Hyuk, hyuk Ricky, I wonder how many times you rehearsed that heelarious punch line. I'll bet you were just standing there the whole time just waiting for what you thought was the right time to deliver it. Who is your handler/writer that came up with that clever line for you? Hack. You and your corrupt party are completely dishonest. We WILL remember what you and yours have done to this country. We will NOT forget.
Anyone who calls ObamaCare SOCIALISM has lost their mind and need to get a dictionary.
Having said that, I’m tired of right-wingers ignoring the FACT that the REPUBLICANS introduced the INDIVIDUAL MANDATE in the 1990’s.
So, were there a bunch of Socialists in the Repub party? Some of ‘em are still there. RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!! The Republican SOCIALIST party is taking over!!!
I like Obama, but I think government health care or insurance should be needs based, and I don't think the government should interfere with the insurance others already have, except perhaps to insist that people not be denied for pre-existing conditions that have already been treated.
1) WE NEED TO KEEP VOTING THESE SCUM SUCKING MORONS OUT LIKE WE DID IN NOVEMBER
2) ALL THE SCUM SUCKING LOOSERS WHO WANT SOCIALISM, WHY DON'T YOU JUST MOVE TO RUSSIA AND ASKED THEM HOW IT WORKED FOR THEM
3) WE ARE GOING TO REPEAL THIS HEALTHCARE SHAM, AND THEN THE EDUCATION SHAM AND THE SOCIALIST SECURITY SHAM.......AND ALL THE OTHER FUCKING SCAMS AND SHAMS.........
4) AND FOR ALL YOU SCUM SUCKING SOCIALIST WUSSIES OUT THERE I'VE GOT ONE THING TO SAY TO YOU..WAAAA...WAAAAA
Since he didn't read the massive bill that only Dems worked on, he did not have the facts. And Glenn Beck & FOX news own this liar clown. Free health insurance will lead to free food & free homes, since not having those will also lead to poor health. The clown referencing the Constitution "general welfare," continue reading the enumerated powers. I guess with just that phrase, the Feds can tag us, inject us, force-feed us, etc. Used cars salesmen all, selling a dream of immortality. Pigs.
@hitheresunshine Before recession, 95% had insurance (now 90%), & paid for it. We paid higher premiums due to medical advancements, hospitals' unpaid services, & decreasing payments from Medicare/Medicaid (why Mayo Clinic will now turn many away -- losing too much $ on them). Healthcare is not a right, it's a service. This bill gives people who already never pay the right to more slave labor & benefits. U & I will pay more for them, & wait behind them in line. We needed some reform, not fraud.
@hank1972 Doesn't matter what it SHOULD be, but rather what it is. A service that someone else is forced to provide or pay for cannot be a right. That's why Dems added the "Doctor Fix" in HC bill, cuz docs threatened to REFUSE service to Medicare/caid if payments were cut %20 more. They're not slaves. HC is bankrupting Canada, most of their GDP. We already have HC 4 all, even illegals can walk into an ER, & we pay. But Fed HC is a Union pension pay off, & another entitlement to buy future votes.
@BurnOutXL even US born can go to an ER and not pay that whole thing is a red herring. Considering the cost of Er visits one can see how that happens. Mind you the Swiss have a system that we passed and it did bring the cost down. You speak of slavery yet I know many that are slaves (only working for their HC). As far as your comment "A service that someone else is forced to provide or pay for cannot be a right" Then stop using the interstate highway system or the post office.
@hank1972 Wrong again Hank. Highway & postal workers are some of the most cushy overpaid under-educated protected government jobs out there, with benefits & pensions. & I pay taxes, so I get em, as do you, even if you don't pay. Welcome to a welfare state, but infrastructure is necessity. As for HC, take a look @ how little Medicare/aid pays versus private HC, & you'll see our rates rise. & you can sue BlueCross, but not the gov. As 4 Swiss, they pull illegals off the trains & deport. Seen it.
@BurnOutXL Please stop bring up red herrings I did not ask about Swiss immigration tactics, nor did I bring up the benefits of highway and postal workers. I brought cost that have made HC unattainable for many in the US. Yet you say " infrastructure is necessity' I can not see what would be more a necessity than physical well being of it people. If u feel that highways are welfare then stop using it. Bringing cost down would help not hurt.
@hank1972 I'm all for bringing cost down, portability, etc. Just not 2700 pages of more entitlement. If waste & union benefits weren't so big, the gov could pay more to Medicare/aid & our private HC costs would go down. I've paid for private HC my whole life, even when I got it from work, cuz of portability scare. Now I'll get less 4 my $ to pay 4 others ahead of me in line. People must choose priorities & nothing is really free. Check your local gov for pension & salary info. I pay4 HC & 401k.
@BurnOutXL Ahead of what line I ask. Go to any ER and the ones with HC get treated b4 any one else. Now under universal coverage only diff I see would be on severity. Anthony Wiener said it well "who pays ER visit of ppl who can't afford it?" Take a guess. This causes your rates to go up. This is why our cost of HC is 16% of our economy. Since their is no preventive care for some of these ppl ER is all they got. So would u rather spend 10 bucks or 1000. Their is a collective responsibility.
This Rick Larsen you saw started off with saying that the govt. will not force you to have health insurance. Then in mid stream he changes to the govt. will not force you to change to govt. healthcare.
He is such a con man. The he goes right into how the govt. has to increase the amount of people in the pool so they can distriute the wealth to the have nots. Then wants going to happen is that people will not want to keep paying for others so they will decide to be a have not. thanks libs
"Why should we help a small amount of people, when the larger amount of Americans are selfish jerks who can't see the benefit of helping their neighbors?"
Yeah, right. So why should I pay for YOUR kids to go to school when I chose not to have any? Pay for your own damned mistakes.
Didn't the internment of Japanese-American during WWII fall under the "General Welfare" clause? Hell, they could have been terrorists!!!
Wiretapping, secret prisions, torture, wars in Iraq.... yep these were done under the general welfare clause.
Why doesn't Artile 1 section 8 just say "Congress shall have the power to promote the general welfare" and stop at that? All those other words totally wasted.
If there is no opt out clause, meaning I am forced to pay for you and forced to jump through all their damn hoops then its time for a huge fight. Drop everything, quit your jobs, hide your families this is it.
Do not stand for this socialist tyranny. If you do not know the definition of socialism DO NOT reply!
Socialist tyranny? Americans forcefed their thoughts from the media are a joke.
If YOU don't know what socialism is, try reading some Fourier, Blanqui, or Marx. Turning off Faux News and reading a book never hurt anyone, trust me =).
Perhaps you're mis-interpreting that specific article so you can see a Socialist agenda implemented (or FORCED) on those who are true Constitutionalists.
Regarding the lady's breakdown on the insureds in the US-- there was no counter-argument from Larsen.
The people who are rude at the majority of these town halls are the ones who are FOR the single-payer plan. I witnessed that myself at the meeting I attended. This video shows it too when people are muttering and booing her when she's trying to make her point.
Obviously you're not aware of HR 676. That bill is still in play and IS a single payer option. Don't call me ignorant when you're not even aware of all the health care legislation out there.
Once again you're proving how oblivious you are. Obviously if it's H.R. 676, it's NOT a Senate bill. Educate yourself before trying to have a discussion with me about this.
Well of course Jason can believe congress should pay for him. He spends the day NOT working in the basement at his mom's place playing freaking WOW and smoking pot and eating Ramen. He obviously doesn't get to the gym terribly often (or the barbershop, hence the lack of employment) so he is ripe for free health care. Anybody see the trend yet?
hahaha....majority of the nutjobs in the white house since the first president have been conservadicks...the dems and libs have had to fix there screw ups for 100s of years...
Way to go WA......you have a Rep with a personality disorder. This man actually believes what he says. He needs help. And Jason....you have not read the Constitution.....go read the rest of it where it talks about defining the "general population." The federal govt provides for the states, not individuals. Then the states have rights which provide for the citizens. Pay attention Jason! I guess you can get away with such stupid statements when your Rep doesn't know the difference either.
AMERICA AND AMERICANS DO NOT WANT NATIONAL HEALTH CARE
this is not a commy country.........NATIONAL BANKS first then NATIONAL AUTO INDUSTRIES second now NATIONAL HEALTH CARE????????
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NONO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NONO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NONO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NONO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NONO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NONO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NONO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
xxxxdarksidexxxx lol, my bad, I hate baseball so I don't watch it... I call it "golf in the air" a non-sport of fat men hitting a ball and jogging from base to base
It amazes me when I see Americans stand up and say x-amount of people don't deserve 'healthcare' (like we have in the UK) because why should I pay for them.
The healthcare in the UK allows EVERYONE to have access to FREE medicare.. whether they have 'insurance' or not!
People can still CHOOSE to go 'Private' (& they DO!). But it GUARANTEES nobody goes without care!! What on Earth is wrong with that??
The same lady is quite happy to pay 10X as much for Empire building & killing foreigners! WTF!
WTF.... YOU HAVE YOUR FACTS WRONG! Britain has waiting lists a mile long, has a rate of death higher than the US, and did you know that men with prostrate cancer have a 71% survival rate as compared to 91% in the US because of our wonderful healthcare system. Why do people come to the US for their medical care when they live in these countries? Because they get TREATED quickly!
I don't not believe you, but can you cite those mile long waiting lists, cancer rates and people coming to America for health care (like a link or something)? And I'm pretty sure most countries that offer health care have the private option too, that's how its gonna be here. Also, if they are coming to America then they're probably rich as fuck
Probably been listening to that Right wing hack Daniel Hannan.. who said a few things 'Constitutionalists' liked.. but actually he is just another Corporate front man like the rest of them!!
I've been DISABLED for the last 9 years so I should know!
I get ALL my medications for FREE!
I get ALL my visits to doctors for FREE!
I get my housing paid & I get enough to live on!
If I was an American I'd be DEAD! or at the very least living on the streets in total AGONY & deprtivation!
But of course you didn't address my point about spending 10X as much to go round the planet killing people!! You Americans rarely look at it in THAT light!
In the U.S. you would probably be on "disability" (a program that helps the disabled) and on medicaid (a free healthcare program for those with very low income).
Some of us DO see the irony of one group seeming to completely ignore the fact that the U.S. spent a hell of a lot more money on a war we should not have been fighting - killing countless people and encouraging extreme hatred of our country - but we can't seem to pull any money out of our ass to fix our health care system.
friend I don't mean to 'generalise' about Americans.. I know there is a large slice of American society that is wide awake to the system & how its not the story you've been told it is.
There are millions of Americans who don't have ANY insurance & can't afford 'Doctors fees' or medication.
Its good to hear that disabled people get help but it also worries me.. whenever Corporatism & Government get together it usually leads to cold-blooded decisions based on 'profit margins'.
I can tell her why we are being forced into it. It is for the database on Americans that comes as a bonus to the government in it's war on patriotism.
If you change jobs, your employer changes your health insurance or stops providing insurance, you get laid off, the insurance company decides you're too big a risk, you become old enough or pregnant enough or married enough not to be considered a dependent on your parents' insurance - you lose your health care! BOOO!
Oh wait - that's our current system. Have a nice day.
Rick Larsen BOOO LIAR BOOOO. He is full of it. They will destroy private health care through attrition. If you change jobs, or if your employer signs on, YOU LOOSE YOUR HEATH CARE. To the other idiot, Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution gives Congress the power to impose taxes to "provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States." Meaning military and roads, common good is not for heath care, for health care is a service, like a cars oil change, and not a right.
a woman takes time out of her day because she is so concerned about the future of healthcare and her congressman has the gall to insult her. What a guy..
It was a rude comment, but at some point you've got to be blunt. When you've been hearing the same old lies over and over again and refuting them over and over again - at some point you've got to get through somehow.
Of your your talking about lies of Rick Larsen, and the propaganda of the Liberal Democrats. Let me ask you what Government program has ever cost what they say or do what they say. The only one is the Department of unintended consequences. If the bill goes through ALL health care decisions will be POLITICAL, with no appeals. The IRS, DMV, and the Post office will decide if you live or die or get any treatment. DO YOU REALLY WANT SEVERAL LAYER OF BUREAUCRATS BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR DOCTOR?
Exton1, what health insurance policy do you have now?
Have you ever had to use it? Do you even know how it works?
How would you appeal if your insurance decided not to cover a procedure your doctor felt was necessary?
Insurance companies are legally accountable to share holders, not to you. They are only accountable to you in as far as the government has enacted consumer protections.
Blame your good ol government for that. Every state has its own department of insurance that regulates and oversees insurance companies. What they allow the private sector to do is what youre stuck with. Say thank you to those senators and representatives in the state house. Just remember some of them that go on to the U.S. senate and congress. The same ones that love to make the insurance company the only villain in this when they all had the power fix it when they where in their state houses.
Look - I can appreciate the concept of unintended consequences and certainly any health care reform that goes through will have them.
However, it certainly takes no political courage to just stand there and do nothing and watch it crash and burn. Those who don't see the need for reform of some sort (conservative or liberal) are certainly not paying attention.
Similar systems (having both public and private insurance options) have been tested in other countries - and we can learn from that.
In my state, under/unemployed with children get on a HMO paid by the state- run by a private insurance company. I was a single father of 3, lost a job used it. It was no better/worse then the HMO I was co paying 25 a week working. Alone with no income you have to apply to a fed paid & regulated handled by the state insurance program every 6 months. You need over $1000 of medical bills before you get free drugs & go thru spend down cycles. You have NO more then $1000 in pension stock or bank.
cont- The more people the state put on the HMO plan insurance comp. gave the state discounts on cost. HMOs - not the best but paid for dental/braces, glasses, shots, twice a year exams and free drugs. Your kids are under 19 if you work and fall under income guide lines you could stay off the employers plan and stay with the state plan till the kids are19. This is a good example of the state gov working with a private company doing right. Its the fed run plan for single people that suks.
Oh really. Right now the FOR-PROFIT insurance company BUREAUCRATS come between you and your doctor way more than the govt ever could.
what is happening right now is the insurance companies deciding,
which medicine you can buy, which hospital you can go to, what treatments you can undergo, which doctor you can choose. Not to mention the discrimination against people with preexisting conditions and the forever rising premiums.
When you make an argument make sure it is a logical one
I'm trying to get on a stupid federal funded and regulated insurance program that they make the state give single uninsured where you can't have more then $1000 in stocks, pensions or bank. I have a 401k with only 400 in it from a job I had 15 years ago in a group policy that changed so many hands. I stopped getting statements and couldn't prove what the value of it is now, tho the gov has a copy of it 2 years ago. My case worker refuses to cover me until I get a current copy.
I have an ulcer/open wound under my foot that had gotten infected after a trip to the emergency room I walked out with a $2000 bill and orders from the doc to go to an open wound center. But they only see you if insured or have $3000. I run the risk of it getting infected again and amputation. You think that bureaucratic worker cared? Hell no. No money added to that 401k if anything lost money in it, Dont tell me gov bureaucrats wont come between you and a doctor. It's happening to me
So what exactly is your point? That somehow the insurance companies care more about you than the govt?
The insurance companies have one motive and that is to make PROFIT. You can check the statistics on how much profit insurance organizations make every year.
If is was up to the insurance companies, they will try every which way to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions, cancel coverage when they think its getting too expensive etc.
That was a rude insult to that women! If these people are really interested in explaining and trying to pass this health care reform by winning people over do they really think these kinds of jabs are going to help them in anyway? Really folks get real. You get what you pay for.
moron? is this what america is about? insluting other before you know thier viewpoints? i dont think so, we treat others with respect. come on, please be respectful
You people do not get it. You want to slam the right, and slam the left. Have none of you even realized how much big business and govt are in bed with each other? We are Americans, use your head and stop this stupid partisan crap. You are being lead by the nose from politicians on both sides. More big government is just going to create more big problems. Why cant anyone see that?
Check out Glenn Beck's comments on US healthcare from his show 1/7/08... He said (and I quote).."Getting well in our healthcare system can almost kill you" He had an operation that went very wrong. He was not happy about the state of care he received...but on 5/12 --after he was hired by Fox He changed his story. I wish someone would hold him accountable for his "UNTRUTHS" about the US healthcare reform. I need it now. my premiums are high and co-pays are increasing..Help me. Yes we can
If Obama fails on healthcare it will be a severe blow to the progressive agenda this country so badly needs - We need to break down the status quo conservatism that has brought ruin to this country.
When Clinton failed in the 90s, it took a lot of power away from the administration - don't let it happen again! Not this time!
Can all the Democrats/liberals (i.e. rational, intelligent people) please put all your efforts into achieving some sort of reform, even if it's not as ambitious as desired
Facts??? Most of the politicians have not even read the bill yet. They dont understand it either. I bet he could not answer most of the questions or even has a clue. Our national debt is almost 100% GDP, and our taxes will not go up if this is passed? Whoever believes that is living in a dreamworld.
Metropolitical - Do you even know what the Dutch Option is?
Healthy debate is NOT insulting questioners and it helps if the congressional representatives actually read up on the various plans that already exist. If he had, then maybe he would not have had to fall back on insults and his OWN TALKING POINTS as a lame response.
The Mans statement about the Constitution is not complete. Read The general welfare clause in Article 1, Section 8 followed by a list of 17 things authorized to do, such as; to establish post offices, coin money, make treaties, establish standard weights and measures, provide for a Navy, punish pirates, punish counterfeiting, fund a temporary army, declare war, and exercise exclusive jurisdiction over all cases in the future District of Columbia.
Abraham Lincoln: "You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help small men by tearing down big men. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot lift the wage earner by tearing down the wage payer. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do themselves."
I really don't think that insulting a questioner is a sign of reliability and is more suited to a lynch party leader than a congressman.
And I don't think she was working off Glen Beck's talking points. It sounded like she was working off the Dutch Option which was shown on CNN, which has the highest health care program rating in Europe if I recall right.
The congressman's response was appropriate and commendable. The usual misinformed talking points conservatives drag in repeatedly to these discussions add nothing new to the debate and are only intended to mislead. There are many more underinsured than uninsured, so the potential benefit to the population at larger is greater than conservatives would have you believe.
Well said. There are alot of regulation that have been passed by Congress that cut competition and could easily be repealed. One is liciencing accross state line allowing people to purchase accross state line would give 17 million access to affordable care. This plan does not address the real problem it just throws more money at it. Medicare Medicade waste $1 to every $3 it spends on fraud and overpayments. To me that is not a plan worth expanding but needs to be fixed.
there are two different parts to it. The public option and universal healthcare. you seem to be against the universal healthcare which is the one that covers the uninsured. the public option does not cost anything to you. but dont take my word for it, look it up.
The public option would cost everyone .. it is not being set on a level playing field with private insurance. Through force of government health care providers will have to provide better rates to the government option and then tax dollars will be used to further subsidize it. Very similair to how Medicare works.
doesn't work that way. prices will go up until the only viable option will be the government program. Private insurance will go out of business or be merged into government control.
Article 1, Section 8 outlines national defense, the currency, establishing post offices, immigration, and regulating commerce.
It says nothing of health care or health insurance. If you want your state government paying for or regulating the health care system in your state, go right ahead. That's constitutional, assuming the state's constitution allows it. The 10th amendment delegates that power to the states.
I'm still laughing - I love the barrier idea. The next town hall meeting should look like a scene from the "Blues Brothers". Expessially since Obama has called for violence against
Only problem I have with this womans statement is that she doesnt realize how much our economy is affected by these illegal aliens.
It's fucked up they're here illegally & the govt should do something bout that, but when they do & our economy plunges even more (being that these illegal aliens spend money in american businesses like we do), she'll be looking crazy. You basically want illegals to spend money with us and in return, you want to reject them. We cant have our cake & eat it too.
not only that, but its their dirt cheap labor that keeps a lot of the prices low here, prices low on a lot of things that i bet that lady buys and maybe wouldnt be able to buy if it wasnt for that incredibly cheap labor.
Article 1 section 8 clearly states "general Welfare of THE UNITED STATES"
It doesn't say "people of" or "citizens".
People -> Preamble -> Constitution -> Congress-> UNITED STATES;
So that we may live peaceably within OUR STATES with our own LAWS not delegated to congress -> Liberty - > Happiness
Think of it as your house. A builder builds it, alarm company helps protect it, handyman maintains it, but absolutely NONE of them tell you what you can or cant do in your house.
Umm, it is everyone's America, and if you want to be ignorant, there is a reason why we still have disadvantaged(minorities) people in this country. They are slaves to big government and welfare. There have been countless programs to advance people in this country. It is no ones fault but their own if they can not get an education and a job in this country. The only reason race should be in this discussion is because politicians pander to minorities for votes.Worst thing for minorities is welfare
You say, "It is no one's fault but their own" because you don't want to admit that there are people who do have disadvantages over everyone else. It's hard for some people to be empathetic, because you want ppl to be able to succeed But I do believe they need the welfare. If you have a bad family life it's hard to get up and go to McDonald's and work 10 hours and come home to a drunken parent. It doesn't really boost your spirits. Although I do understand some aspects of what you are saying.
How are they crazy because they want to prevent our country from taking on so many social programs. Have you seen some of the DNC ads? They are plain old rude to citizens. I am not republican myself, but you people need to lay off the "They are angry cause they lost" shit. They are angry because the politicians are corrupt. If liberals actually watched Glenn Beck, they would find the huge corruption scheme in our government. Oh, it happens with republicans to, so dont drop the bush line on me.
I was at this and the guy with the constitutionality deal is not only a long time friend of Rick's but I was at a bbq with both of them. There were 2 other of his friends he called on and Rick Larsen is famous in arguments to pulling the "Glenn Beck Card" when he is out of options and someone comes with actual facts. Shame on you Rick
It is amazing how hypocritical the liberal douchebags can be. That is all they can do is bash Fox and complain about Bush. I got news for ya, let the left keep bashing the right. You retards will be fighting with less and less, cause there is a big movement to independents. This partisan bickering is absolutely retarded.
I say we choose where our tax money goes. But to be honest I'm not selfish enough to keep my paycheck to only matters that concern me, I have some compassion.
phoisgreat I deeply appreciate your civility and respect towards your fellow citizens, something that is easily forgotten these times. But I would like to debate point you mentioned. You said you wanted we (I assume we the people) to decide where our tax money goes. That is exactly what democracy does, lets the people decide what to do by voting representatives. Have to agree to disagree but this time the public voted for health care reform. Just like the public voted for no reform last 2 terms.
Hehe, this isn't really a topic I'd like to debate. Instead of electing them and trusting they vote in our interest maybe have a form we fill out. Something along those lines, we still get some say by electing them. So instead of tax dollars going to just what one representative offers which isn't everything you want to fund, you can choose to send it to other specified areas. I mean, that's something I think is more fair but you are right about that one aspect of why we elect them.
America was designed as a Constitutionally Limited Republic. By saying that anything is open because it was voted on is very scary stuff. You have to have limitations otherwise you have pure Democracy, which, believe it or not is a bad thing.
Don't believe me? The purest form of Democracy in action is a lynch mob.
Sometimes majority will is not the just thing. Hence Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution, the 9th Amendment, the 10th Amendment. Very strict limitations on government.
I have not been insured my whole life and now that i see a chance to get it, even if it means you all lose a couple dollars, than im all for it. To be honest you all don't deserve that money any way. So I would say that it would be going to better use.
Hyuk, hyuk Ricky, I wonder how many times you rehearsed that heelarious punch line.
BurnOutXL 1 year ago
@BurnOutXL even US born can go to an ER and not pay that whole thing is a red herring. Considering the cost of Er visits one can see how that happens. Mind you the Swiss have a system that we passed and it did bring the cost down. You speak of slavery yet I know many that are slaves (only working for their HC). As far as your comment "A service that someone else is forced to provide or pay for cannot be a right" Then stop using the interstate highway system or the post office.
hank1972 1 year ago
@hank1972 Wrong again Hank. Highway & postal workers are some of the most cushy overpaid under-educated protected government jobs out there, with benefits & pensions. & I pay taxes, so I get em, as do you, even if you don't pay. Welcome to a welfare state, but infrastructure is necessity. As for HC, take a look @ how little Medicare/aid pays versus private HC, & you'll see our rates rise. & you can sue BlueCross, but not the gov. As 4 Swiss, they pull illegals off the trains & deport. Seen it.
BurnOutXL 1 year ago
@BurnOutXL Please stop bring up red herrings I did not ask about Swiss immigration tactics, nor did I bring up the benefits of highway and postal workers. I brought cost that have made HC unattainable for many in the US. Yet you say " infrastructure is necessity' I can not see what would be more a necessity than physical well being of it people. If u feel that highways are welfare then stop using it. Bringing cost down would help not hurt.
hank1972 1 year ago
@hank1972 I'm all for bringing cost down, portability, etc. Just not 2700 pages of more entitlement. If waste & union benefits weren't so big, the gov could pay more to Medicare/aid & our private HC costs would go down. I've paid for private HC my whole life, even when I got it from work, cuz of portability scare. Now I'll get less 4 my $ to pay 4 others ahead of me in line. People must choose priorities & nothing is really free. Check your local gov for pension & salary info. I pay4 HC & 401k.
BurnOutXL 1 year ago
@BurnOutXL Ahead of what line I ask. Go to any ER and the ones with HC get treated b4 any one else. Now under universal coverage only diff I see would be on severity. Anthony Wiener said it well "who pays ER visit of ppl who can't afford it?" Take a guess. This causes your rates to go up. This is why our cost of HC is 16% of our economy. Since their is no preventive care for some of these ppl ER is all they got. So would u rather spend 10 bucks or 1000. Their is a collective responsibility.

He is such a con man. The he goes right into how the govt. has to increase the amount of people in the pool so they can distriute the wealth to the have nots. Then wants going to happen is that people will not want to keep paying for others so they will decide to be a have not. thanks libs

Why doesn't Artile 1 section 8 just say "Congress shall have the power to promote the general welfare" and stop at that? All those other words totally wasted.

Because they get TREATED quickly!
barbsadoll10 2 years ago
I don't not believe you, but can you cite those mile long waiting lists, cancer rates and people coming to America for health care (like a link or something)? If I was an American I'd be DEAD! or at the very least living on the streets in total AGONY & deprtivation!
But of course you didn't address my point about spending 10X as much to go round the planet killing people!! You Americans rarely look at it in THAT light!
ejbh3160 2 years ago 2
In the U.S. you would probably be on "disability" (a program that helps the disabled) and on medicaid (a free healthcare program for those with very low income).
Some of us DO see the irony of one group seeming to completely ignore the fact that the U.S. spent a hell of a lot more money on a war we should not have been fighting - killing countless people and encouraging extreme hatred of our country - but we can't seem to pull any money out of our ass to fix our health care system.
sinmantyx 2 years ago
friend I don't mean to 'generalise' about Americans..

To the other idiot, Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution gives Congress the power to impose taxes to "provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States." Meaning military and roads, common good is not for heath care, for health care is a service, like a cars oil change, and not a right.

sinmantyx 2 years ago 2
Of your your talking about lies of Rick Larsen, and the propaganda of the Liberal Democrats. Let me ask you what Government program has ever cost what they say or do what they say. The only one is the Department of unintended consequences. If the bill goes through ALL health care decisions will be POLITICAL, with no appeals. The IRS, DMV, and the Post office will decide if you live or die or get any treatment. DO YOU REALLY WANT SEVERAL LAYER OF BUREAUCRATS BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR DOCTOR?
Exton1 2 years ago 2
Exton1, what health insurance policy do you have now?
Have you ever had to use it? Do you even know how it works?
How would you appeal if your insurance decided not to cover a procedure your doctor felt was necessary?
Insurance companies are legally accountable to share holders, not to you. They are only accountable to you in as far as the government has enacted consumer protections.
sinmantyx 2 years ago
Blame your good ol government for that. Every state has its own department of insurance that regulates and oversees insurance companies. What they allow the private sector to do is what youre stuck with. Say thank you to those senators and representatives in the state house. Just remember some of them that go on to the U.S. senate and congress. The same ones that love to make the insurance company the only villain in this when they all had the power fix it when they where in their state houses.
Messenger0777 2 years ago
Look - I can appreciate the concept of unintended consequences and certainly any health care reform that goes through will have them.
However, it certainly takes no political courage to just stand there and do nothing and watch it crash and burn. Those who don't see the need for reform of some sort (conservative or liberal) are certainly not paying attention.
Similar systems (having both public and private insurance options) have been tested in other countries - and we can learn from that.
sinmantyx 2 years ago
In my state, under/unemployed with children get on a HMO paid by the state- run by a private insurance company. I was a single father of 3, lost a job used it. It was no better/worse then the HMO I was co paying 25 a week working. Alone with no income you have to apply to a fed paid & regulated handled by the state insurance program every 6 months. You need over $1000 of medical bills before you get free drugs & go thru spend down cycles. You have NO more then $1000 in pension stock or bank.
Messenger0777 2 years ago
cont- The more people the state put on the HMO plan insurance comp. gave the state discounts on cost.
Messenger0777 2 years ago 2
When you make an argument make sure it is a logical one
ilayasaravanan 2 years ago
I'm trying to get on a stupid federal funded and regulated insurance program that they make the state give single uninsured where you can't have more then $1000 in stocks, pensions or bank. I have a 401k with only 400 in it from a job I had 15 years ago in a group policy that changed so many hands. I stopped getting statements and couldn't prove what the value of it is now, tho the gov has a copy of it 2 years ago. My case worker refuses to cover me until I get a current copy.
Messenger0777 2 years ago 2
Cont-
I have an ulcer/open wound under my foot that had gotten infected after a trip to the emergency room I walked out with a $2000 bill and orders from the doc to go to an open wound center. But they only see you if insured or have $3000. I run the risk of it getting infected again and amputation. You think that bureaucratic worker cared? Hell no. No money added to that 401k if anything lost money in it, Dont tell me gov bureaucrats wont come between you and a doctor. It's happening to me
Messenger0777 2 years ago 2
no, there's a cash register between you and your doctor.
Aussiemoo 2 years ago
So what exactly is your point? That somehow the insurance companies care more about you than the govt?
The insurance companies have one motive and that is to make PROFIT. You can check the statistics on how much profit insurance organizations make every year.
If is was up to the insurance companies, they will try every which way to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions, cancel coverage when they think its getting too expensive etc.

TrueBloodTypeA 2 years ago
The congressman's response was appropriate and commendable. The usual misinformed talking points conservatives drag in repeatedly to these discussions add nothing new to the debate and are only intended to mislead. There are many more underinsured than uninsured, so the potential benefit to the population at larger is greater than conservatives would have you believe.
metropolitical 2 years ago 2

Eldest8a 2 years ago
The public option would cost everyone .. it is not being set on a level playing field with private insurance. Through force of government health care providers will have to provide better rates to the government option and then tax dollars will be used to further subsidize it. Very similair to how Medicare works.
travisalger 2 years ago
Then out of desperation to make money the health insurance companies will lower their rates instead of robbing people blind like they have been.
millgiass 2 years ago
doesn't work that way. prices will go up until the only viable option will be the government program. Private insurance will go out of business or be merged into government control.

Expessially since Obama has called for violence against
Americans opposing him.

Hhahahaha...Wow Rick Larsen is my new hero.

People -> Preamble -> Constitution -> Congress-> UNITED STATES;

I am glad to see that not only crazy ignorant Glenn Beck fans are attending these town halls.
lamouchemorte 2 years ago
Umm, it is everyone's America, and if you want to be ignorant, there is a reason why we still have disadvantaged(minorities) people in this country. They are slaves to big government and welfare. There have been countless programs to advance people in this country. It is no ones fault but their own if they can not get an education and a job in this country. The only reason race should be in this discussion is because politicians pander to minorities for votes.Worst thing for minorities is welfare
Zoklor 2 years ago
You say, "It is no one's fault but their own" because you don't want to admit that there are people who do have disadvantages over everyone else. It's hard for some people to be empathetic, because you want ppl to be able to succeed But I do believe they need the welfare. If you have a bad family life it's hard to get up and go to McDonald's and work 10 hours and come home to a drunken parent. It doesn't really boost your spirits. Although I do understand some aspects of what you are saying.

Liberals vs Conservatives, GOPers vs Dems, it has been that way. And will always be that way and the result is, nobody is ever satisifed. Nobody!

I'll say it till I'm "blue in the face". You, Mr. Larsen, are typical of the smug, double-talking fuck-sticks that pollute Congress.

Republicans have become crazed asswipes. They constantly lie about everything just because they are furious about losing the election so badly.
The crazy became part of the republican mainstream and the republican mainstream went crazy.
GuitarSpeller 2 years ago
How are they crazy because they want to prevent our country from taking on so many social programs. Have you seen some of the DNC ads? They are plain old rude to citizens. I am not republican myself, but you people need to lay off the "They are angry cause they lost" shit. They are angry because the politicians are corrupt. If liberals actually watched Glenn Beck, they would find the huge corruption scheme in our government. Oh, it happens with republicans to, so dont drop the bush line on me.
Zoklor 2 years ago
It's really really sad that you just proved my point. Glen Beck is a racist hate mongering asswipe, and yet you hold him up as a shining example.
When the crazy go republican, the republicans go crazy.

But to be honest I'm not selfish enough to keep my paycheck to only matters that concern me, I have some compassion.
phoisgreat 2 years ago
phoisgreat I deeply appreciate your civility and respect towards your fellow citizens, something that is easily forgotten these times.
Furmilo 2 years ago
Hehe, this isn't really a topic I'd like to debate. Instead of electing them and trusting they vote in our interest maybe have a form we fill out. Something along those lines, we still get some say by electing them. So instead of tax dollars going to just what one representative offers which isn't everything you want to fund, you can choose to send it to other specified areas. I mean, that's something I think is more fair but you are right about that one aspect of why we elect them.
phoisgreat 2 years ago
