WML had trials in 1963 CBS canceled one episode suddenly for Kennedy assassination news. Dorothy Kilgallen missed 10 of the first 18 broadcasts and taping sessions due to hospitalization for substance abuse; circumstantial evidence suggests G-T came close to replacing her with Phyllis Newman. During Arlene's recovery, Dorothy shared the panel for the only time with Phyllis (her last appearance until 1966) and with Kitty Carlisle, who would temp on the panel after Dorothy's death.
In late May 1963, Arlene nearly died in a rainy-day, wet-road, head-on auto collision somewhere on Long Island. Two other motorists died. (Arlene was notoriously accident prone during Sunday WML: broken bones, eye problems, car accident.) She suffered internal injuries and a broken collar bone. When Arlene returned to WML later in June, she had lost weight and wore her left arm in a sling for a total of 5 broadcasts and taping sessions.
One of my top 5 WML episodes (on YouTube) is of Eamonn substituting for John. He's brutal!!

@kcarter619 Here's one segment -- it doesn't have my favorite line in it -- but I'll keep looking. Try searching False Teeth Charlotte....
How do I post links?

@soulierinvestments
incidentally, she seems to have been pretty lucky, with all those accidents, to have survived well into her 90s, eh?
