Add to that that the rules today have been modified specifically to increase scoring and make perimeter players have advantages. That was made clear by statements by Stu Jackson of the NBA rules committee. If anything, many of the high scoring performances today have an asterisk beside them because of the rules. There is also statistical evidence that scoring jumped after the rule changes were made.

Not so sure about the evolution thing. Players are much heavier now and just as fast if not faster. As far as the vertical leap is concerned, I know this the creativity in dunking is leaps and bounds beyond the dunks we saw in the 80's.
After 80's the game died for around 12-13yrs but it's back.
It's actually quite simple. Mike would destroy today's NBA! The competition was way tougher back then. Today, MJ would draw more than twice as much fouls, especially flagrant calls that wouldn't have been called before. And back then, strategy was more important, rather then today, in which players bulk up to over power other players to make their way to the basket. MJ would swiftly move past any player!

If you think about it, Wilt played in an era with only a few teams where Russell (and Kareem later on) were among the few who could challenge him, because NO one was his size back then. Now, the typical small forward/ power forward is russell's size and a lot of centres are chamberlain's size. We wouldn't discount his 100. Why would we discount ANY player's scoring achievements based on their era?

@travis264 False. There were many more defensive specialists back in MJ's time. Add to that that the rules today have been modified specifically to increase scoring and make perimeter players have advantages. That was made clear by statements by Stu Jackson of the NBA rules committee. If anything, many of the high scoring performances today have an asterisk beside them because of the rules. There is also statistical evidence that scoring jumped after the rule changes were made.

Not so sure about the evolution thing. Players are much heavier now and just as fast if not faster. Look at the height and weight of all the greats per position as opposed to the height and weight of great players in the same spots and you will notice a startling difference in weight and muscle build.
As far as the vertical leap is concerned, I know this the creativity in dunking is leaps and bounds beyond the dunks we saw in the 80's.
After 80's the game died for around 12-13yrs but it's back.

It's actually quite simple. Mike would destroy today's NBA! The competition was way tougher back then. Today, MJ would draw more than twice as much fouls, especially flagrant calls that wouldn't have been called before. And back then, strategy was more important, rather then today, in which players bulk up to over power other players to make their way to the basket. MJ would swiftly move past any player!
