Braveheart is such a great film. As populist and historically inaccurate as they come, but still such a cracking good film. Plus, technically both my mother and father's names are Scottish so I can just pretend to be Scottish like how some Americans pretend to be Irish whenever I watch it.

@carny15, I think that it's a new medieval 2 total war mod. Each mod introduces different units, and the old units represent the coat of arms and color of the country they fight for. Noticed all of the English soldiers, they truely do look like men of the British isles with the uniforms and armor.
I mean these are mans armed with billhooks (in German "Hippenträger" I don't know the english word), which got a better armament. (When units get another armament you can see the difference on the battlefield.
Wow scots pike militia owned feudal knights! (well obviously). Ahahah infantry with spears are always biased, they are effective for head-to-head battle against cavalry as well as infantry.
Tip: Use it to charge against enemy's general, odds are you can easily kill the general :)

The spearwall, (we call it the Shiltron up here) had a formation similar to a Hedgehog and it was one of the Scottish army's trademark form style against the English cavalry

His idiocy was one of the primary reason why the Jacobite Rebellions failed and proved that if they had ever actually succeeded militarily the Stuart line probably would have failed as a monarchy, although from a highlanders pov I wouldn't say the Hanovarians were exactly wonderful leaders. The whole Proscription act of 1746 is proof of that since it punished even the clans who supported britain.

Prince Charlie probably would have kept a united Britain although the chances of things such as the Proscription Act forming would have been far less likely I doubt Scotland would have been independent as unfortunately that was not truly the goal of the Jacobite rebelions. But we will never really know what would have happened and any discussion of it is purely speculation
@MateusVIII Actually I already addressed this by saying I also consider Robert the Bruce to be one of the greatest along with Wallace. It's true the Bruce did more for Scottish independence but Wallace's rebellion was a big part of what kick started the movement and besides Robert the Bruce was in a much better position to do more for the cause as he would later be king of the nation. Having said that I agree Braveheart is an awesome movie but wildly inaccurate.

I recently downloaded medieval 2 total war( Very impressed with it, by the way) and I was wondering if there might be a way to get your general by himself, in front of your army, as if he was leading the charge. I understand this would be foolish for everything except RP purposes...
It's almost impossible to get him alone as it requires you to kill off most of the unit however if your commander is a captain then you could use the wedge formation. Wedge will put your man in the front of the charge.

The Scots used this to their advantage and pushed the English back, this also destroyed the power of English Heavy Cavalry. The Scots pushed them back and back till they fell into the river and drowned due to their heavy armour. Stamford Bridge was when the lone Viking stood his ground against the English.

That may have been the units used, but in reality it was England's best knight versus Scotland's best knight. And Scotland's best knight just so happened to be Robert De Bruce.
The English said to put up both best knights, and the winner of that 1v1 would decide the victors of the entire battle (saving many lives). Scotland won, but England didn't live up to their bargain and still attacked. Yet England still lost again.

That may have been the units used, but in reality it was England's best knight versus Scotland's best knight. And Scotland's best knight just so happened to be Robert De Bruce.
The English said to put up both best knights, and the winner of that 1v1 would decide the victors of the entire battle (saving many lives). Scotland won, but England didn't live up to their bargain and still attacked. Yet England still lost again.
