Haha, I just uploaded mine. I was still in high school then. This was around 1991 or 1992. However, your audio is much better and your mother is a hoot.
I have one of these vhs recordings that my Grandparents did. They weren't the best of actors, but it still was interesting to watch them. Thanks for posting yours.
I loved how when my mother played the Captain when we did this, she flubbed the line and said "not while i'm holding this Photon Torpedo" I had to hold my laughter.
that is too cool wow wish they still had that or something similar...hmm maybe we should all let Universal know we want it back...or an updated version :)
I remember doing this with my family probably around the same time that sonofmohg did his. My sister and I were sitting up in front and were told to drive the ship, well my sister was pretending that she had a steering wheel, u can see it in the video, it's some funny stuff. Good times.
I was at Universal in Orlando in July of 1991 and almost walked right past it! God, I was so thrilled to do that! I think you guys did a great job, mine was pretty wooden. I will have to post mine soon, I'll let ya know!
how did you convert this from vhs to on your computer? i have one of these too with my family. it was fun! oh my god - fun. i was 10 years old and i thought the director was so hot.
You will need to get a VHS to DVD Convertor for your computer, they sell them usually at department stores or you can find a professional. I do this stuff all the time :)
I saw this too at Universal during the mid 90s. I wanted to do this but didnt. It had two you could do, ST & your day at Universal. ST was the best one. I remember standing there watching all the people as they came out after doing it & laughing at themselves. I laughed too. Some were hilarious. Some smiled during the turbulence scene. Its hard if you arent an actor to not laugh when you get tickled. I remember a young girl as the captn with her boyfriend as spock & they smiled a lot during it
I did this as well when I was about ten years old. My dad was the Captain, I was the Vulcan, and my younger brother played some third role. He got to say Sulu's line about thinking that Kirk was at Federation headquarters.
You know, for 20 years ago, this wasn't bad at all. In fact my brother did it when we were at Universal (and the dumbass dork didn't even save the video).
0-MY-GOD in like 92' my family did this, it was like five of us so only two of us had talking rolls, i was like 5yrs old so u just see me standing there, my mom was the captain and my older brother was the vulcan...my dad and sister and me just chilled in the background, watching it was soooooo freaking hilarious and this just brought back those painful yet hysterical memories haha...wow and those vulcan ears OMG so freakin ridiculous but also hysterical
Unbelievable!I went to Orlando in april 1994 and I had the same problem: so I forced my husband to play the vulcan! Of course your performance is much better than mine and your mother is great! I'm from Italy, and all people there was laughing watching the preview! I didn't care at all: I've been trekkie since I was eleven!!!
OMG, I used to direct these videos! LOL Dang, I think I may have even been there during this one. I have to admit I'm not sure I recall the guest stars, though. I was amazed that I still remembered the script word for word. Ha! Thanks.
Pretty good preformances, certainly better than mine back in 1991. This was a fun and truly unique experience in terms of visiting a theme park, where most of your time is spent waiting on an endless line. You got to work one-on-one with a "director" and had no idea of what the end result would look like. A total blast. Thanks for posting and if I ever get the proper equipment, I'll post my Star Trek voyage as well.
This was cute. You and your mom did a very good job and I could see you had fun doing it. And, you both were easy to understand. Good job, and it looked like you had fun. Thanks for sharing. :)
this wasn't from 1994... Gene Roddenberry would have been dead for 3 years. This was from the late 80's early 90's. Of course you visited that amusement park thingy and had it cut in in 1994...
this was sooooo sweet. you and your mom are so cute. my mom was a trekie and so was i. we had planned a trip to do this. but then she passed away. thanks for the memory. i like to think my mom would do as well as yours. glad you loosened up and had fun. take care and of course: live long and prosper. q w
When we went to universal studios which was many moons ago. My dad did the one where they used guests to play the parts of all the people (klingons and starship crew), they fought with the klingons then these three people showed them to get on with each other, anyone know of this one?! If someone can tell me how to get VHS onto youtube then I will upload it!!
I worked at Universal during that time. It was fun. So many Star Trekkers came to the park just to do this. You had your choice of this or ride the movies.
I had to stop this halfway through, it's to cheesy! I hope the new film is not set when kirk and Spock meet because star trek for me is about looking forward not backward.
Too bad they don't have this attraction anymore. I would have enjoyed taking part in it. Universal is a pretty good theme park. Unfortunately, beer is sold throughout the park and you can always find some drunk morons roaming through and making noise.
so you got to be captain for a day? were the lines long for this? basically i have a giant WTF for this, because ive never seen or heard of this before. Kind of reminds me of the TNG VHS game. that game is actually quite fun, but i think i would do something stupid or something. I love star trek alot but a lot of things would impact my "performance". plus i would not defame the name of william shatner and james T. kirk with my showing.
I f you're talking about the flinstones ride u are totally wrong. the flinstones ride opened WITH the park. Nothing replaced this attraction except it was turned into a preview for Islands of Adventure. Now the space is used for the Mummy Returns wait line.
That cannot be correct. Universal Studios has been around for forty years, but the Flintstones ride was based on the Flintstones movie of 1994, and did not exist in the 80's. I was there and would have seen. Besides, I went to see the Trek ride one day and it was gone, with FLintstones in the exact same spot as trek was.
The mummy returns is on the lower level, next to Jurassic Park, but the Trek ride was up top next to the Knight Rider car.
Yes, I am talking Hollywood. The Flintstones adventure was in the same building as the Star Trek Adventure, which was the same building as the Movie Adventure which ran in the 70's and early 80's. Its the stage show where they take people from the audience, dress them in costumes, and make a movie with them in about 20 minutes. The subject of the movie changes every ten years or so, but its always in the same building because thats where the video equipment is.
Your locations are wrong. Trek was on top of the escalator, not the bottom where Mummy Returns is. Flintstones did not open with the park, because that stage attraction was in the exact same building trek used to be in when I visited the park on two seperate occasions. Why would they make a Flintstones attraction if the movie only came out in 1994?
Lol what crap. I've seen teh exact screenplay before on the bridges and they are repeats. I've seen them do it with other people before. Notice scotty isn't looking at them in the transporter room.
You are speaking of the show that was at Universal Studios in California I believe. This one was not on a stage, just in a small room with green screen. If you look at the other videos on Youtube you will see that different version.
The script was horrible. I know it was all for fun, but Universal could have put a little more thought into it. Even with perfect acting, the dialogue would still sound inane.
How much did this cost, and how much time did it take to film? The Hollywood Universal Studios version has better script and production values.
I also did this and it was soooo worth it. I went back to Universal later on and was so bummed out it was gone because I had remarried and it's hard for me to play it to friends because my ex wife is in it! I also had her two preteen sons in it so the 4 of us were in it together. I mean it is just so cool that it was available, really professionally done the way Universal did it, I thought. I wonder who the audience would think is the worse Captain!
That was a great video. Just one problem, how could Gene Roddenberry do this if he was dead?Because as far as I know he died in 1991 unless it was a recording thing otherwise great video! :)
WRONG!!!!!Hercules and Xena replaced a Murder She Wrote attraction and the space the attraction was in is currently empty. Terminator 2-3D is in a WHOLE different building across from the Lucille Ball museum

Cool! I worked there too. I think it was around 92-93 if memory serves. My boss was a tall slender woman named Suzie. She was a cutie. :)

I think she was still there when I started. Must have been `94.
