I am watching Portland Timbers - FC Dallas as we speak from my computer in Sweden (2-0 at the moment) and i am very thrilled with your fans. Are they even comparable with the rest of the MLS teams? I havent seen an MLS game with such great fans, not even close. You guys rock. Plus, your green and white just like my favourite team in Sweden, Hammarby. You should search them out on YouTube!
Have a great one brothers... I hope you'll smack the sh*t out of Dallas..

I really hope that the MLS and USL set up a relegation and promotion system soon; at the end of each season the worst MLS team would get sent down to the USL to be replaced by the championship team of the USL...
Not much, but a lot more than your average European. More than an averige American at that. I watched about 20 games live via the mlsnet(dot)com stream last season. In the middle of the night mind you. So what are you so worked up about? I actually like the MLS. Go bitch at some hockey fans. Also, you might wanna improve your knowledge about the Finnish league.
@JuventinoHC Yeah. MLS. This team ISN'T MLS. It's USSF DIV 2. And of course they will have a major re-work before they begin league MLS play, so, bumped back down? Only time will tell, but I think that it's not likely. Class team with class fans, through and through. Take it from a fan of one of the best clubs in Europe. ; )
@meraogkows Yup, it really sucks that in our American sports leagues the last place team essentially gets "rewarded" by getting the first pick in the draft, except for the NBA draft lottery i guess. Relegation would be real motivation not to finish last while promotion would be real motivation to invest in a 2nd division team and try to make it a 1st division contender.
@pitis2flie I agree, but it's never gonna happen. If that were the case now teams with awesome support like Toronto and Philly would get sent down and teams that play in half empty stadiums like Dallas and Colorado would stay up.
I'm a Burnley fan, and I have to say, you guy were fantastic! Totally out played us on the pitch and in the stands. I'll keep an eye out for you guys in the next few years
like woww...i'm from trinidad and tobago....and even i cant wait till 2011 to see wat mls would be like with all these big fan groups...nordecke, section 8, rpb, u sector etc.
Section 8 Chicago hopes 2 c yall in da MLS soon... Thanx 4 all da help and support this season with the Sektor Latino situation.....The Scarves yall sent us were bad ass!!!!
Respect from Cleveland. We're going to be joining you in the USL-1 next season, and our green army is growing, hope to see you guys if you can make the trip to cleveland :p
Hell yes! We need these type of fans in MLS. They'll easily rival Toronto for best supporters groups. Now MLS is more open to these type of supporters.
hey whaddya know theres actually a team in the us with decent support!! come to the MLS TFC would be a good rivalry i mean imagine the atmosphere with 5000+ tfc fans chanting against your fans... if you want an example just type in colombus invasion props to you guys this is what football needs in north america !
That's the idea. We're looking to attract MLS... as some guy said, consistently high numbers would be better, so I don't know what to think on this one.
The difference is however is that Portland and Seattle fans love THE GAME itself, not just the cheering part. Canada has no history with world football, no international success in it, and only 8 players in MLS are from Canada. The reason why people from Toronto act so ga-ga over soccer is because #1, they want to establish an identity different from Americans. And #2, they love going south of the border to start shit. Hooliganism simply isn't your culture, so stop acting like it is.
i hope we never go to mls. why would i want to pay 2 or 3 times as much to see my team. fuck that, and besides the timbers have been around so much longer than any mls squad. fuck mls with their big empty stadiums overpriced tickets and beckham making more money than the whole rest of his team. even though i hate the sounders like any good timbers supporter should, its sad that most of the squad will probably be released once they become mls.
Positives are that we'd get more exposure, fill more seats, the players would make more money, we'd be on TV all the time, and this would increase overall revenue.
Negatives are as you say. Plus, MLS lost a whopping $350 million between it's inception and 2004. They have done better since, but still can't be rolling in the cash. Why have the Portland Timbers jump into that mess?
The real key is to just get more consistently high attendance for the team we have now. That would do wonders.
it would be cool to see us on TV all the time, but i agree that getting numbers at PGE would work magic, the supporters group seems larger than last year, i wish we could get numbers like we did the last game of last season consistently, that was brilliant
I'd really love to see Portland get an MLS team. They have such great fan support there. It may not happen for a while, though, since Seattle now was the Pacific Northwest Covered.
U.S team has so much potential, if they put more money into it. they have a potential to be the one of the best teams on the planet. and how come this team doen't belong to MLS?
i meant like....for E.g in England we sing things like....im swindon till i die, im swindon till i die, i know i am im sure i am im swindon till i die. and so on, iv'e never heard an American team sing like this before, maybe they have done or do, im not sure. I wonder how the US fans chant at national games.
its lame but it mostly turns into the constant babble of USA USA USA USA. i wish there was something better. but he this june should be a good match at wembley. the us team is looking pretty good right now, and no offense the english team isnt
Lol, well, i have and always will admit and accept that our team isn't the best in the world, but i know our team is fairly good. We lost to France, an extremely good team, on a penalty. We have a new manager, new captain...kind of, and many new players being handed caps, so the team wouldn't be performing to great, wait till a permanent team squad is named and a captain and so on, we shall play much better, and we havne won loads of games, e.g. russia 3 nil, estonia 3 nil, israel 3 nil.
of course england is a great team, i mean c'mon its england, but can you fathom how drunk im going to get if the us beats england..but with full respect to both teams cuz i have english blood it should be a good match.. now my problem is tryin to find an englismen to muster the courage to agree it would be a close match. but anyways cheers mate
i admit the US is now a good team, such a shame about your fans though. I think America has massive potential and could become a great footballing nation, but unless more poeple there get into football it will never happen
we US footie fans think it's sad to. the problem is that we have to compete for sports fans attention with baseball, "football", and basketball, only one of which is an real sport (basketball). not to mention that over here professional sports are basically cash cows, not made to increase athleticism but to make money for executives. then there's the whole No-relegation league structure, which I'm not going to even start on. sadly a lot of europeans don't understand this and make fun of us :(
it's ok i understand lol, i will say the the MLS does confuse me, there are different conferences and no relegation, i mean...whats wrong with a simple, single league lol. Im not sure how or why Football got so big in England, but we have been playing it for centuries so it's had alot of time to catch on, give it some more time and it might get bigger in the US too
You guys are the Barra-Brava of the USL. If you guys ever play those f***in red bulls I will travel all the way to protland for it. Also send me one of those scarfs, I'd like one.
