Ian Malcoms character in the book is far deeper. Jeff Goldblum was the right actor for the role but I felt his character should have been what it was like in the book. In addition Hammond was more of a bastard in the book.

First off I must say :57-1:01 is priceless. Next, to address what you said, Crichton killed off Malcolm in the original book. The second book, he is brought back after Crichton writes how he was in a coma (although the original book still claimed he died). In both movies, Malcolm is not killed off, and he isn't in the book Lost World either. And both books are much better than the movies, although the original JP is a brilliant as well.

Yes, he died in the original book. Crichton brought him back to life after deciding to write a sequal and further incorporate Biosyn and Lewis Dodgeson in another great book. Slipped into a coma for that long, and survived, my ass. However I still enjoy reading the second book.
