@Samcha14@hipcrio2 Can I call both of your arguments, the Ignorance Doctrine as basically what your arguments are at bottom is that Sam had to be kept in the dark. The competition makes no sense at all if it was merely about opening Devil's Gate(which took no more talent than the ability to walk across a field and stick a gun in a hole). Sam knew nothing of Azazel's plan as such there was nothing to distract him from.

@Samcha14 though inventive that explanation doesn't work for me. The Apocalypse was supposed to originate from the turning of the Father(the righteous man). Yes, Dean was fated to be both the cause and the cure but obviously in Hell, the Prophecy was not well known or was misunderstood. The Demons seemed to believe that Sam was destined to lead a Demon army. Why would Demons threaten Satan's true vessel, if they knew and not gather themselves for the capture &/or destruction of Dean, Michael's

Can someone, anyone explain the purpose of the winner takes all competition between the special kids, if Sam was fated to be Lucifers vessel? And why wasn't Lucifers vessel part of that competition?

@jasonkingkel , bascially yellow eyes used it as a diversion to the true purpose for Sam. It was a distraction from knowing that he was lucifers vessel because if he knew that he was his vessel then he would find out other stuff such as killing Lilith is the last seal etc... that could jepordise yellow eyes plans.

@parlay85 , Tbh I doubt it. It seems to me that the whole trapping lucifer finale was a scapegoat because the producers had created an over powered enemy. I doubt they'd bring him back because they'd have to find another way to trap him which would be complex. It is the last season though, it could end with lucifer as a final enemy. Even if lucifer isn't in season 6, from the other trailer it looks like some part of him, or some evil survived in sam.

@jasonkingkel sam wasnt surpose to open hells gate, he was surpose to die so that dean would make the deal with the cross road demon and go to hell, so that he would break the first seal. so the competition was to ensure that sum one would kill sam and distract them from their true plan. lucifers vessel nick wasnt part of the competition cuz he was not a true vessel and had no part in the opening of hells gate,
