What does the music describe at the beginning of the movement?

I think it wants to describe the excitement of the hunt. The late autumn hunt for boars, wandering in the forest, trapessing on dry leaves. Sometimes catching site of mighty deer bulls in the forest, feeling the last attempts of the summer heat, which we call "old womens' summer" in hungarian. I think this is what the whole theme is about. :)

I know that vivaldi had asthma as do I. So to me, I think that somewhere in the back of his mind he was really composing the Four Season Concerti as an asthmatics view of the seasons.

This is my favorite movement of my favorite Season. I've read that he had hunting on horses in mind when writing this piece, and that the ever-changing forte in the piece is reminiscent of chasing your game.

@chiarakyara Not going to argue the popularity of hunting horseback from time immemorial so please search the following in Google: "All Music Guide Vivaldi 4 Seasons Autumn horseback" Click the AllMusic dot com article. Read. From the bottom, quote:

"L'autunno (Autumn) is marked by a folksy harvest celebration and the galloping of a hunting party on horseback."

There's a reason you always imagine horses: it's written into the music, even if he only talks about guns and dogs in his poem.
