  • @ngbulldog I'll put it on my list. Thanks.

  • @7notemode thanks sooo much!! I play at organ and keyboard at my dad's church in Atlanta and i've always loved this song, but i never knew the title or anything, and last night i was going through your vids (which i love) and saw a gospel hymn so i clicked on it and i could recognize the melody immedietly!! thanks so much for posting this!!

  • @ngbulldog Hey, my pleasure. Thank you.

  • If your talent could be put in a box and sold.... I would buy it, but I could only handle about a 1/4 of a box. Absolutely masterful and beautiful.

  • @scotto40 Ha! Thanks.

  • one more thing!

does anybody know how to get hold on the sheet music?

    thanks a lot!

  • @MrPeregrines I haven't done a transcript of this version, but I bet there are some Bill Evans transcripts of this song out there. Worth Googling.

  • great!

    thank you very much!

  • hahaha... even after i had read the description i thought "woow, that sounds just like bill evans". You've covered him perfectly. Amazing tune! Cheers!

  • @Nagabethus Thanks.

  • Beautiful! Thank you!

  • Wow the musicality in this song is outstanding!!!! a lot of time was put into what the average listener takes for granted!!! Great job!!!

  • @lamekia28 Thanks!

  • I've watched this video more than probably any other on youtube. Is there any chance you can release a transcription? It would be really helpful in learning gospel/jazz voicings. Thanks.

  • @schpoonk Sorry no transcript (yet). I've played around with transcript software, but haven't really learned how to use it. Even the few transcripts on my website, someone else did. Thank you for your nice comment. Best Regards.

  • THANK U SO MUCH FOR THIS VID...SMH....WOW!

  • Gorgeous and thank you for the history on this blessed music.

  • Thank you so much! I play the piano also but I haven't been able to add that colouring to my music. I pray that the Lord would anoint me as he has done you and in time....Amazing Grace Shall Always Be My Song Of Praise also....Amen! what a great performance.

  • Hi, I really love the way you played this song, can you breakdown the chords and the approach please?

  • Sir, that was the most AMAZING rendition of He Looked Beyond My Faults!!! I've been playing for 13 years and this is still a style I have yet to learn to play! It's been really difficult for me. I've played gospel all my life. Some of my influences have been men like Roger Bennett, Anthony Burger, Gerald Wolfe, and many others! Thank you for this post! This truly is THE BEST version of this wonderful song! God Bless!

  • @trampalongkid Thank you so much for your wonderful compliment. I appreciate it!

  • Dear Tom, This recording of your beautiful rendition of He Looked Beyond My Faults has moved me deeply. Thank you for sharing this. This was a very inspired performance and I feel if it was never played again it would have been played to perfection at least once blending an expression of faith and thanks to a gracious Savior through music. Thank you! JK

  • On this Sunday, April, 25, 2010, I am so grateful that Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ continues to look beyond our faults and failures and, gives us another chance to clean up what we've messed up..TGBTG!!!!

  • Masterful!

  • hi i live in atlanta and have been playing for about 6 years and this is the style i've been wanting to learn...do you know of any people in atlanta that i would be able to take lesson from who can steer me in this direction?

  • My great aunt, Shirley Cohron, used to sing with Dottie Rambo. Hearing you play this song really touched me. I could not help but let a glistening tear roll down my cheek as I listened to one of the most beautiful versions of this song ever recorded. All I can say is thank you from the bottom of my heart. You truly are an inspiration.

  • Thank you the238revolution. Your comment made my day!

  • il y a quelques accords intéressants, de la technique mais hélas pas le toucher ni l'émotion qui est restée au placard.

Plus à l'aise dans le gospel que dans le jazz

  • this sounds so soft and beautiful! Where did you learn how to play like this?!

  • Thanks amberlynful. I grew up playing gospel as a kid and Jazz as an adult.

  • Will you marry me? LOL

    Absolutely Beautiful....you touched my soul!!!

  • Thanks, laurenza757

  • nice chords

  • OK.. well I am at the point of obsession now. I will not stop until I am able to play this note for note for the prelude this coming Sunday.

  • I hope it went well for you :-)

  • Wow! I could write a book on every emotion that you stirred in my heart and mind as you played this piece. Breathtaking interpretation of this wonderful song. You playing brought me to the memory of the point in my life that I was assured that God looked beyond my faults and saw my needs. I would love to watch and hear you play this in person. You playing is not just piano playing. It speaks to the heart in a way that I have never really ever heard before. God bless you!

  • scotto40. Thank you so much for the generosity of your comment. I deeply appreciate it.

  • I cannot stop watching and listening to this video. Good thing I can't wear it out like a CD or a tape. LOL! 3:42 drives me nuts.

  • this is just too good...excellent is all i can say

  • whoa dude!!

    this sounds insanely awesome!!

love the feeling you put into your playing..

congrats man.. that's a nice talent you have.

  • Thanks so much for posting your version WITH the interesting history. I had "figured" the evolution of the song, but your precise info makes it even more interesting.

I play upright bass (I'm 73 and taking lessons) and your version allowa me to do some jazz movements as accompaniment.

When I learn how, I want to video myself playing bass with you for posting on YouTube & as video response. May I have your permission to do that? Thanks so much.

    Dave T

  • No problem, Davnkatz. Post away!

  • Dude You Are Awsome Better Than I Can Play Beyond My Fault

  • Your touch is AMAZING!!! I am so very impressed by your playing, and yes, I have subscribed. If my runs could even approach yours, I would think I could play. As it is, I would not want to play in the same room with you since I couldn't pay attention to my own sound because I couldn't stop listening to you!

    Wow! That was just wonderful!

    FIVE STARS!!!

  • Thx CL2001, and thanks pianoman 1634.

  • WOW. This is a great arrangement! Brilliant :) It sounds so beautiful. God DOES look beyond our faults, and He doesn't care about our background. As long as we come to Him with open hearts, He'll guide us through life.

  • ATP6165, Thank you so much for your touching comment. I really appreciate it, and I'm so glad this performance spoke to you. It was meaningful to me to play it.

  • very nice! :]

  • Wow, this is a fantastic arrangement and great playing! I have always loved Danny Boy and thanks for the historical description you gave. Thanks for sharing!

  • I've been playing jazz piano for 53 years -- been around the block a few times... really enjoy your voicings, arrangements and "sound" -- you are very good. Excellent technique - your classical training shows.

  • I was waiting for you to cut loose on it - half way thru, you finally did. Thanks.

  • wow, that's a gift , thanks.

  • wonderful stuff 7note!

  • wow, this is my favorite hymn, and it took me months to finally play some simple chords to it, i love your style!!! beautiful!!!

  • love the way you hang on those plagal cadences. ive been watching all you videos. some truely heartfelt and considered performances. thank you

  • I'm SO in love with your playing! It's like I find a bit of everything (or everyone, rather) in there! Oscar Peterson and Bill Evans, they're all in there! You have a true admirer in me - keep up the good work!

  • it sounds exactly like Londonderry Air.. i love this hymn too~

  • Thank you so much for sharing! This has truly been a blessing to me!

  • Danny Boy -- one of my favorites (my wife is from Ireland)... nice chords - great voicings. Using the whole keyboard... excellent work...

  • Your improvisational approach seems to focus on the harmonics. Sounds like Gil Evans on the piano. Anyway, would like to listen to you "fooling around" on pitches, giving up on "control". You are a great musician, 5/5.

  • You have a very nice style and I agree with the others that suggest you record. I have one question regarding this particular piece...

Do you know the "He" to whom the song refers?

  • I know her

  • sshawnuff - good reply but no, you don't!

  • 7notemode is de man yawl!

  • Wonderful! such a smooth, old melody.! I have this song as demo on my old yamaha psr synth , but version you play is much more phat. Great!

  • A very billevanesque rendition of a great classic, my sincere compliments.

  • Thanks for playing one of the most beautiful melodies of all time and the history of this song. Again 5 stars from Germany.

  • You strech your hands this time...:-).Good job.

  • Beautiful...so soulfull. Thanks for posting!

  • Thats beautiful, you make it sound so natural and effortless.

  • Very spiritual rendition, just beautiful - nice light re-harmonization. I just attended a Baptist funeral last Sat and heard the gospel lyrics for the first time. It took a moment to recognize the melody, first shock, and then acceptance of different words. It has the power of an Amazing Grace with a B section. Thanks for posting this, it's going to be on my Christmas playlist.

  • 7notemode My friend ...MY MY MY. Smooth as butta

  • I love your style of playing man...So many cool sounding___uhh..sounds!...lol it sounds sweet when you hit a chord then change the bass note alittle ex, 02:47...Also I love those two chords at 02:12..sounds like a (II, V)If i go on I'll say "OH THAT'S SICK" every two seconds so I'll stop here.

  • 7:Thanks for the history lesson on this tune!Hats off to the unknown composer who penned this beauty. As always masterful playing and great blending of tension & release (like the run before the ending at 3:40). Great! -Klav

  • Well done!

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Just great. A nice change in mood to your other pieces. Your playing looks so technically precise to watch (do you ever play a wrong note??? LOL) but the emotion shines through every element. One of your best IMHO. Thanks a lot.

  • I love your piano's base. =)

While I was browsing around the internet and listening to this song, I heard that bass and runs around 2:55 and literally said "Holy Snap!". I have a lot of people to look up to when it comes to piano, and I'm glad to say that you're one of them. :D

Great stuff. Thanks for playing it.

  • that was beautiful man. great playing. keep up the great work. love the gospel influence in your piano playing. haven't really heard that over the past few videos but here its a bit more evident. especially when you throw in those 6th harmonic intervals on the 1 chord :)

    in short. that was amazing!

    Daren

  • Just an amazing rendition. The touch, the phrasing, the sensitivity, the dynamic range in your playing...all shine true in this wonderful piece.

And an "Amen" on those 11ths!

  • Hi Tom,nice tune, and nice played as usual. At 04:01 you stretch your hands as if they were of elastic :-)

    Well done * * * * *

  • He got elastic implants, hadn't you heard? As with VB, I really enjoyed the ending. I literaly sighed outloud.

  • Surely my English is not perfect because it is not my mother tongue, but if everyone stretch the mind a little, then he understands that I made only a compliment, and nothing else. To stretch the hands in this way is an advantage to create open voicings.

  • Yes, sorry I guess my sarcasm didn't translate very well either. LOL. I was agreeing with you. No meaness intended!

  • Beautiful heartfelt version. It really spoke to me. (not to mention the 11ths at the end, dang)

  • Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments. Yes, I'm not very limber anywhere else, but the fingers stretch fairly well. I do 11ths at 1:03 and 1:08 as well as the end. I don't think I have used them on anything else posted to youtube, but there is something about inspirational songs and open voicings ;-) Thanks again.

  • I'm not sure I can eat Thanksgiving Dinner for the lump in my throat. Tears..with true thanksgiving for this gift of....absolutely beautiful, anointed music from you, 7note. Your diversity of talent is amazing! A true gift!
