I just noticed something. When Pink Panther has the barrel dropped on him, he is wearing the robe. He isn't wearing it after he tunnels his way outside using that small shovel.
Obviously the Pink Panthers creators hate the English, as the last three episodes have portrayed them, either in voiceover or character, as upper crust buffoons. I TAKE THIS VERY PERSONALLY.
This is a really funny cartoon, especially the British voices. Debrow's voice kills me. He sounds like Hitchcock. One error though. Dropping a diamond will not break it into pieces.
I remember being caught completely off guard wgen I first this episode when I was about ten years old. I'd been watching the Pink Panther all my life, and this threw me for a loop. Looking back, if the Pink Panther had to have a voice, I think I'd want him to sound like MILES DAVIS!
This was one of only two episodes where the Panther actually spoke. I love the setup line, "Let me have it!" I'm also a fan of Hanna-Barbera cartoons, and people are always getting Snagglepuss confused with the Pink Panther.
i like totally love this one becuz alot of comedy is in it n pink panther acually tlks in this episode i have been searching for it n now here it is rite infront of my eyes
Rich Little not only did the Alfred Hitchcock voice for Deveraux, but the Cary Grant voice for Hotchkins, and the David Niven voice for The Pink Panther.
Ironically, Little would do the Niven voice again for "Curse Of The Pink Panther". Niven had lost his voice during the movie, so his dialogue was dubbed for Little to imitate.
This episode came out on6-10-1965. It's the 9th one on the Pink Panther classic cartoon collection. And one of the only two episodes he spoke in. Sink Pink was the other.
Having a normally silent cartoon character talk isn't the worst thing in the world--as long as the voice fits the character. For example Wile E. Coyote talked in 4 out of 5 of his outings with Bugs Bunny and two with the Roadrunner--and the voice Blanc provided the coyote with fit perfectly. The voice Rich Little gave the Pink Panther was perfect. Unfortunately that terrible 90s version gave the Pather a horrific voice that wasn't even British! It didn't fit at all.
Rich Little's impression of David Niven was actually dubbed in for Niven's last two movies. Niven had previously lost his voice to Lou Gehrig's Disease before dying of it. I could be mistaken, but I'm guessing that Little used his impression of Niven for the voice of the Pink Panther here and in "Sink Pink."
@vockla He didn't recover it, Hotchkins dropped it on the floor and it broke, which is impossible anyway. The gag was that he kept stealing diamonds from them after they stole from him.
If only it would've been remade in a pantomime version. With voices, it just plays like the lesser WB Looney Tunes of the same era (which were also done by the same DPE team with Bill Lava as composer).
You're right... he talked! Pink only talks twice... in this cartoon and in Sink Pink. Rich Little really did an amazing job providing the voice of Pink.
"Hoskins, let me have it! *BANG* Devereaux, you've got it! *BANG* The same to you, Hoskins! *BANG* Here's one back again! *BANG* And another for you!" lol
Rich Little supplies the voice of Pink Panther here. Supposedly the voice and mannerisms were patterned after Rex Harrsion. He's also the two Cockney hunters.
This is also one of the two Pink Panther cartoons in which the main character, by the name of The Pink Panther, talks. He also has a line at the end of "Sink Pink", also from 1965:
This was one of the first episodes. After only 2 the writers decided to make the Pink Panther a mute character. He's actually a lot more effective that way.

The Pink Panther has a telephone to open his safe. I like it that it is rotary. What would it be today?

I love it when Deveraux looks in the barrel and talks and then gets his head blown off in mid-sentence.
