My 2006 has the 3rd row seat, and seating for 7. It's perfect for hauling my big family around and taking out of town trips. This 2012 is smaller looking inside and out. These two guys in the video are small guys. As I said in a previous comment, this version just isn't the Explorer I've come to know and love. The inside is nice but they completely ruined the outside. Why does everything have to look like a crossover? Not all SUV patriots can afford or have the need for something as large as the Expedition, and the Explorer was the perfect alternative. Inside = A- Outside = D

I guarantee in another 5 years the only way to get a V8 RWD vehicle with body on frame will be to buy a pickup truck. The Ford Explorer turned from a capable SUV with off-road capability to nothing more than a mall crawler and grocery getter. I will not own a front wheel drive vehicle, so I am pretty much limited to pickup trucks and suvs, as no one makes a body on frame rear wheel drive car anymore.
I may buy this thing since I'm in the market. looks like American innovation is back. hopefully it's as reliable (at least) as it's Japanese competitors.

They all seem to be poorly produced micro segments designed by some over priced social media marketing company. The price of gas and the stigma attached with SUV's has pretty much depleted previous Explorer owners. I own a 2000 Explorer XLT with 189,000 on it. I love my truck, but the gas is killing me. Besides, an extra 3rd row seat and a more spacious compartment would be long overdue. People are looking for a safe, economical SUV.

It would be nice if that interior was connected to the new 32V 5.0 and a more capable offroad package with locking differentials, more ground clearance and skid plates...
