thanks for posting ! your video inspired me to want to create my own frankencycle out of an 83 Puch mini maxi with a 36v 500w motor off eby new. the bike will be powered by a 6v step up converter from an antique ww2 military radio telephone i used to own. it is a 6v-300v unregulated motor/generator. my newest update is on my profile. my next video up date is going to be in response to this video as it is my favorite my qwestion is : did you have to get a home made title for the forkencycle ?
rwg42985 you are inspired! I NEVER thought it possible to pay for the build with proceeds from selling the scrap metal. Hats off to you sir.
A marketing suggestion. Don't play that song. "Forever" by Aardvark is abused on Youtube by mostly wide eyed high schoolers who think that an explanation isn't necessary. Viewers like us just roll our eyes and move on. I almost missed this.
You are a fucking genius i was gonna make on with the wheel chair i got cheap but man yours is bigger than mine would ever be ,you made what i dream of making ,hats off man hats way off to the side!!!
Awesome!!! imagine if it had some sort of bedini charging system to constantly charge the batteries? im thinking about building a generator from parts of a modern bike charging system... by fixing strong magnets to rotor (will be using a set of 18 coils which are coiled around magnets themselves) and wiring a couple as trigger coils, construct the switching/charging circuit and bobs your uncle as they say.. with any luck...
@angelb650650 that's what everyone else does.... i think having a clutch and gears is perhaps the future for electric bikes once they have enough power in the batteries/motor, and even on-board generators...
unfortuneately, since you are using the stock clutch and gear box, the engine is now about one fourth as effecient as if it were direct drive. part of the beauty of electric drive is that you get around all the heat and energy loss of drive trains. if you would take that bike engine off and throw it away, then attach the elec. motor directly to the rear wheel, it would work a lot better and have longer range. heck then you could even squeeze in another battery in front of the motor!
@bulletman100 "Since you are using the stock clutch and gear box, the engine is now about one fourth as efficient as if it were direct drive" A clutch once engaged is 100% efficient and a chain runs around 95% efficient
and you need to read an engineering text book rather than posting nonsense
@fizzguts go back and look up the gearbox in that textbook your dad gave you that you put on the shelf and never opened. The gearbox is where you lose it all due 2 friction and heat. The reason machines like locomotives use elec. motors is not to use a huge gearbox and transmission to hook the diesel to the wheels. Too complicated and power sapping. The reason to use an elec. motor is direct drive, since it doesn't have to idle it needs no clutch! Since you mentioned books, go read'em.
@fizzguts go read your dad's books on the difference between horsepower at the flywheel and brake horsepower, after it goes through the drivetrain, measured at the drive wheel. no need to apologize for your mistake. It's all in good fun. read up and thanks for your post! hope the next one works out better!
@fizzguts Oh btw i forgot about the extra dead weight of the unnecessary bottom end of the bike motor left in the frame. About 100 more dead weight to haul around that you dont need!!! hook motor up to rear wheel and end it! but thanks anyway for your post. And remember, bright people comment on the VIDEO, and small people troll youtube looking to comment on OTHER COMMENTS. have a nice life, and remember not to carry around to much dead weight! Just leave your brain at home!!! BYE NOW.
@bulletman100 LOL Truly owned and now you are running Cluck cluck cluck
"since you are using the stock clutch and gear box, the engine is now about one fourth as effecient as if it were direct drives" Still complete moose drool and always will be and the one thing you won't discuss. I'd love to see the motor producing 100 shaft HP and only putting out 25hp at the wheel The gearbox glowing white hot would be a sight Bwahahahaha!
Ha! You my friend are a madman, fit for the lunatic asylum. I LOVE this bike/project, thanks for posting, I was engrossed all the way through, smiling at the bruised knuckles and just how ugly the bike was getting, if you meld a CB and a Forklift truck you cant expect much in terms of a stunner.
Great find while researching the electric bike. Do you have any videos of it moving?
I have a Mini 40 Mile Busettii bike and it runs 50-55 miles on one battery charge. I also tried my friends Vortex Mountain bike by Busettii. It ROCKS ! Can get up to 32 mph top speed, and on one charge that bike set the new record of 86 miles. Hope it becomes a big hit. In California many people like Busettii because they cost around $1700 but can go 50--86 miles on one charge depending on model. Maria in Cali
@hookuspookus529 a negro bike? that doesnt even make sense...this guy is way more accomplished than you...lets see some vids of your achievements,oh wait there arent any...sounds to me like your bitter because your life is almost over and you have done nothing...good day mr hugenbottom
it's interesting that electric motors can't really wear out : ) AC and with the right bearing it will literally virtually last forever.
I would probably have tried direct drive instead of mess with the clumsy gearbox.
then you could have batteries in the frame.
if you want really elegant 2 wheel electric then start with a sturdy bicycle and put in two powerful hub motors. the weight class of motorcycles is mainly due to the archaic technology they use. an electric doesn't need to weigh alot

@rwg42985 I think what mikes getting at is that converting the energy in coal or oil in a power station into heat which drives a turbine which drives a generator which sends power through the grid into your house then into your batteries and then finally into your electric motor and output as rotary motion is quite convoluted and may be wasteful to a point where there is no net gain. But who knows, only somebody who's done the maths i guess.
@mikedrazen HMMM what a dumbass. I think it cost me 40 cents to recharge my cycleand it goes 40 miles . Think it cost me 7.50$ in my car to go 40 miles and pollutes 100x more then my electric Cycle .I get my refills form Nuke plant near me and solar .So your point is 100% wrong.
Hub motors are far more efficient and MUCH more simple. And are designed for motorbikes, depending on the one you get of course. The controllers are much simpler too! People use the term electric motor too loosely. There are vastly different types of electric motors with very different sets of torque curves. If you mean flat torque curve then this simply means that if a load that is constant torque in nature needs the same torque at all speeds then the motor can provide it. It does not mean that is what the torque of the motor is. If you need a visual of what am I trying to say then let me know.

I don't mean to break your bubble or anything, especially after cramming that large motor and forklift controler in there but, most EV bikes are having much better luck just running direct drive from motor to chain to rear sprocket. Saves on much weight, and that is very important on an EV of any kind. Great fab work by-the-way.
you still need to be a electrician though the wiring seems complex you also need security so the thing doesnt runaway emergency shut down you never know ...
well done!,I have used electric fork lifts to push start tractor & trailers before, the motor should have more than enough torque to run thru the gears and maintain the speed, must be nice to have someone give you a working forklift traction controll resistor assembly & harness,I would not be a bit surprised if the bike exceeded 100mph in high gear.
That gear box looks pretty big and heavy. You could use one of the many harley style trannys. They're smaller and probably much lighter. A used one perhaps? Save on weight?
great idea there! you still used the crankcase with transmission that way the electric motor doesn't need to drawout much power from the batteries as compared to directly linking it to the wheel sprocket. genius!
You're welcome, it took me a couple days to figure out how to find it. I thought it was the band "Wall of Voodoo". Sounds just like same guy singing....guess not-

you cant run a motorcycle on a motor, you need an engine, it's called motorcycle

Excellent work, well done. Yea, I like the first Back To The Future, also.

I don't mean to break your bubble or anything, especially after cramming that large motor and forklift controler in there but, most EV bikes are having much better luck just running direct drive from motor to chain to rear sprocket. Saves on much weight, and that is very important on an EV of any kind. Great fab work by-the-way.

that like 1 milion watts ?? right orr what it cant be thaT MUCH
AmericansSexualPreds 2 years ago
no, that was a Back to the Future movie reference. You need 1.21 gigawatts and be traveling at 88 miles per hour to be able to travel through time
ferraridriver16 2 years ago
hah yed that would be too much for and engine hhuh wayy to much

maybe this is why aramco have sold 1000000 barrels less of oil everyone is using electric.

you still need to be a electrician though the wiring seems complex you also need security so the thing doesnt runaway emergency shut down you never know ...

well done!,I have used electric fork lifts to push start tractor & trailers before, the motor should have more than enough torque to run thru the gears and maintain the speed, must be nice to have someone give you a working forklift traction controll resistor assembly & harness,I would not be a bit surprised if the bike exceeded 100mph in high gear.

That gear box looks pretty big and heavy. You could use one of the many harley style trannys. They're smaller and probably much lighter. A used one perhaps? Save on weight?
Great WORK!!!

great idea there! you still used the crankcase with transmission that way the electric motor doesn't need to drawout much power from the batteries as compared to directly linking it to the wheel sprocket. genius!
keekaykorapsa 3 years ago
outstanding improvision you reutilze everything
kept the batteries on a low cg it reminds me of my bike boggs.

I see you have made time travel possible with that mess since it has a flux capacitor on it Ha-Ha

You're welcome, it took me a couple days to figure out how to find it. I thought it was the band "Wall of Voodoo". Sounds just like same guy singing....guess not-

For such a rusty pile of parts that is truly a thing of beauty. I am incredibly impressed (and more than just a little jealous).
I especially enjoyed the cleaning up and rebuilding the motor. That was... well... amazing.
