@LordWellington15 You're welcome, asshat. Because these movies are only about 15 years old. Don't look now, but Hong Kong's gone back to China. Hate to shock you, there.
@BigEyesSmallMouth Some of us never have seen them before. Just because you are an ignorant retard doesnt mean you have to spoil it for the rest of us.
@LordWellington15 When you turn twelve someday and realize that the entire plot of the "Sharpe" series DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND SIMMERSON, you'll probably calm down a bit. And also? This is the Internet. People can say pretty much what they want. I hope you know just how much I value your opinion--right down to the last soggy 2-ply square.
@BigEyesSmallMouth Calm down. It was all a joke you stupid bastard. I have seen these series 100 times over. So in the future learn to control yourself and not spoil it for others. You sir, made yourself look like such a fool.
@LordWellington15 First of all, I'm a woman. "Sir". Secondly, if that's a joke in your universe, I weep for you. Thirdly, *I* am not the one to calm down. And last, do cram it.
There is a good reason for that. Berdan's men were in green for the exact same reason as these men. Green was the color of "riflemen" back then and thus became the color of sharpshooters and you might say special forces. The Green Berets was for more modern special forces is for the same reason. These "chosen men" depicted in this series represent the ancestors of modern special forces.
It's such a pity that for all the historical accuracy of this series obviously the makers of this series never went hiking - where the hell did they get their tent city from? A cart wagon for the two camp followers would be appropriate.
@Pluginbaby9777 I know but I like to embrace stereotypes and romanticisms. It always disappoints me when people say "not all Germans were nazis" or "Napoleon wasn't really an evil megalomaniac."

yeah, the europeans learned the lesson of sharpshooters from us. the british found our snipers with the kentucky long rifles to be a damned inconvenience
In the book Sir Henry commands a battalion of 800-1000 accompanied by a Spanish battalion of the same size. Slavery was losing ground in places, though, abrondarbit.
The Abolitionist movement was already gaining momentum in the British Empire at the time. The Empire ceased it in 1833, while the US 13th Amendment, doing the same, was declared in force in late 1865.
Apparently, DNA evidence proves that Sally Hemings had children by Thomas Jefferson.
Slave owners often sexually exploit their slaves. Consensual sex or not, did she really have any choice, being his 'property"?
Just a quick point of fact: Britain abolished slavery in 1807, so by the standards of the day it was regarded by abhorrent and illegal and it is a mistake to believe that "it was all perfectly normal".
I agree that as its base level, US history is childlike in its simplicity. But British history - as with any human endeavour - is littered by shady and corrupt individuals. Am reading Gulliver's Travels at the moment which is of course a satirical attack on Britain in the eighteenth century.
cuz the british started that tradition of the forester sort of corps the pold (albeit ficticious) units of foresters like robin hood started the tradition that allows people to like sharpe, the common man in a pretty good position
why isnt Harris an officer in intelligence or something like that?
seems kind of a waste that hes a rifleman.

Yes, I have read Gulliver's Travels as well- and agree with much of it, too.
Swift's disgust at hypocrisy is great- British hypocrisy or anyone else's...all human beings can be 'Yahoos.'
He also points out that many of the people we are told are heroes were nothing of the kind.
A glance at British history reveals great glory, yet ugliness too.
Yet I love Britain because she has largely faced up to her mistakes, which requires moral courage and integrity...not self-justifying myths.
