I loved how Firth got across the king's great vulnerability and humanity. You saw every cruel act perpetrated against the helpless younger son echoing down through the years every time the king opened his mouth. It was wrenching and beautiful. An eloquent and oddly subtle performance, given the very public nature of George's disability.
@HelenDiazOfficial I agree. He's a great actor, and I'm sure all guys are jealous of his good looks and talent. Especially cause he's 50 and hasn't aged at all. :)

Firth makes George VI entirely too pleasant. George was a spoiled princeling and a product of the English class system (which by the way has had a resurrection with Cameron). In his favour one may say that he loved his wife and daughters and had a sense of loyalty to his country and empire. But there's not much else good to be said about him.
We all have probs with speech. Music is 10 times worse performing one day easy other day the Wall comes down. I think its where you are and who you are with.
I think he is a stunning actor!! and one of the only 50 year old men (yes HOW is he 50?! :P) that I find stupidly attractive both in personality and looks. Intelligent and just..... lovely :)
Finally a great role for Colin Firth! He's such a fantastic actor, but he always gets landed with archetypal Mr Darcy-esque characters. Now he's got a character he can really work with!
I just saw it today! Great character study, as is it a great historical documentary. Geoffrey Rush was witty and funny, too. I really liked it, and recommend it.
@RichardElden funny that this talentless libtard cunt as you call him has earned so many awards, featured in so many films and has the respect of numerous highly acclaimed and prestigious film makers has done quite well for himself. One can only say such a comment like the one you made with a firm base with specific evidence otherwise you danger yourself in looking like well, a complete eejit.
@RichardElden Lol, these people are rich actors who have a great career, what are you doing? You're sitting at home in your basement typing hate comments on left wing and monarchist videos. I bet you wish you have a girlfriend.
How about my movie about LOU LOU the Stuttering Boxer I! It was the price of The King's Speech lunch budget... SAVE IT ON NETFLIX under it's title RevoLOUtion so we can get a better license fee!!! It's already on there but not avail... we released it experimentally (free)in NY/LA, now i'm tweaking it, hopefull shooting two more scenes in spring summer 2011 - I look forward to your comments - and if you like you can comment on the additional scenes we are shooting at facebook under LOU LOU
I saw this film today and I would urge anyone to go see it. Colin Firth deserves many awards for this role. Such a fantastic, emotional and uplifting film.
This movie is doing well here in the US. I saw it Christmas Day and it was fabulous. A lot of Americans probably know even less about this period of time than Mr. Firth says he does (as I do) but the story is compelling nonetheless. A must-see!!
oh wow.... the glorious king george!.......king of the dominions of great britain and the self-proclaimed "emperor of india" was actualy a stuttering pasty-faced english limey pussy milksop who couldnt be torn away from his mothers teats
For good information on King George VI, read "The Little Princesses" by Marion Crawfoird, their governess. George VI liked to do needlepoint, (like Rosie Greer!).
His mother (Q Mary), was remote, his father said "I was afraid of my father & my chilren ARE going to be afraid of me!" George VI wore splints to heal knocknees as a child. He was a 2nd son. THESE r the reasons he got a stammer. He nu about CCamps, UK llosses, but cudn't talk 2 any1 but churchill b them. He smokd. Died at 52. HERO!

@JuanMacready In height and hair colour and style and accent hes closer than many other actors. The point is not to be identical to the people in question, but to deliver the most accurate portrayal of his character and his personality. I think Colin Firth is more than up to the challenge, and original reviews say he was quite remarkable.
@Mustang318 There's nobody who could do it better. Besides, I think he looks like he could play the Queen's father, whether or not he actually looks like George VI. Most people don't know what George VI looked like.

@counterhon Everyone knows what George VI looked like, there are hundreds of thousands of photographs. Hugh Grant would have been a better choice than the talentless prick Firth. I hope Colin Firth gets CANCER.
@JuanMacready You must be a mindless fool to say something ludicrous and cruel like that.
Everyone has the means to know what George VI looked like, there obviously are photos (thanks for that), but most people don't, especially not in America and they're aiming for a good reception there. Moreover, in America, Hugh Grant is a fucking joke of an actor who can only play eccentric man-boys lacking in depth. Physical resemblance has absolutely nothing to do with acting.

@counterhon Colin Firth is a talentless libtard faggot and I hope he goes the same way as George VI. Every British monarch since William IV has been a powerless irrelevance so this stupid film is just a pointless exercise.
@JuanMacready I think anyone who feels they should insult two men they've never met, both of whom are better known and better thought of than that person, is talentless and irrelevant themselves. For gods sake, just because you don't like them, don't wish death on them and dont judge something you havent seen or been a part of. You don't have to comment on the video if you dont like it. Im sure people will survive if you dont.
@JuanMacready Hugh Grant is ok but his acting seems one dimentional so far. His foppish, cute and awkward style wears a bit thin after a while. I doubt if he could convey King George very well. I rather the hooker he got caught in the act with take on the role. No, Mr britches (Colin Firth) seems apposite to the role.
I have to say what Colin Firth did at the end of the clip is pretty accurate. The King's speech defected condition consists of long pauses between words and not the usual repeating stammering.
I couldn't be more EXCITED!!! I've studied the the lives of King George VI & Queen Elizabeth since university. What an amazing coincidence! My favorite study and my favorite actor!!!
