The depiction of hell as Fire and Brimstone (in my opinion) isn't literal. I would envision hell as something more along the lines of being without something you had the chance to have, but because of pride, opted not to have. The guilt or spite resulting from that is hell.

You are missing several points. The first is that even though a small amount of people owned slaves. Slave ownership boosted the economy and brought in vast wealth. The secondary benefit was from white superiority. A free white could order a slave regardless of who own them to fetch and tote as needed as long as that didn't intere with the needs of the owner. But it's ridiculous to try and claim that there was no demand for slave labor in America. If you have a huge plantation, and you need hundreds of workers in the fields, it's simple economics that you're gonna take slave labor over paid employees as long as there is no moral objection to slave labor.

This passage (Matt. 10:34) is about the Lord Jesus Christ and faith in him alone. The sword & trouble in the text refer to those who accept Jesus as Lord and those who don't - it cuts (causes division) and hurts when those we love don't believe but we are to stay strong in the faith no matter what. The message of Jesus is and always has been about faith (Eph. 2:8 & 9; Heb. 11) and love for one another. Find a church that teaches this message and you'll find real peace and joy.

The depiction of hell as Fire and Brimstone (in my opinion) isn't literal. I would envision hell as something more along the lines of being without something you had the chance to have, but because of pride, opted not to have. The guilt or spite resulting from that is hell.

You are missing several points. The first is that even though a small amount of people owned slaves. Slave ownership boosted the economy and brought in vast wealth. The secondary benefit was from white superiority. A free white could order a slave regardless of who own them to fetch and tote as needed as long as that didn't intere with the needs of the owner. OK, they may have had more cargo than they could sell sometimes and would blackmail farmers like you say, I don't know. But it's ridiculous to try and claim that there was no demand for slave labor in America. If you have a huge plantation, and you need hundreds of workers in the fields, it's simple economics that you're gonna take slave labor over paid employees as long as there is no moral objection to slave labor.

As it happense if you read the 18th Amendment to the constitution you will note that it only abolishes slavery on a limited basis. Untrue! He got his freedom such as it was at 5 years old. Lincoln didn't abolish slavery which you didn't know. In fact, I would call your attention to the Emacipation proclaimation which freed slaves he didn't have power to free but the ones he kept in bondage were the ones that didn't suceed from the union. If you want a reference I would suggest you look up Norfork Va where the slaves weren't freed. I think you need to go back to school.

They were facing mounting pressures, mainly from abolitionists (who were few except in the black community because they figured if they were going to be killed they might as well die for a cuase).
The main reason the North fought in the civil war was economic.

Old Abe' didn't care whether the slaves were freed or not (though he probably did prefer them free) and the general attitude of whites concerning slavery was accepting, although in the North they viewed it as wrong (though they still were pretty racist towards blacks especially when we started competing for jobs).
The US govt favored abolition for economic reasons.

Remember under the 13th Amendment to the constitution it is unlawful to make you a slave unless there is due process of law. For common man that means they can't revoke your rights without a trial after that you can become a slave.

The solution to all our problems is education. It doesn't have to be formal. One can take it upon themselves to read and research and become a well informed VIGILANT citizen. The bottom line is that what Wright was saying is that Barack knows what it means to be an outcast both within and without his own people. He is drawing parallells to say that is nothing new. No one is saying that Italians can't be dark because they can and since everyone has African Origins it's not suprising. However, the closer you are to Africa the more African you will look. Case in point India. No, doubt the people of India are ethnically closer to Africa but they have different hues.

You are trying to make people of color white and it just won't wash. Jesus is Hebrew and Hebrews are Afro-Arab mixes. What you fail to realize is African people run the gambit too. From light brown to cole black. The hair texture changes in peoples are as different too. All Africa isn't the same. Jesus was black and the Romans were white. They just were not Ayrians. However, they were white. That's the bottom line.

I shutter when I hear about chickens coming home to roost because what if they really do and the chickens are not of your ethnicity. No one group of people have the market on discrimination or suffering or injustice. It would be wonderful for the nation as a whole to come together, we need a solution to the problem not to waller in the past. Then there is always the option of leaving if this country is soo damn bad leave.

If you study the formation of language you will understand the regions those languages come out of. This will give you a road map to tell where the people originated from. Jesus was not white.

Actually it does matter because Jesus was about stopping oppression. At that time it was the Romans but all opressors aren't white. Wright points that out in the same sermon, where he said GD America. So if you want to speak you had better speak with full knowledge.

Right now he is talking about America, later on he talked about everyone else but the bottom line is if America isn't doing it then there would be no need to preach against it.
