This JJ dude knows his shit for real, having chosen the M5A99x over the ASRock 990FX Extreme4, it was reassuring to have someone that laid it all out and left me in no doubt I'd made the right choice. Nuff respect JJ!!
@coltfizz No, You can only put an Intel chip in an Intel board and an AMD chip into an AMD board. A big difference is the pins and location of said pins, not to mention Intel cpu's have no pins, they are in the board. AMD cpu pins are in the physical chip itself.
Intel and AMD use very different motherboards (though they usually both have many of the same features). And on top of that, different AMD and Intel chips may even need different boards!
@asaaasaaaa Thanks so much:D, saved my life, may i ask you, will these all work together? will an evga gtx 550 ti,sony optiarc 18x sata dvd rom drive, asus p8p67-m motherboard, an Intel i3-2120 processor, a hyper 212 plus cpu cooler, corsair vengence 8gb(2x4gb) DDR3 ram, Cooler master gx 750W PSU, Cooler master HAF ATX mid tower case and an 250 GB 7200 RPM hard drive with 8MB cache?
Just for spite I've upgraded my pre-build list to include the 8120, couple that with 32GB of the Corsair 1600 and the Crossfire V mobo... well lololol, do I need to mention I also am getting two Asus GTX 560s :) Yea I won't need to upgrade for a LONG time...
@JayTheProgrammer are you talking about the cpu or mobo? dont really look into amd but the bulldozer doesnt have proper cores, the "8 core" has more likes 4-5 proper cores. it gets beaten by a 2500k in most benchmarks, but suppose if your happy with it
@ThatOneJaredAndLucas :L give up fanboy, i like amd because their cheap, i use their graphics cards but their cpu's arent as good as intel. admit it, stop being stuborn.
watch?v=5HNSwWKIuBY
in pretty much every benchmark the 2500k + 2600k wins. the ones the bulldozer wins in are like the pointless ones and by a small margin
@J0n3eR4M K I will admit I am an AMD fanboy, I used to like intel untill I realized how much they suck ass its basically like mac vs pc, intel is an over priced piece of shit like mac and AMD is inexpensive and twice the performance like pc, I just built a new pc with amd 8120, XFX 6870 ( possible getting another one ) 16gb skill ram, msi 990fxa-GD65 mobo ( military class ) 850w kingwin power supply and so on, my point being I can run All games on this rig so there for tell me about your pc
@ThatOneJaredAndLucas :L its nothing like pc vs mac, because in this case, the more expensive intel is better. i have a intel i7 2600k 16gb hyperX ram, msi z68a-g43 g3 xfx 6870 850 OCZ gold psu? so why are you asking about my rig?:L i can also run all games, the cpu doesnt make you run games better (unless you've got a single core celeron and a gtx 590, my cpu is faster at 3d renering, video editing, encoding and all editing
@J0n3eR4M I was on a budget, and I know the cpu doesn't run games faster.... I'm just gonna stop cause you have your opinion and I have mine, thats all that really matters am I right? :)
@slipknoter106 No sorry man only crossfire with that board, if you want both SLI and crossfire support you have to get either the sabertooth board or the crosshair board...
@jaroshus Dual CPU already exists, but is used for server purposes and not desktop\gaming purposes. Varies on compatibility, glitches and other issues for normal usage.
great vid. been about 5 years since i built my last comp. Fell out of the loop tech wise. Have had great results from asus mobos before so i checked out this video.. Gonna use a sabertooth mobo for my new AMD build!
I just bought the Sabertooth and a FX-6100. Now I heard its recommended to update the bios on the motherboard before installing the new Processor (AMD3+ CPUs)
@Jlowe258 I knew nothing about modern computers (still know next to nothing), learned what I needed to do my own build (the second computer I've owned since my childhood Commodore 128), chose Asus and Amd components, made plenty of newb mistakes and gamed on my Asus rig for nearly seven years. The latest games don't run as beautifully as they once did, but I can't tell you how good their tech support is. I never needed it. That's my testimony. Now I'm researching a new build with Asus and Amd.
@Jlowe258 I don't know much about the whole thing, but I've been buying from ASUS for about a year, and have been very happy with all of my purchases, I've yet to get a DOA, so I haven't had to call for service (But I buy through Newegg and they're good about service). But whatever you decide, I just thought I'd chip in.
@Jlowe258 I've never had problems with asus me and my 3 buddies built our computers at the same time and we all have Asus boards and haven't had a problem with any of them were going on 2 1/2 years now
I love the relationship AMD has with its board makers. For a few years it seemed like MSI was the golden boy. When I bought my ASUS M2n32 board 5 or 6 years ago, it was a typical scenario... one board maker starts run amok...so look for another. I struck GOLD with that M2n32-SLI Deluxe. Its still going strong today with much forum support. Matter of fact, Ive gone thru two PSU and three crappy graphics card to serve that same board. ASUS definitely getting my repeat business and then some.

(for fuck sake, dude talked about 3 similar mobos like a boss for a solid half an hour without ever boring me!!) GIVE DUDE MOAR MONEYS! No joke, dude just sold me on asus/amd, and I've been an xfx/intel guy for a while now...
Wow, awesome job blue/purpleish shirt ASUS guy! I've never been so thrilled by a 30 minute super nerd video before. 15:55 was funny; dumbass black shirt asks blue guy "Do you know what controller those are running?" Um, yes, blue shirt guy does know... mmkay...
@mewimi I have a cheapie 4x PCIE SATA card for my 3 ODDs...I run a 3TB RAID 10 and 160GBs of SSDs in a RAID 0...I have a Coolermaster ATCS 840 case that is a FUCKING BEAST and I love it....tri GTX 260s, AMD 965, MSI 790i board...16GB GSkill Ripjaw RAM.....watercooled with a 360x120, 240x120, and a 120x120 mm set of rads
@josephoo7 I didnt push for water cooling I definitely dont need it haha. But my setup is 2 ODD, 1x SSD, 2x 500GB RAID 1, 2x 2T RAID 1 and I think Im forgetting something but w/e lol
There's something for every level of understanding in these NewEgg TV segments. They can be fairly long, but they're packed with geekity goodness. Well done.
Quick question for J.J. What do I do when my uber expensive mobo fails do to a simple factory oversight? Do I call Asus's wonderful tech support team, or do I cut out the middle man and just burn my wallet?
Anyone know if a am3 processor can be used on a am3+ socket motherboard, if anyone knows please reply to this comment using @smedley895 or the reply button so i see it :D
I'm a nerd, I watched the whole thing and was interested the whole time =/. I just did an AMD build last year, so I'll wait till ivy bridge comes out to see what I'll go for. I hope AMD makes a good comeback bulldozer though.
I plan on using PCIE slots 1 and 3 so I can get two cards in x16 but I have a concern about the top PCIE slot. With the below linked card plugged in what are my chances of still being able to use the small black PCI slot below for the also below linked adapter ?
Video Card - NewEgg Produt ID: N82E16814127589
PCI Adapter - NewEgg Product ID: N82E16815201035
Again, my concern is losing that PCI slot with a card in the top PCIE slot.
Links removed because of youtube, why I gave ID's.
So you are able to Place a Am3 into these new motherboards? I have a AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition, So that should be able to work in...lets say the "CrossHair V Formula"?
he did a bad job of describing compatibility, the new bulldozer cpus will only fit into an am3+ socket whether it be a 700 series, 800 series, or 900 series chipset. however, u can put an old am3 cpu in a new am3+ socket, allowing u to upgrade to a bulldozer down the road.
I really cant wait until I get my new Crosshair V and Gskill ripjaws 8gb 2133 ram! (buying from newegg) On the graphics cards, I have been looking at the ROG Matrix gtx 580, and I am wondering if those cards are too large to run triple SLI on this board?
This sound like a beast of a build. I would advise you only consider 2 way SLI while 3 way is support you would really need to overclock the system to really get close to needing the CPU speed to not bottleneck the performance of 3 GTX580's. Additionally unless you have multi monitors you would be much better off considering an upgrade to the sound card like a Xonar Xense or something else instead of a 3rd GPU. Thanks for the view and support.
@ASUSIlluminati I am doing a total upgrade, and I will be purchasing a Zambezi 8 core when they become available.. I am upgrading from an Asus M4N82 Deluxe SLI board with Phenom II x4 955BE, Gskill DDRII 1200 and 2 Geforce GTX 295's in quad SLI. a 650w Antec 3 rail PSU and a PC Power and Cooling 1kw PSU in a Silverstone TJ07 case.. I would hope that those 2 580's in DX11 would at least match the performance of my quad SLI setup I have now in DX10. can you confirm this? thanx for the info.
@ASUSIlluminati PS .. I have a Viewsonic 22" 120hz 3d LCd monitor and an Epson Powerlite Pro cinema 7500UB 1080p projector attatched to my PC and I have an Nvidia 3d vision kit I use with my monitor .. Im looking for power to drive these displays which is why I built the beast of a rig I have now, and why I am looking for a new DX11 beast. I will then retire my current rig to a 2nd PC I can use for 3ds Max, Truespace, Crysis, Crysis2 and Unreal engine modding in my spare time.
is the crosshair5 compatible with this cpu:AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Thuban. i want to build my computer and i am ordering everything from newegg.
can you confirm that i should buy this processor 2. file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/user/Desktop/my%20computer/Newegg.com%20-%20Computer%20Parts,%20PC%20Components,%20Laptop%20Computers,%20LED%20LCD%20TV,%20Digital%20Cameras%20and%20more!.htm
companys should have like a built in voltmeter on the mobo or as an attachment to the little voltage readout point a really small one thatd be badass instead of having to use a big clunky one and having to unplug and replug it idk lol
This JJ dude knows his shit for real, having chosen the M5A99x over the ASRock 990FX Extreme4, it was reassuring to have someone that laid it all out and left me in no doubt I'd made the right choice. Nuff respect JJ!!

defan88 6 months ago

RandomAdrian19 7 months ago
@RandomAdrian19 AM3 will drop right into the AM3+

I may have missed it....but is the ASUS M5A97 EVO SLi ready?
hansaru 7 months ago
he did a bad job of describing compatibility, the new bulldozer cpus will only fit into an am3+ socket whether it be a 700 series, 800 series, or 900 series chipset. however, u can put an old am3 cpu in a new am3+ socket, allowing u to upgrade to a bulldozer down the road.

I really cant wait until I get my new Crosshair V and Gskill ripjaws 8gb 2133 ram! (buying from newegg) On the graphics cards, I have been looking at the ROG Matrix gtx 580, and I am wondering if those cards are too large to run triple SLI on this board?
terrac1de 7 months ago
@terrac1de

I would hope that those 2 580's in DX11 would at least match the performance of my quad SLI setup I have now in DX10. can you confirm this? thanx for the info.
terrac1de 7 months ago
@ASUSIlluminati PS .. I have a Viewsonic 22" 120hz 3d LCd monitor and an Epson Powerlite Pro cinema 7500UB 1080p projector attatched to my PC and I have an Nvidia 3d vision kit I use with my monitor .. Im looking for power to drive these displays which is why I built the beast of a rig I have now, and why I am looking for a new DX11 beast. I will then retire my current rig to a 2nd PC I can use for 3ds Max, Truespace, Crysis, Crysis2 and Unreal engine modding in my spare time.

companys should have like a built in voltmeter on the mobo or as an attachment to the little voltage readout point a really small one thatd be badass instead of having to use a big clunky one and having to unplug and replug it idk lol
