  • It would be nice if you told us what we are seeing at the beginning of the video. Is this a simulation? Is it a superheated gas with strong field lines in it?

  • Magnetic fields is not chaotic. :) chaos is what the human eye sees. The magnetic field takes information from the environment.

  • wow

  • Very interesting I want to know more! thnks for putting this on youtube! :D

  • I hope this doesn't erase my hard drive.

  • Just stunning!!!!!

  • Shouldn't somebody call Ghost busters?

Quite clearly ignoring the magnetic wave functions of all the Waves from Radar, T.V. Stations, Radio Stations, Mobile phones etc. That these would show enormous turbulence and not pretty, pretty sine waves as they are normally represented.

Not relevant maybe, but truth is more interesting still than artistic impressions.

  • I don't think you watched the whole clip.

  • No, but 75% of the video didn't represent the totally chaotic flux of all magnetic fields. These fields do not exist as separate entities, it is not possible to isolate individual fields since all fields combine vectorialy in magnitude.

Why should I have looked further?

  • "magnetic field computer generated illustrated magnetic field lines"

    exactly megaman

  • WoW!

  • holy shit! o_O

  • Is this lagging for me too?

  • kill it! NOW!

  • To set things straight, this video is a 3D CGI visualisation of how magnetic fields could look like. It is not real, just a mix of video footage with computer generated imagery.

  • the truth is a buzz kill.

  • looks like it was made by artists who are clueless about magnetic fields

  • I think it's a brilliant example of graphic design/conceptual work/post production. I love it! Even if it is a genuine scientific video...there was a lot of work put into it. Well done to the producers.

  • The original film was much longer I remember watching it while drunk, late night on the BBC! The BBC used to have many good programmes for stoners and drunks and coming of E late at night... lots of animal documentarys and good sceince programes, but now its all shitting holiday crap or politics boring if ur sober or pissed!

  • it was nice to see all the collors and loops... but it didnt help me at all....

  • This is very pretty, and an interesting representation of SOLAR magnetic field lines.

But it's somewhat inappropriate as that room is NOT the sun - it's magnetic field lines would be more smooth, less tangled, and would not be moving much at all.

The film is partially accurate, but not accurate enough.

    - This is in a room, not the SUN.

    - Field lines are NEVER open ended, they always meet up with something. Always.

Anyway, the effort is applaudable at least.

  • HOW DO U DO THIS?

  • who cares!!!!!

    its totally savage!!!!!

    ;)

  • You fuckin' idiots! Nobody said that the magentic fields you see in the video are real(magnetic fields are invisible, you can't see them). This video was made by scientists usign computer-generated imagery to give people an idea how a magnetic field looks and functions. The world is full of stupid people that just don't GET IT!

  • i agree with u!!!

    people are stupid these days

  • True, but not so much outright stupid as people are just very (and frighteningly) gullible. You can not believe what you see or hear just because someone puts "Baby with 10 heads!" or "scientists make magnetic fields visible". Massive amount of available "information" on the Internet = both good and bad.

  • does anybody know how they approximate the shapes/paths? is it simply by imitating the sun's flares, etc.? how do they arrive at the variety of "hairballs"? and I missed the explanation of the small red balls rising up in that chamber...anybody know what those are supposed to be?

  • sounds like she says "hairy balls" at 00:45 HAHAHA

  • God damn, I thought they were real.

  • Cool!

  • innocent used to link to good videos!

if you want to see the shape of a real magnetic field hold a sheet of paper over a magnet and sprinkle iron filings on top it will show up the shape! it works and isn't fake like this.

  • like i already said...it's not fake...it's imagined. it's not pretending to be real...

  • thats the 3rd most strangest vid i have ever saw on youtube (but i forgot the 1st and 2nd most weridist

  • it's not 'fake'. it's imagined.

  • awsome animation

  • yeah, this is a cool ANIMATION of electrostatic fields but I think a lot of people are circulating this video believing it to be undoctored, scientific footage.

  • Amazing. Funny though, it looks like a Michel Gondry movie.

  • Everyone, this is another case of real scientists making something very well, and real idiots overstating the claims and ruining everything for everyone. this video is a COMPUTER GENERATED GRAPHICAL REPRESENTATION. It is an animation that very well depicts how magnetic fields travel and move, but it is just a drawing essentially. It is very accurate and useful tool to spatially describe field behavior but that is all it is.

  • Real scientists didn't make anything here. They talked about magnetic fields on the sun and some artists decided to imagine what their lab equipment would like if they draw magnetic field lines over it and animate them to be turbulent. Many of the items in the video aren't even magnetic.

  • are you saying graphic designers cant be scientists? hahaha... please.

  • 有那么点意思,呵呵。

  • The video looks good. But the description is a mess. Can someone proofread the description? It is hard to understand with all the repeated paragraphs and incomplete sentences.

  • A me mi pare na strunzata.....

  • Does anyone can clarify for sure if this is real or a Fake?

  • "Animated photographs, using sound-controlled CGI and 3D compositing."

  • I bet the description box will do that... let me check... oh, yep it does. Perhaps reading will do you some good.

  • Yes You are rigth reading will always do some good ;) I didn't notice the description box...

  • Scientist made that? So how comes that they do not know that magnetic field lines are always closed?

  • Geordi La Forge, anyone? :)

  • I can't see shit Captain!

  • put some iron filings on a paper and throw a magnet underneath, you can stare at field lines all day...

  • "Animated photographs, using sound-controlled CGI and 3D compositing."

Says that in the descript, yet, Im sure these are just renderings, while they did actually find a wat to make them visible in a NASA Lab

  • they did a great job with these photos

  • you guys realize this is cgi right?

  • This is an artist's rendition of what magnetic fields could look like if we could see them. It is not intended to be "real." The art is inspired by the words and culture of the scientists studying the sun's magnetic fields. From artist website: Magnetic Movie - exhibited at Brilliant Noise - consolidates Semiconductor's short films, depicting imaginary magnetic fields dancing across empty research labs at the Space Science Laboratory at Berkeley.

  • unga unga me know how worky work.

  • Listen to Rstanderr777 guys, he's obviously seen magenetic fields before... he's like a superhero or something.

  • Ferro Fluid, Magnetic Viewing Film, FEMM...

  • Oh sorry mate, who are u? scientist of the century?. Fields will allways look like onion shells? because u have also conducted these tests? no u havent!. stick to looking at bits of cheese in "My first telescope" before commenting on the nature of magnetic fields which you clearly have no idea about.

  • blah blah blah...

  • Of course it's not real, lol, and read the films comment section ..

  • Nice renderings :-)

    -Scott

  • No, no, it's just a visualization of the fields that were present in the space at the time of the filming. This is clarified in the comment for the video.

  • The fact that it´s being debatted fake or not is pretty terrifying, but I guess natural selection will have it´s way...

  • At what part of visual illustration of magnetic fields did it suddenly become fake. U are a fucking moron, please comment on something when u have a clue. who said anything about changing the laws of physics?

  • It's not supposed to be VISIBLE - it's just a representation of magnetic fields to make them understandable!! Doh!

  • Did none of you watch the whole thing? at the end it states the video was a commission

  • hmmm it's seems to be unreal..but it's amazing!!

  • this definetly isn't real, at 15sec were the files come out of the metal frame, in practise it would not happen, it would wrap around onto the conducting frame, they use this principle in transformers to increase the effiency, it's A-Level physics, i know because i am just finish a-level physics.

  • is this actually real? surely if this was real it would be one of the biggest breaks in scince for medecine and stuff and surely you would see the constant magnetic field lines of the earth???

  • of course it is some kind of artistic interpretation.

    but it looks cool nonetheless

  • FAKE, no serius reply about this in the scientific commuity

  • anyone else hear the camera creaking liek someones moving it and the plastic is creaking

  • Actually, that sounds like signals I've heard captured by radio telescopes from pulsars and other stellar radio sources.

  • nasa my ass, this is some artist baloney. how the hell could this get linked with nasa?

  • Maybe its based on real readings, but I doubt magnetic fields have "shadows". Still way way cool

  • this is like...

    woooow!

  • this is an art film - it showed up in the digital film festival world a few months back.

  • Supposedly this is from NASA

  • FAKE ....

  • if this is real

    wow
