving though, the ducati is a twin cylinder, the torque and power deliverey is different. They are pretty evenly matched, the winner will depend on the better rider
I was doing some research and they both have the same brakes. triumph dropped nissin and switched to brembo. ducati looks better, but more power is in triumph. supposedly ducati ahs a better ride and in my opinion looks better. I originally wanted a street triple until i saw the new 696 hope this helps.
where did you find that info? I checked it out at the dealership and maintenance on the ducati is $90/hr. the triumph is $70/hr. both hopefully only require oil changes. let me know if you know more info. take care.
I test rode a daytona 675 as the street triple was full and loved the sound. I'm still torn between the speed and street but the street is so light and narrow. So far I'm leaning towards the street T. Now I have to wait a couple years until my car is paid off to trade in my aprilia.
fuck me these guys can ride. lol i got a honda but i've always had my eye on a triumph street triple. does anyone knoe what the going price of one of these babys is atm? £?
THIS BIKE IS SICK I WATCHED ALL THE NAKED BIKES VIDEOS AND SPECS AND THIS IS THE ONE WITH BETTER PRICE/POWER THE COMPETITION ONLY COMES FROM BRUTALE,TNT,BUELL,ETC BUT THOSE BIKES ARE LIKE 12K this one is 8K, AND ITS PRETTIER THAN THE NEW HORNET FZ6N
They can only import 100 Street Triples because that's as many as Triumph can make for them. Worldwide demand for the Streets is far beyond what Triumph expected.
went to a dealer near seattle, i guess triumph is only importing about 100 street triples this year they said. so i bought a speed triple instead for a grand more and the thing rocks.
Im not into stunting, although I can pull a wheelie in second. But I give props where there due. That guy is really good. not to mention at 1:07 in the video, I would have Shat myself If I would have been laying down there.
the speed triple is THE hooligan bike

The lack of answers actually says a lot about the Street Triple reliabilty;) I'm going with the Monster 796. Anyway, thanks!

Is this better than Ducati Monster 696 ? its similar price, I dont know really which one is better, I like the looks of the new monster.
CarManiac82 3 years ago
You should definitely get the triumph its 107hp vs 78hp... the ducati is better looking and has better brakes, but the raw power is in the ST :)

you should check the cost of ownership on these bikes - triumph has ducati well beat out.

The triple has more power and the 3cil. sound.
the 696 is ducati... and the brute 2cil sound.
looks are personal, both about the same price and maintenance costs.
